Chanel Ombres Lamées de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Ombres Lamées de Chanel
Chanel Ombres Lamées de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette ($105.00 for 0.49 oz.) is undeniably more intricate and stunning upon arrival than most powders, but the question is whether the product–once the overspray is removed–actually lives up to the three digit price tag. There are six narrow strips with different designs, but there are actually only three unique shades. I wish the colors were contained with two strips in a row, rather than alternating, because it would make each area about a third of the pan and totally usable with a brush. It doesn’t work as well as average-sized eye brushes and is one better suited for detail brushes or if you don’t mind mixing shades.
The good news is that it was wearable and resulted in a decent look, but I don’t think the eyeshadows are particularly amazing (and they are, at least, dupable). They could be more pigmented and less dusty. The upside is that the palette itself contained a massive amount of product, so at least they didn’t skimp on that! The included brushes are decent, though I think they are still too large (especially the rounded crease brush) for using the shades individually. (They are better quality than the normal applicators that come in Chanel’s palettes, so that is likely part of the “justification” of the price tag.)
It’s supposed to launch exclusively on the 28th, but there is early access through Chanel Ombres Lamées de Chanel Eyeshadow Palettethis link.

Ombres Lamées de Chanel #1
Ombres Lamées de Chanel #1 is a muted, medium golden brown with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a drier, slightly dusty texture that was a little messy to use on the lid. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Ombres Lamées de Chanel #2
Ombres Lamées de Chanel #2 is a deep brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The color payoff was good, but it was hard to maintain the color’s true depth, as it often was lightened by the neighboring shade. The powder felt a little drier and firmer in the pan, though it wasn’t difficult to blend out on the lid. It wore well for seven hours before fading on me.

Ombres Lamées de Chanel #3
Ombres Lamées de Chanel #3 is a medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had a drier, looser consistency; it seemed like the shimmer pulled away from the base color, which gave it a more uneven texture and amount of coverage on the lid (and primer did not fix that). The pigmentation was semi-opaque and buildable. This shade started to fade after six hours on me.

That is one gorgeous palette to look at! I would never be able use it, even if I loved the shades.
It is a pretty one to look at!
Money saved. Too complicated to use at least for me, dupable, costly.
Pretty much! I think this one is best suited for a collector (and I understand that not everyone collects or believes in collecting makeup).
This is such a gorgeous-looking product. I can see collectors of Chanel makeup wanting to just own it and gaze at it, keeping it in pristine condition in their collection. It doesn’t appeal to me as an eyeshadow palette that I’d want to actually use, however!
It’s pretty much the epitome of collector’s item to me!
Thank you for saving me, Christine. This is beautiful in the package, but did not appear to be practical for application and usage, and thanks to you, I can be happy without it.
My pleasure, Nell!
I’m really surprised it only has 3 workable shades under the overspray. At this price point, I definitely decide to look at it from a collectors standpoint. I have handful of things that sit on a shelf as decorations around my makeup area. This MAY be worthy of joining them. But, I need to see it in person for sure. Not something I’m going to run out to get right away though.
It’s definitely a collector’s item to me!
They did say three shades on the site, so it wasn’t a surprise, but I do wish they were right next to each other (e.g. six strips with overspray, but then three large strips underneath).
The embossing is stunning, so intricate and realistic ! If I had money to throw around, I would buy one just to look at it, a museum piece.
It does seem like that type of product (so definitely not for everyone)!
That is one gorgeous design! It’s too bad the quality is so blah!
It could have been better for sure!
My best guess, this one was only really meant to be a collector’s item to look at, but never use? As such, and considering that the 3 actual eyeshadow shades are fairly basic and easily dupable, it’s an easy pass for me!
I imagine that was definitely part of it!
I couldn’t resist this and it’s beyond gorgeous in person with all the intricate details and 3D embossing. I had every intention of using it as I’m not so much of a collector as to never touch a product, but, wow, this is so stunning in the package that I’m having trouble making myself dig in. I’ve been hesitant in the past with a handful of products, but this one is taking the cake.
If you’re a collector, this is exceptionally beautiful. But, it seems like the palette in action is not quite as exceptional. Either way, thank you for the detailed review. For anyone who goes directly through chanel.com to order, I used the code GOLDEN and received complimentary overnight shipping. And, everything was packed beautifully in a Chanel Box with pink holiday ribbon, a black wax seal on the tissue, a pouch with samples, etc. I don’t think anyone does packaging and presentation better than Chanel. Thanks again, Christine!
Hopefully, you enjoy it when you do get the chance to try it!
Chanel’s does great shipping/packaging for direct – they actually have some of the best in the business.
Immediately I said ‘yes’! Pretty to look at but not wear. $105? Nooooo.
It is pricey!
Just the looks of this one turned me off. I don’t think it is pretty at all.
Easy skip then! 🙂
All that frosting and overspray for three, very dupable, quite average shades? I think this is a rip off.
The upside is that there is a ton of eyeshadow in there!
Pretty but not for me!
Gotcha!
Lovely to look at, but quite easy to say no to. I totally get that many will buy it to keep and never use. I’m not a collector like that, I use everything I’ve got.
Same, Helene! 🙂
Beautiful-and absolutely a collectors dream piece!
True!
Like a few others, makeup for me is not a collector’s item, as much as it pains me sometimes to finish up an LE product. If I want to “collect”, I buy art or pottery; makeup is, well, makeup. It would be like collecting toothpaste! But this is an really pricey palette and the price doesn’t reflect the fairly average rating and “ordinary-ness” of the colours, however pretty the presentation. Easy pass for me – I’d rather spend the $105 on several unique products or those I’ve been craving for a while.
Beautiful to look at, for sure, but I’d rather spend my money on something that’s also beautiful to wear. It’s a really lovely collector’s item, though 🙂
While I do “collect” from some brands/launches – I do actually use my collector products. Not sure I’d be able to touch this one. Which is why I’m probably not going to get it…though it is so beautiful…
