Dior Samba Summer Nail Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Dior Samba Summer Nail Duo
Dior Samba Summer Nail Duo ($29.00 2 x 0.23 fl. oz.) contains two miniature-sized polishes from Dior’s summer collection, Bird of Paradise. They look just like Dior’s full-size polishes in exterior packaging, but they have a regular brush (compared to their wider, more tapered brush) that is wider than a normal brush, but it is not tapered.
Samba (794) is described as a “metallic peacock green.” It’s a bold, shimmering green-teal with an almost warm tone (from the green) and has a metallic finish. It was fully opaque in two coats, and while there were visible brush strokes, they were subtler and less distracting from the color/finish–they were also more easily controlled (so they look straight, rather than wonky). The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin. Chanel Azure is darker, more of a duochrome, and ultimately, looks bluer and not nearly as bright as this. I think that you might prefer one over the other, but they’re not dupes. China Glaze Deviantly Daring is much bluer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Teal or No Teal is bluer. ORLY Haley’s Comet is more glittery, darker.
Samba (402) is described as a “cool turquoise.” It’s a darkened mint green cream. It was opaque for the most part after two coats, but the polish was somewhat streaky in places, so there were some patches that did not look quite opaque. Essie Turuquoise & Caicos is darker, less warm-toned. It reminded me a lot of Illamasqua Nomad. China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint is lighter. Essie First Timer is also similar–slightly greener.
For two Dior polishes, it’s almost a deal. Normally, Dior’s polishes retail $23 for 0.33 fl. oz., which is $69.70/oz., while this kit is $63.04/oz., as you get 0.46 fl. oz. for $29. If you have larger hands or longer fingers, you might find the smaller bottles harder to hold and use.

For some reason, I never liked any kind of green nail polish on my nails, with the exception of khaki…
Oooh, wow, gorgeous! Even though there are a million similar shades these are really pretty. Tempting!
Those two colors are beautiful.
I was surprised at just how small the bottles are, but the colors are sooo pretty and the brushes seem to be full-size. The colors are perfect for spring/summer and I really like that you can wear one on your fingers and the other on your toes and they’ll look great together.
They’re very pretty, but visible brush strokes on one and patchy coverage on another is disappointing. I’d expect Dior to do so much better! If these polishes have those issues on your flawless nails, then on mine they would get even more wonky…
I just bought this on Saturday! I love both shades. It’s amazing how similar the blue polish is to Chanel Azure! It’s definitely a deal for Dior polishes and I can see myself wearing the colours year round.
I didn’t think I would be as interested in these colors as I am. They are both very pretty. I’m still waiting on my Zoya order that I did for the Earth Day special and I promised myself not to buy any polishes until it arrived. So far it’s been hard, I’m sure my order will arrive in a timely fashion but having to keep myself in check for all this time is making it seem like forever.
Polishes like Samba and the Chanel you just review remind me of wet n’ wild polishes that were popular (at least they were popular where I lived) when I was a little kid in the 90s. Sometimes I can go for that 90s look, but I still haven’t come around to these frosty turquoises.
These are so pretty, but I really prefer the second color.
Beautiful but not worth paying $29 for..jeez.
Samba is BEAUTIFUL!
Ugh…Want so bad! I wish I could find the first one in a Soak-off Gel Formula. It’s the only thing that works for me. 🙁
Pretty colors, but one seems extremely streaky, the other has minimal patches… I guess its easier to find cheaper dupes this time…
Revlon has a color similar to 794 but darker. It’s called tropical teal. I bought it two years ago.
I swatched the creme color of Samba side by side to Illamasqua Nomad, they are very different (nomad is brighter and lighter). You are right though, it reminded me of this polish too once I have seen it. 🙂
Oh and for the ones in Europe, P2 polish lost in paradise is almost an exact dupe of the metallic shade.
Has anyone have staining with the metallic shade. Mine didn’t want to leave my nails and fingers while removing.
Love these. The sparkly side reminds me a lot of OPI Yodel Me On My Cell, which I have and love but I so rarely wear polish on my nails that I think one shade like this is more than enough for me.
the top nail polish looks just like OPI for Sephora’s Mermaid to Order
These are ridiculously pretty despite issues and I may have to break down and grab this duo..especially 794.
Thanks for the dupe.. I’ll check it out.
Christine, do you think Illamasqua Nomad is much more vivid? Thank you for the great review. I’ll definitely take a look at these.
Somewhat brighter but not leaps and bounds!
I see more than one poster expressing desire for this and lamenting the price, so here are some drugstore dupes I know of that Christine hasn’t already listed. Beware the nail nerdiness.
Sinful Colors Nail polish in #293 “Gorgeous” is a close, if not exact duplicate of the (794) in this duo, and it’s in the $1.99 – $5 range (I don’t remember what I got it for). Revlon Nail Enamel in 320 “Ocean Breeze” is close too, but seems to leave a little less of a metallic impression and is scented (do not sniff it in the bottle! LOL). Milani Nail Lacquer in 09A “Key West” is greener. Fortunately it’s a really common color.
As for (402). OPI “Mermaid Tears” is a little bit lighter, and duller and bluer, but close. Julep “Denver” is close too, but I wouldn’t really call it a cheap alternative, just “cheaper.”
Anyway, hope this is useful.
And what about the shimmer one over the green creme? It could look very cool..
I got this duo last week and of course I had to put the shimmer over the minty green and it really intensifies the peacock green. The peacock by itself looks great too, but layering gave me a rich bold color and not one chip nor peel on my toes.
