Chanel Frivole Joues Contraste / Blush ($43.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “luminous apricot.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark orange with just a hint of pink to give it an “apricot” coloring. The finish is mostly matte, but there is a touch of barely-there sheen that translates as “natural” when applied–you can see the tiny golden sheen in the blended out swatch. Buxom Euphoria is lighter and more orange. MAC Modern Mandarin is redder, less orange, more shimmery. NARS Gilda is redder. Guerlain Peach Boy is redder, less orange. MAC Optimistic Orange is a touch more orange (and it is a cream blush). Make Up For Ever is a touch darker and more red-toned.

It is as intense as you’d like it to be; it can be as rich and bright as it looks in the pan, or it can be blended and applied more sheerly for a softer color. Darker complexions should have no trouble getting enough color to show up on them, while paler complexions can rest easy knowing that it has an exquisite, finely-milled texture that makes blending a cinch. The powder is so, so soft but not powdery. It looks luminous and subtly glowy on the skin without emphasizing pores. Frivole wore for seven hours well, and after eight, there was very slight fading along the edges.

It is pretty and would probably look nice on me. However, I already have blushes that fill the apricot/peachy void. So, I’m going to have to pass. I see you are wearing colors from the quad from this Chanel line. I hope you review it soon. I’m really excited about it and think it just might be my first purchase from a luxury brand.

That color doesn’t really say Spring to me. I have NARS Gilda and I don’t give it enough love as is. This is like fluorescent orange, not my thing, so I can pass easily.

hi!! i’m pale and i loved chanel’s fandago blush. everyone and i mean everyone said no about wearing it. always try before you buy and go out in different lighting to check wearability. why do i have a feeling that the sales associate is going to push their $65 brush to use with this blush? thankyou for the wonderful reviews and happy holidays to you!! xo. p.s.

You can definitely rock this blush even if you’re pale! Some find that orange blush + pink undertones = red, ruddy cheeks, so that is the potential concern with this, since it is orange and has a slightly reddish base!

Happy holidays, Wendala!

This blush looks beautiful on you 🙂 I don’t have any apricot-shade blush yet and I should definitely get one. I read another reviewer stated that this blush is similar to NARS Gina. What do you think? Your old swatches of NARS Gina look similar to Chanel’s. Which of them pull less red on the cheeks? I’m very torn in making my decision on which of the two I should get.

I just bought this two days ago; it shows up more as a light salmon on my NC40 skin. The texture is heavenly, though, and matte, which is a huge plus when it comes to these types of colors. If you’re around the same skin tone, try it out at the counter. You could be pleasantly surprised. Now to get the highlighter…

I owe you a HUGE thank you Christine! I wanted this even though I have Tarte’s Tipsy in the blush and cheek stain. However, when you mentioned MAC Optimistic Orange in your review, I remembered that I have that too! Now I can skip this and not look back. Now I can set my pennies aside for something else. 🙂

I’ve just noticed your skin depth appears to have changed, Christine, I’m guessing because it’s winter? Do you notice some shades suit you better in summer or winter, ie when you’re darker or paler?

*raises eyebrow* That is not quite the color that comes to mind when I think “apricot,” but we’ll let it slide, Chanel.

This is way, way too warm for me, but it really is a gorgeous orange. Not too neon, not too red, just perfect for warmer skin tones. I think people with medium to medium-dark skin tones in particular would look amazing in this. 😀

I have MAC ‘Melba’, which I really like, but I still wanna get another favorite blush, do you think Chanel Frivole is very similar to MAC Melba? If not, then how different they are? Thanks, love xx
