Chanel Grandeur (56) Ombre Premiere Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($36.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a rich, deeper gold with strong, warm orange undertones and a pearly sheen. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The texture felt smooth, silky, and cream-like; it felt like a 40-60 cream-powder mix by touch but it blended out with the ease of a powder and melted onto my skin like a cream. It wore well for eight hours on me before creasing faintly.

The formula is described as a “richly-pigmented” and “longwearing.” There are 16 shades available, and I’ve tried eight of them and have found that most are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage with soft, blendable textures that are often on the dustier side. Some shades were prone to sheering out on the lid and applied best by layering and building up the color than trying to pack it on. They lasted between six and seven and a half hours on me, which was below average. I think Chanel’s formula in their quads is better overall, as they are not as dusty but still are blendable.

Chanel Pourpre Brun (58) Ombre Premiere Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($36.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges for a diffused look but didn’t lose its intensity. The texture felt like a cream-powder hybrid (but more powder than cream), dense and smooth, but not too thick nor so emollient that it was hard to work with. This shade stayed on nicely for eight hours on me before creasing slightly.

Pourpre Bring is simply gorgeous and so rich looking! I could totally see using this very smoked out as a one n’ done shadow.
Grandeur is nice, but a bit too duped in my stash. It is a lovely one nonetheless!
If it’s a gold, I have 20 dupes in my Pat McGrath stash lol
Patiently waiting for the quad review, to decide whether or not to return it. If it gets B+ or better I’ll just keep trying to make it work. Maybe it was the primer, but it creased terribly in 2 hours and I couldn’t build up the saturation to pan level.
If you have it and don’t like it, you should return it! I don’t think a review from me should matter since you already have it and have experienced it!
Mothership V is a great example. 2 of the shades were crumbly and difficult to use. You had rated it too notch and generally people raves about it. I wanted to make it work and at the end of the day, realized it was maybe a bad batch.
Same here. It could be me or it could be the palette. If it rates well, I will keep playing with it. If I can’t get it to work then I know it’s a bad batch and back it goes. If it doesn’t rate well then it goes back immediately.
I hate returning things just because they didn’t work the first time..
Curious how others do their returns decisions…
My approach changes sometimes with the value. If it is a higher end product and I cannot seemingly make it work, I don’t care about the reviews, I send it back. That said, sometimes if something is entirely unique to my stash, I might be more forgiving of its limitations for me personally and try to find something that will make it work. In the end though, do we really tend to reach for those ‘difficult’ products. I know I don’t.
Wednesday – that’s true. I can usually make something work if I play enough with it. But will I keep reaching for it when I have 10 other things on my vanity competing for my attention.. having said that, sometimes it takes me a while to adjust to a new formula. In this case, I hadn’t played with Chanel in years and forgot that for some brands, primer makes the shadow worse somehow. They are meant to go on bare skin. Or vice versa – you need a certain primer and then va va voom. It’s always cool to figure that out.
I’m going to play with the Chanel quad some more, as it just got a star rating. My creasing issues are probably from the primer ..
I have to be honest and say, I don’t return much. Like maybe once in the past year and that was a broken palette. I have to buy most stuff on line and I just don’t like the headache of mailing it back. If I am going to be somewhere that I can return it in person, then that is my preference. That was what I did with the broken palette. So, while I sometimes don’t love what I purchased I will either make it work, give it away or donate it.
Yea that’s mostly how I shop these days, even though I live within walking distance of 6 Sephora stores alone (in midtown Manhattan), it’s just such a hassle dealing with people and lines and such. I’m spoiled. The box shows up at my door, zero hassle. But I probably spend 25% more than I would otherwise, given how much stuff doesn’t work or gets relegated to the back of my drawers for whatever reason..
Pourpre Brun is calling me. I have similar shades, typically cooler and more shimmery. I think this is a fantastic outer vee/lower lash shade for hazel/green eyes.

Both of them look amazing but I could manage without another (beautiful) gold and I have the MUFE dupe for the plum so I’ll pass.

Both shades are heavenly, particularly if worn together…but I think there are more dupes than days of the year for Grandeur….
Pourpre Brun is gorgeous. This is a colour I’m only slowing getting into and getting used to but this is such a stunning and flattering iteration of it. Fortunately, I’ve got 2 dupes (I’d probably have bought it if the Chanel counter near me hadn’t closed down entirely).
