BUXOM Coral Confession Bold Gel Lipstick
BUXOM Coral Confession Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “satin coral pink.” It’s a light-medium coral with warm undertones and a hint of pink and very fine micro-shimmer. It has a little more shine to it than a true satin finish (to me), but it wears down to satin within an hour or so. This shade had good pigmentation with a lightweight consistency that turns creamy as it heats up against the lips (from the bullet). I did have trouble with the color pulling into lip lines somewhat after two and a half hours of wear, but the creaminess of the formula made it so I could press and rub my lips together to even it back out again. It wore well for four and a half hours in total and was lightly hydrating. MAC Modern Wow! (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Snitch (DC, $18.00) is less pigmented (90% similar). Chanel L'Aristrocatica (65) (LE, $45.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Razzledazzler (P, $19.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Bare Peach (23) (P, $57.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Naked Coral (21) (P, $57.00) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). L'Oreal Luminous Coral (P, $9.99) is cooler (90% similar). Estee Lauder Eccentric (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Uno Mas (P, $10.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Guerlain Fancy Kiss (LE, $37.00) is warmer (90% similar). bareMinerals Express Yourself (LE, $20.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). NARS Breaking Free (DC, $28.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC A Sprinkle of Magic (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Smashbox Nude Beach (P, $21.00) is lighter (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Lara (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, less pigmented, cooler (85% similar). MAC Style Surge (P, $25.00) is warmer (85% similar). NARS Brigitte (P, $34.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Nicki's Nude (LE, $19.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Spotlight Me (LE, $19.00) is lighter (85% similar). Bite Beauty Centifolia (LE, $28.00) is brighter, warmer (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
BUXOM Evocative Petal Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “matte deep rose.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark reddish-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had very nearly opaque pigmentation (you can see my lip freckle peeking out just barely!). The consistency was velvety and smooth and did not tug on the lips when applied from the tube. It wore well for six hours and left behind a stain. It was neither drying nor hydrating for me, but it was pretty comfortable to wear for a matte. NARS Pop Life (P, $27.00) is brighter (90% similar). Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). MAC Rozz (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). KVD Beauty Bachelorette (P, $20.00) is cooler (85% similar). BUXOM Graphic Grape Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “satin deep purple.” It’s a medium-dark, berry purple with cooler undertones and a glossy, creamy finish. It had a lot of slip to it, which gave it that glossy look (by no means a satin!), and there was more translucency with this shade compared to the others–it was only semi-opaque. The color lasted for four and a half hours on me, but it did feather along the upper lip line for me, and it tended to slide around a bit, so I felt like you had to take more care that it didn’t slide right off. The formula was hydrating, though! Urban Decay Venom (DC, $18.00) is darker (90% similar). Revlon Sleek Mulberry (013) (P, $9.99) is cooler, less glossy (90% similar). Bite Beauty Supreme (DC, $24.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Brocade (DC, $37.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Guerlain Bee (DC, $58.00) is more muted (90% similar). Sephora Hear Me Roar (08) (P, $13.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). MAC Rebel (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Venom (DC, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter, less glossy (85% similar). YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (DC, $34.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). MAC Plum Bright (LE, $19.00) is more muted (80% similar). Pat McGrath Dark Devotion (P, $40.00) is less shimmery, lighter, less pigmented (80% similar). L'Oreal Gleaming Plum (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA SUMMARY | BUXOM Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is supposed to be a “lightweight” lipstick with “one-stroke color” available in matte and satin finishes that is “moisturizing.” The formula is semi-opaque to opaque with a lightly creamy to velvety consistency–the satins tend to be noticeably softer and creamier, while the mattes are more velvety and denser–with four to six hour wear time. Some shades are hydrating, while others are simply not drying.

I’m intrigued by Evocative Petal. I’m not sure how it would pull on me, probably straight up red. There’s something unique about it’s undertones, though. Like it’s muted but not in a brownish way.
I totally get what you’re saying, Ginny, about it being muted but still red!
Every lip color looks gorgeous on you. I really think Buxom is one of the most underrated brands out there – their stellar lip products don’t get enough attention! Love every gloss and lipstick I’ve tried from them.
They have some great lip products for sure! I wish I could wear more of the glosses, because they are pretty!
I love the color of Grape, but yep, I can see it’s a slippery one, and if I add SPF 15 lipbalm on top, it will probably slide off my lips. Will definitely need a strong lip liner to make this one work. Hmmm, Bobbi Brown Brocade isn’t as purple, but if I put a purplish lipliner underneath, I may be able to dupe this and get a better formula
Definitely second that lip liner trick!
I think I want to get Graphic Grape. I’ve been looking for a purple like that.
It’s a nifty shade!
I like the finish on Evocative Petal. Hopefully, some of the remaining shades will do so well!
I hope so!
Graphic Grape isn’t bad, I don’t mind the opacity but the feathering might be too much. I’m pretty bad about lip lining.
I tend to skip the lip liner, too!
Must have graphic grape?
Let me know if you check it out!
Just wondering if these have that minty tingle that other Buxom lipsticks have? Love the coral on you!
I did not notice any minty tingle!
Wow I love the look of Evocative. Buxom isn’t available in the UK yet, but I hope we get them soon. I’ve wanted to try the Full Bodied Lipsticks for a while too.
I hope they arrive soon!
Gorgeous colours for autumn and I liked the middle one the best.
Yay! 🙂
These actually seem to make your lips look plumper! Which tells me that these are a really nice formula for only $22., not bad! I especially love Evocative Petal, although as I look at it I’m being reminded of MAC La Vie En Rouge, which I have.
Those are very pretty and look comfortable to wear. I have dupes for all three, but I look forward to seeing the other shades in the collection.
Pretty! I do have to say that alliterative names irritate me for some reason, though, lol. I think my dislike started with Clinique’s names for their products, especially their chubby sticks, in the last few years. But at least Buxom’s names aren’t as stupid as Clinique’s “Heftiest Hibiscus,” “Roomiest Rose,” and “Pudgy Peony,” etc. After those, it’s like a Pavlovian response whenever I see alliterative names for cosmetics.
Evocative Petal is a very interesting color! I can’t say I know of any shades quite like it.
I’ve been waiting for you to review these. That purple shade is gorgeous on you
Evocative Petal is calling me..
I really like the look of these. The first two especially. I’m just a sucker for lipstick…!
Love all the colors but I could only pull off the first two. At 66, I tend to stay away from dark colors. I do have a 21 yr old granddaughter who loves the deep colors. May have to get it for her. In addition to age, he complexion is more medium to tan.
I knew I’d love Coral Confession, but wow, Evocative Petal is really pretty too!
Evocative Petal is gorgeous! The shade is perfect, and for a matte, the finish looks natural as opposed to dead/flat. I just might have to check that one out.
