Heat Ray

Bobbi Brown Heat Ray Luxe Eye Shadow ($38.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had good pigmentation both wet and dry, though the dampened application yielded a stronger, foil-like shine and full coverage. The texture was soft, smooth, and not too loose or too firm in the compact, so it was easy to apply to the lid and blend it out. It wore well for eight hours with slight fallout when applied dry and minimal fallout when applied wet.

Formula Overview

$38.00/0.08 oz. - $475.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be "applied dry for instant impact or applied with a damp brush for a liquid metal look" that "glides on and blends easily." The shades that I have tested have had good pigmentation both wet and dry with the dampened application yielding a smoother application and a stronger sheen. They could be used dry, but they adhered exceptionally well to bare skin when applied with a dampened brush. There was some fallout over time (seven to eight hours) when used dry and very minimal fallout over time when applied with a dampened brush.

It's a good formula overall, but the price point seemed skewed, even within the brand's formula (typically, eyeshadows are less expensive compared to the brand's lipsticks, and the Luxe Lip Colors are $37 so these are more expensive). I think if these were around $29, they would be (marginally) easier to justify, but at $38 for a single eyeshadow, that's a real commitment to a single shade.

High Octane

Bobbi Brown High Octane Luxe Eye Shadow ($38.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a sparkling finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation applied dry as well as damp, though the eyeshadow had more of a sheen when applied with a dampened brush. The texture was soft, blendable, and not too loose nor was it too dense or firm in the pot, which made it easy to pickup product with a brush and blend out. It wore well for eight hours with minimal fallout dry and eight and a half hours when applied wet.

Melting Point

Bobbi Brown Melting Point Luxe Eye Shadow ($38.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright, light-medium peachy copper with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had good color payoff both wet and dry with dampened application yielding a deeper, richer color overall that was extremely shiny. The consistency was soft, a smidgen dusty in the pan, but it applied evenly to bare skin (even dry!) and was easy to work with. It wore well for eight hours dry and almost nine hours when applied damp.

Overheated

Bobbi Brown Overheated Luxe Eye Shadow ($38.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a light-medium gold with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. There were faint sparkles but they did not seem to result in tons of fallout, even when I used the eyeshadow dry on the lid. The color payoff was opaque regardless of application method, but the eyeshadow had a stronger, more metallic sheen on the lid when applied with a dampened brush–it actually looked wet. It applied evenly to the lid and blended out nicely. On me, the color wore well for eight and a half hours both ways.

Oh wow! Is this a new formula? I had given up on Bobbi Brown shadows but these look really good. And .08 oz is a lot of shadow, but wish they had given less product and lowered the price, as $38 is really steep!

I love High Octane. I am a sucker for anything in the purple family. Also, the swatch looks gorgeous on your skin. I may have to check it out in person. Keep the reviews coming. And happy holidays to you and yours.

Right?! You could make a nice little personalized nine pan palette and qualify for free shipping, plus have two bucks left over to go toward an empty palette to store them in.

These are all really nice but I think I’ll look for less pricey dupes. I really do not need that much eyeshadow in any one pan and much prefer smaller shadows and a lower price point. It’s my main quibble with MUFE shadows and why I was happy they came out with that Nudes You Need palette a few years back.

Hi Genevieve, I think 10 shades released and include more wearable shades in taupe, grey/green, and gold sparkle. My counter has been out of stock twice and I haven’t taken the time to go back. Oddly, High Octane (purple with blue shift) swatched terribly for me at the counter but is gorgeous when applied. I bet the green shades in this line would look great on you as a shadow and as a liner!

These are pricey and I would not be adverse to purchasing one or two but only if they were really unique colors with good performance. If there were a stunning green I would be willing to fork over the cash. But, other than the lovely purple, High Octane, I am not seeing anything really unique. I am glad they are performing well over all.

The single eyeshadows from past Bobbi Brown holiday collections have been glitter bombs with tons of fallout. What a pleasant surprise this new formula is. I purchased High Octane (on Spring for 20% off Bobbi’s sale price of 20% off). This shade is so versatile and it changes shade depending on the application. Applied dry with MAC’s To Boldly Go pressed pigment on the center of the lid gives it a lighter pink hue. I love wearing it as a liner (wet) and have been experimenting applying it on top of liner shades. I’ll definitely be picking up more when there’s a good discount. Thanks for reviewing, Christine.

I got Melting Point despite having lots of similar colors. I have a MUF shadow, unsure of the number, that I thought was a pretty good dupe. I like these but they are spendy
