Chanel Azure (657) Le Vernis Nail Colour Review, Photos, Swatches

Chanel Azure (657) Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “metallic blue green.” It’s a brightened, bluish-teal with a metallic finish. It seems to shift a bit from blue to teal to green, depending on the angle and how the light hits the color. The color itself is interesting and complex. I’ll be reviewing it soon, but Dior’s Samba isn’t an exact dupe for this–it is more of a true teal with less shift and more warmth. China Glaze Deviantly Daring is similar when Azure is in its blue stages, but it doesn’t have the same green-teal shift. Zoya Charla has a very different finish (more glitter/sparkle) and is a darker, bluer polish overall.

It’s fully opaque in two coats, and the drying time is about average, but it’s important to wait for each coat to dry before applying another as it will pull/drag if not fully dry. There are also a lot of noticeable brush strokes to the finish, even after it has dried down (sometimes they fade and blend away once the polish is dry, but not in this case). I wish this was slightly less metallic or wasn’t as prone to showing the brush strokes, because I think it takes away from the application and end result. The consistency was slightly thin but was fine to work with. I typically get a week of wear out of Chanel’s formula with minor tip wear but no chipping.

I played with this in the store and was disappointed. I thought it looked more interesting in the bottle than on the nail. I walked away with Taboo instead and am very happy with my decision.

This is really interesting, I had no brush strokes with this one, to the point that I was wondering how they did it so metallic and without strokes… Your post got me wondering, I will go and apply again more critically.

Sinful Colors has a dupe for this called Gorgeous. Its $1.99, and the quality is relatively okay, but workable. Really pretty on a summery manicure

Rebecca Avatar

Gorgeous is not a dupe. It has almost no duo chrome and the base is much greener. Also it lacks the micro shimmer of Azure

I bought this and while the color is interesting and does some shade shifting, the brush strokes are noticeable. I also have some chipping despite using chip skip, Essie base coat and Seche Vite top coat. For spending $27 I’m really disappointed. I would give it a C-.

Chanel polishes do NOT like Seche Vite. I’ve had good luck with Poshe for quick dry and Zoya’s Armor for non-quick dry.

Try one of those instead and you might have better luck with the chipping 🙂

Totally agree! I also found that many base coats aren’t compatible with Chanel, if I’m in a pinch I use Essie “Ballet Slippers” or”Mademoiselle” as a base to fill ridges a bit before slapping on 2 coats of chanel. Sounds crazy but it works for me. I’ve tried the Dior Gel Top coat over the Chanels and it works great. I wanted to love Azure but I loved Taboo more so I got that instead:)

I wore this last week, and I loved it. I don’t mind the streaks because it’s just the nature of metallic polishes. I just love metallic polishes though.

This only lasted 2-3 days on me.

I have both and swatched them side by side. Mermaid to Order is more green and has a finish that is more flat. It also lacks the strong duochrome effect that Azure has.

Really Azure is everything I was wanting Mermaid to Order to be.

It’s so odd that your experience with this is so different from mine! This is MY FAVORITE nail polish at the moment. I didn’t experience any brush strokes at all and the application was seamless. The color is so eye catching. I always stare at my nails now 🙂

This is an almost complete dupe of Sephora by OPI “Mermaid to Order,” except even that has fewer brush strokes, a longer wear time, and more of that blue/teal shift for me. Plus, it’s a LOT cheaper ($9.50).

Oh Chanel and the gorgeous duochrome polishes they come out with 🙂 , I really love this but since I only paint my toes I don´t know if I want to pay the price for this polish. Ihave only one Chanel polish, will have to swatch this one on store.

I bought this and i can’t wait to try it . I absolutely love this color and cannot wait to wear it with turquoise jewelry !

I agree with Lauren, metallic holographic nail polishes may look like it has brush strokes/lines when dried due to light and metallic duochrome formula. I did not experience any pulling/dragging or brush strokes for that matter. It dries extremely fast with each coat. I even tested with and without Illamasqua base coat , both applications were fantastic. Gorgeous color and formula :).

I splurged with the Lord and Taylor coupon this week, this is so gorgeous on my hand. No brush marks but that might be because I had a manicure, and didn’t do my own nails this time.
it flashes blue to green when you look at it.

Love it
I have the blue on my toes.
BTW has anybody seen the e/s quad that is part of this collection?

For somebody like me who loves blue, but hates blue (or cold coloured) polishes, this was an immediate pass. And not even because of the brush strokes, because it looks like regular Chanel metallic nail polish quality (aka pretty good). Just to be thorough I swatched this in store (along with the other 2 polishes) and it was easy to apply, quick to dry (I applied 2 coats almost immediately) and a total deal breaker. This might actually be my first not pink, red or gold nail polish! *gasp*
