Chanel Gris Exquis Ombre Essentielle / Soft Touch Eyeshadow
Chanel Gris Exquis Ombre Essentielle / Soft Touch Eyeshadow ($28.50 for 0.07 oz.) is a limited edition single eyeshadow described as “an elegant dove grey.” The Soft Touch formula is finely milled and can be applied wet or dry. Gris Exquis has a soft, silky feel against the skin, and the softness enables it to apply smoothly and blend out easily. It’s a satiny medium-dark gray–it doesn’t lean blue or brown. I like how it doesn’t venture into charcoal territory, but it’s also not too light that it starts looking silvery. theBalm’s Inspirational looks more gunmetal-like and has a more metallic finish. Inglot #339 comes the closest but almost looks a bit purpled around the edges in comparison.
It’s packaged in a shiny black plastic that is rectangular in shape and comes with a black sponge-tipped applicator.  Inside the compact, the upper half also has a compact-sized mirror.  I do find the overall size of the compact larger than necessary to house the eyeshadow–there is still a good amount of excess on the sides of the sponge-tipped applicator (which is wider than the eyeshadow pan).  You get a good amount given it is a single, but you’ll likely want to love the color before plunking down $28.50 for it.

Why does this have to be Channel ??? Ugh I wish I could justify an almost 30 dollar eye shadow… :((((( It really is gorgeous though…
That’s a really beautiful shade of gray!
This would be perfect for a dark smokey eye.
A very classy color by Chanel…with no glitter, shimmer….just a very basic color…..funny now that I see more of their products to be MADE IN FRANCE like it should be. It is a French couture name after all….The cost is indicative of buying this brand. Wish it would go back doing duos again….Funny Cleu de Peau costs more than this.
$28.50 may seem like a lot of money, but you’re getting around 2 grams of product. If you’re a fan of Chanel & plan on using Gris Exquis a couple of times a week, then this eyeshadow would be great for you.
However, the color is not unique enough to me and I rarely wear greys. So, I won’t be getting it.
Lovely color! Now this is something I would buy, even though it’s not super unique, is classic and can be used in several looks. If I’m going to pay this much for an eyeshadow, must be something I can use a lot otherwise it’s a waste of money.
your deffinatley right about the size of the compact. thats way to bulky for just one shadow, i dont have the kind of room to store that lol
I don’t think grey looks that good on me. It also has a bit of blue in it, well at least that’s what I see on my monitor, and blue looks awful on me!
Hi, Christine! Do you think it is similar to MAC’s Scene? Thanks!
Not as blue!
I have it and it’s beautiful.
This would be so lovely as an eyeliner for pale skin!
CHRISTINE — Is this truly a matte, or is there some shimmer? Thanks!
No, it’s not matte – I don’t think I said it was – it has a satiny finish, so there is subtle shimmer-sheen.
Holy feck that compact is huge – it looks as big as the one for the blush, how overkill!
It’s a pretty shade of gray, but still a pass for me.
Hey Christine, what would you pair with this? I’m considering getting it, but only if I find it would be versatile. I love neutrals in case that helps.
Thanks! 🙂
Beige! 🙂
pretty ! but ack, I cannot stand how pricey the makeup is.
WOW. If there were an eyeshadow I’d spend this much on, it would be this one. The colour is so incredibly pigmented and a really true grey. Great job on describing the colour, Christine.
I SO badly wish they would make this permanent! I’m on a no-buy at the moment, but if this was a part of the permanent line I’d wear it every. single. day.

Or at least most days per week! XD
