Bobbi Brown Denim & Rose Face Palette Review, Photos, Swatches (Fall 2010)
Bobbi Brown Denim & Rose Palette
Bobbi Brown Has the Denim Jeans Blues
Bobbi Brown Denim & Rose Face Palette ($60.00) is new for fall, but it works just as well for the summer, too. It’s available at Nordstrom’s now (at least online), and I suspect we’ll see it roll out to other retailers in the next couple of weeks. It contains four eyeshadows, one blush, two lipsticks, and two lip glosses all housed in a single palette.
- Navajo eyeshadow is a light white-beige with a matte finish. This is part of the permanent collection, but the rest of the shades in the palette are new (and limited, of course).
- Gray Denim eyeshadow is a softened, browned gray with a near matte finish (seems like it has just a little satin in it).
- Pink Granite eyeshadow is a shimmering pinky champagne with soft flecks of peach glitter-shimmer.
- Dark Rinse eyeshadow is a blackened navy blue base with brighter blue shimmer and silver flecks.
- Pink Rose blush is a neutral, matte pink blusher. It’s medium in darkness, and it’s quite wearable for all skin tones, cool or warm. On darker skin tones, it will be a very light flush.
- Cool Rose lipstick is a semi-sheer light neutral pink with white shimmer.
- Indie Rose lipstick is an opaque, darkened red with a plummy feel. It has a creamy finish and slightly glossy look.
- Iced Lilac glitter lip gloss is a sheer confection of white and soft lilac shimmer.
- Hot Rose lip gloss is a semi-sheer, blue-based milky medium pink. It’s definitely a cooler pink, but it should be wearable by both warm and cool skin tones, since it’s on the sheerer side.
I love the packaging — zipped-up, denim-clad palette. It’s fun without being cheesy, functional and still original, and I really think it fits the collection’s theme. I don’t love when palettes combine both cream and powder products, just because powder products have a tendency to get dust outside their borders and into those creams. I did notice that the palette itself is taller than each pan of product, so the pans sit below an edge, which should combat some powder migration.
Dark Rinse is easily my favorite eyeshadow–it’s just so delectably pigmented, it’s hard to resist. It’s a rather smoldering shade of blue, too, and it would make for an excellent smoky eye shade. It could also work well on the lower lash line for a pop of color.
Overall, I think all of the colors in the palette work with each other, which is really important to me when reviewing a palette. Most palettes are designed to be more of a one-stop-shop, so if shades don’t jive well, it’s an issue. The one downside to this product was the lack of included brushes, even if they do tend to be mediocre, because this does have lip products in it, a miniaturized lip brush is helpful for on-the-go touchups. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s something I noticed when going to swatch the products (I typically use included lip brushes to dig out the product to swatch).

- Product: 27/30
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 5/5
Recommendation: I think it’s a solid palette with quality products, and better yet, the products work well together. However, if you’re not a fan of lip products in palette form, this has four (which is nearly half of the products), so you’re better off skipping.

mmmm cant wait till the dark blue e/s bits fall into the hot pink lip product
Great swatches, the blush looks like the one from the mauve palette a couple yrs ago (which was an HG blush for me and I of course accidentally shattered after it was no longer available for purchase). I really like the lip products as well, but would prefer them in full size tube form. I don’t know what to do!
I was dying for this, but the shadows don’t look very pigmented. Indie rose looks absolutely gorgeous though! Do you think these shades are wearable on an NC25?
As usual, you have wonderful posts.
Oh, yes, definitely! I don’t think they lack pigmentation, IMO! Matte shades are always richer when applied (because they are drier), too. I’ll probably be doing a look with this palette in the next couple of days 🙂
The lippies are pretty.
Yay, thank you for the review… Indie rose looks amazing on you. Overall is a nice product. But is it just me or Bobbi has included that Navajo eye shadow in her last 2 or 3 palettes? and the combo Navajo + Gray Denim resembles the Raspberry Pink face palette… although pink granite and dark rinse look tempting!!
Yep, Navajo seems to be a staple. For me, it’s wayyy too chalky for a highlighter, so it kind of sucks. 🙁
I’m surprised at how pigmented the lip colour looks. Tnx for the amazing swatches once again Christine.
Christine, I love your eyes! LOL. Sorry, but I’ve always wished my eyes were light brown or hazel instead of dark brown. Your eye color is so pretty! Not fair. ): Anyway, about the palette: I love the shadows, especially the Dark Rinse and Pink Granite! Oh, the Cool Rose Lip Color is pretty, too!
Just an FYI for Peninsula (CA) ladies – I saw this palette at Nordstrom Hillsdale. Great review as always, Christine! So good – that even as I passed on it last week, I’ll now have to get it! My wallet isn’t very happy…..
Wish I could get the pink sparkly eyeshadow on its own, the rest of the palette is a bit meh. I especially don’t like mattes.
all 4 lip colors look great on you but yeah I’m a bit hesitant of eye shadow fall out in my lip gloss/lipsticks. I might be willing to over look that since I do like every shade in this palette!
Indie Rose looks amazing, and I think that’s the only thing I like about this palette. Okay, the packaging is also lovely 🙂
Looks pretty! I love your eyes in the photos. Can you tell me more about your eye look?
It’s just mascara and Chanel Cassis eyeliner 🙂
OOOh really? I knew it was a good decision to put that Cassis on my preorder list at Nordstrom.
uh….I hope I don’t offend anyone when i say this…but I really dislike palettes that include a lip product in it…I don’t hate them cuz I do have a couple and I do use them it’s just that, I pick out fallout from the lip product grr
Eyeshadows/blushes/highlighers are fine in a palette, but when you throw in a lip product in there…I hate when i get like fragments of blue or black powder in my lip products…I end up not using it even though it’s a nice color or something. If the palette has another flap or something to separate the lip products from the eye/face products then that palette is perfect! (I happen to only have a few…)
FAIL. Why, oh why do they insist on combining gloss and shadow in one palette? Does nobody listen to us? As for the denim, it looks so 1992 to me and would get dirty really quickly too.
I think a lot of people actually don’t mind – I think perhaps the convenience of everything in one palette overrides the annoyance of powder into gloss/cream.
I’m really surprised how much I like this palette! I don’t generally love Bobby Brown (too boring) and at first look this is sorta boring too. But I’ve seen swatches at a few sites, and I have to say, it’s pretty rockin! I do usually have a problem with potted glosses, as they’re hard to reapply if you’re not at home, and in palleted they tend to get grody because of flying powder. But these are just sooooo pretty! Sometimes it’s worth it.
At least if you know about the cross-powderation (like cross-pollination, eh?), you can always try to keep it cleaner, LOL.
You’re amazing Christine. You’ve already fixed swatches! 🙂
is the blush available in the permanent line or is this a limeted edition colour for the palete?
I’m not sure!
CUTE PACKAGING! im totally sold on this.
The colors look awesome and all, but I hate when palettes have eye shadows and lip products together. The lip stuff always gets all dusty and gross.
Wow. This is a beautiful palette, but I hate this packaging. It would be my luck that the zipper would break and then I’d have to go to great lengths to get to the palette. :/
cute packaging and gorgeous colors! I’m sold!
I love the lip color but I hate that they’re too close to the eyeshadows. I don’t mind lipstick and eyeshadow in a single palette, but only if they’re far enough from each other to prevent cross-contamination. And based on the reviews I’ve read, cross-contamination is one of the things they least like about this palette. It sure is nice to have, but it’s too expensive for too many cons. 🙁
I LOVE this and I’m not really sure why… lol. I don’t usually care for BB shadows or palettes in general but the colours are so pretty. Indie Rose looks amazing on you!
i just just purchased this palette, and i have to say it is so pretty! im not normally a fan of blue eye shadow, but i think the blue in this palette is dark enough i can pull it off as a crease color or as a liner. the blush is a very pretty color and seems buildable for sheer to heavier results and the lippies are just as pretty. i really think it’ll work well on all skin tones. i have light skin with pinky undertones, but you can also see by the pics here that it also works for darker skin tones!
