Chanel True Blue (57) Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel True Blue (57) Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner
Chanel True Blue (57) Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner ($30.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “turquoise blue.” It’s a light-medium blue with silver and blue sparkle and shimmer. It doesn’t look teal or have any real flash of green to make a turquoise kind of color. This blue eyeliner comparison post features swatches of a lot of shades that compare with this one, most notably YSL #9 (more turquoise), bareMinerals 4AM (more opaque, so it appears bluer), and then Make Up For Ever #7L/Tarina Tarantino Kanzashi/Urban Decay Electric (all brighter blues).
This pencil was a painful, frustrating experience in why high-end doesn’t always equate to better. The consistency of the pencil is very, very dry and stiff. It tugged, pulled, and was incredibly difficult to apply with even, opaque color (and I would have settled for sheer but even). It almost feels like it’s scraping along the lash line. When you swatch an eyeliner on your arm, the amount of pressure you find yourself using is often much more than you would to the lash line (whether lower or upper), and I couldn’t even get it to build up well in a swatch. I should know better than to buy this, given how disappointed I was with Or Rose in December–but I am a SUCKER! for blues and teals in eyeliner form. On the upside, it wears well; doesn’t seem to fade, smudge, or budge from where it gets applied–it just never, ever looks even, smooth. It always looks jagged and dry.

What a shame that it’s so dreadful because the pencil itself (the product in the pencil) looks absolutely stunning. And you are right that high price is never a guarantee of high quality; I think most of your readers (if not all) have experienced this. I don’t like it when any product doesn’t “deliver the goods”, high end or low, but when it’s a high end company, I think most of us do expect the price to be reflected in the quality of the product and sadly that is not always the case.
I know Chanel’s formula is no where near UD liners but… have you tried warming it up a bit (at the back of your hand by friction) before application. I found that it helped. Also after it is used for sometime, it starts applying better. Of course none of those should be a concern at this price point.
I’d need to microwave it or blow dry – because I tried swatching it on my arm to show the swatches, and it barely wanted to move and deposit color.
LOL, I am going to make sure to try this one out before buying it, thanks for info.
I could tell from the pictures this would not perform well. What were Chanel thinking?! It looks like eyeliner you would get at a toy store!
What total garbage unless you are looking for something that doubles as a defense weapon. Ouch!
It’s always baffling when products fail this dismally, especially high end!
I saw the product photo before I saw your verdict and I was thinking: this one is a fail… It even looks painful.
Yikes. I never hear good things about Chanel eyeliners.
I saw this on another blog recently, she said pretty much the same thing. I can’t stand eyeliners that pull, my eyes get irritated really easily
Ouch! There are definitely better options out there. I finally got to order Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy teal eyeliner on Sunday when they were having free shipping on any order. Can wait to try it out myself! I’ve been lemming over it since finding your blog months ago and seeing it.
I hope you loveeeeee it! At least half as much as I do. Then we’ll be good!
I’ve never like the Stylo Yeuxs. They top the list as far as ouch factor. Idk if Chanel wants you to stick them in the microwave first or what but they are way too stiff when used as-is.
That’s what I was wondering (if I should heat it up), because it was so unkind!
you should try it out and report back! :0
I own lost of these sylo’s and the only one I have a probleem with is the or rose. Shame though such a pretty colour.
I am really surprised that you had so many issues! This has been one of the standout products from the launch for me (maybe because I’ve put my skin through the ringer, tugs don’t even register), sad to see it not working!
What a dissapointment, I’m such a sucker for teal eyeliners and shadows as well, especially ones that appear to have a green-blue shift/glitter/reflect in them!! Such a shame 3=
You could have just written “Remember how painful those Beth Ditto shadesticks were? Happened again!”
Ouch… And that for such an expensive eye pencil, that’s painful indeed!
So disappointing! It’s such a shame that the formula isn’t better, because it’s a gorgeous color!
well, seeing a product rated F is always fun in a way 😛
Right? It’s a combination of disappointing and a guilty pleasure, all in one!
It must have been so painful to test it! The tip itself looks already so stiff and dry. Though I guess you could use it to hurt your arch enemy. I’ve had good luck with Chanel Le Stylos in general (I do not own Or Rose though!), because the harder texture works for me, and I don’t find it personally painful, but it seems than when they add sparkles and not just shimmer, they fail miserably.
I have this and I love this color, but yes. Ouch. I tried putting it on with a tiny brush, like a tiny lip liner brush and that was better, but not great and not easy. Still an awful lot of work for a color that is rather dupable from my UD stash. Which is far far easier to use.
Does Chanel let you return a product if you aren’t happy with it?
Yes, you can return products – at least here in the U.S.
Christine i would return it , for that price ! It looks painful and hardley any color is shown what a waste !
it’s unfortunate it’s so stiff cause the swatch is absolutely gorgeous and not a color i see in eyeliners very often. i really like the color, but i’m sure WnW has a way better pencil in that color for 99c. sigh.
Bummer Christine, but don’t give up on all of them. Most of the Stylo Yeux colors have great texture, go on smooth and feel soft. They’re my favorite liners, but the bad colors…are B.A.D. I don’t understand why they release them because it can turn someone off the product altogether.
I liked Grenat, but Or Rose and True Blue made me want to break down in cry (from pain as well as frustration, but frankly, more from the latter… seriously, I get ANGRY! over $$$ products that are awful). What are your faves?
I too love blue eyeliners and I loved the colour the moment I saw it! Too bad it’s so underperforming. You saved me some money Christine! Thank you!
I would return it! They should return products that are less than satisfactory. In fact I remember that happening at the Lord and Taylor I worked at.
Bummer! Christine, I hope you’re returning it!
For $30.00 it should glide like butter. Oh well… Milani ,Urban Decay here I come.
If you like blue eyeliners and Chanel’s eye pencils, I would suggest you try Bleu Exquis from their recent “Jeux de Regards” collection. It’s a beautiful royal blue with shimmer, lighter than Marine. I found it nice and smooth, just like Grenat or Taupe. I recently discovered these eyeliners (my wallet is not happy…) and was about to buy Marine or Mac’s Prussian but I saw the Bleu Exquis and it was love at first sight!
Oh eek–that’s too bad. Such a pretty color too :/
I bought this and it glided on so smoothley and I love it! So weird!
Isn’t it interesting how people have such different experiences with products?
I love this Stylo, especially over the dark blue from the Metamorphose quad. It even worked on my waterline, albeit more sheer than I would prefer. I experienced no tugging at all.
If it doesn’t work for you, perhaps you got a dried-out product? Either way, if it’s not performing well, it should be returned so they know that some of the product had issues.
Wow, $30 for something so useless…that’s tough. Hopefully this review will keep some folks from making the mistake of wasting their cash on such a letdown of a product.
Thanks for the review!
I’m glad I went with the Stylo Eyeshadow in Blue Bay!
This is one of the rare items I’ve seen the photo of and was so in love that I found myself chanting “please be an A, please be an A, please be an A” only to scroll down far enough to see the F. F?! *sigh* But the shot of it pre-swatch was so pretty…. :/ And then the actual swatch is a sad little creature. Bleh.
Thanks for taking one for the team.
Okay. I love glitter. But I’ve decided that if you really want glitter in your eyeliner, you’re best off finding a gel or liquid with the shimmer/glitter particles you want and leave all the glittery eyeliner pencils. The application is worlds different with the other products.
And I see that even if this felt wonderful going on, the pigmentation isn’t there. I don’t know why Chanel would want to put their name on this. :/
This feels like something you would like to gift a frenemy with 🙂 She won’t be able to resist it because its Chanel and then…
