Bobbi Brown 24 Karat Shimmer Brick Review, Photos, Swatches
Bobbi Brown 24 Karat Shimmer Brick
Bobbi Brown 24 Karat Shimmer Brick ($42.00 for 0.40 oz.) is described as “gold pearlescent shimmer” to give the skin a “lit-from-within glow.” It’s a warm, champagne-shimmered gold that’s just a little muted by beige hues, so it’s not a strong, yellow-toned gold, but it is still very warm. The individual shades are shimmering white, golden beige, slightly darker golden beige, pale gold with orange tint, and warm rose–all five shades have a high frost finish. Tarte Angelic is lighter, more of a white gold. theBalm Solid Gold is similar but lighter, less beige, more gold. Chanel Shimmering Tweed is a darker gold. Bobbi Brown Beach is a little darker–a touch of bronze. I don’t have it, but I’m thinking that Bobbi Brown’s Beige Shimmer Brick might compare well with this, too.
Shimmer Bricks are incredibly shimmery highlighters–quite literally, they are compact bricks chocked full of shimmer! If you prefer your highlighters with subtle, barely-there shimmer, this product line is not for you. On the other hand, if you’re all about shimmer, glitz, and glam… Because of the heavy frost content, these do emphasize pores and texture just slightly, but they give off a very beautiful and exceptional glow–it’s the kind of trade-off where you’ll still come out looking absolutely radiant, because the only one who’ll notice the emphasis is you when you have your face four inches away from the mirror.
On my skin tone, 24 Karat is very my-skin-but-better as a highlighter. It adds a little warmth, but it also evens out my coloring a bit. On lighter complexions, I could see it adding more of a bronzy glow–not too bronzy, though–and on darker complexions, a very gilded highlight. If you have a lot of natural pink in your complexion and often find gold turns to orange on you, I fear this might do the same, you may want to try it in person first. As a bonus, Shimmer Bricks can also be used as eyeshadows if desired. When I wore this, it lasted for just over seven hours well; by the eighth hour, it was a little faded in places. The texture was soft and finely-milled; these always feel so much smoother than you’d imagine.

This is gorgeous, but I think the end result is similar enough to my Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Peach Mosaic for me to skip it
haha now I know what you mean about the mismatching eye makeup! at first glance i thoguht it was your eye colors that were different ;p
Christine, do you know how this compares to Laura Mercier Golden Moziac Shimmer Bloc? They look like they might be similar. Thanks for your help.
I don’t think I have that, but I know the textures of two products are similar.
The swatches look really good. Different from what I had expected, really. But I don’t like palettes with mixed colors in it. I like to keep everything nicely separated.
Thanks for the review Christine! Is this at all similar to MAC Whisper of Gilt or NARS Miss Liberty?
Whisper of Gilt would be closer than Miss Liberty — Whisper of Gilt is lighter, more golden; kind of like the first few strips in the brick!
Hi Christine! I often wonder how you can test mismatched cosmetics on your face all day. Do you have a day job or is blogging all you do? Also how do you run errands that way? The makeup always looks gorg but what’s the reaction at work, school (when you were in school), out-and-about?
I work on the blog full-time, and I absolutely will run errands, go out for lunch/dinner/coffee with makeup mismatched. I know why I’m doing it, so I don’t care if others have a problem with it. The reality is most people are well-mannered enough not to ask!
I didn’t realize this was your full-time job. I just assumed you had a day job. I wondered how the heck you fit it all in. You had a different story under “about us” when I first started reading the blog. Good for you for following your dream.
I was a full-time student and I’m lucky enough that by the time I graduated, this was a viable option for me post-grad! 🙂 Thank you!
I would say hard work, determination and talent and not luck got you to where you are today. I often point out your success to my girls as a lesson that if you work hard and want it bad enough, anything is possible.
Thank you, Terri! 🙂
This is awesome. 😉
Just wanted to say that this like is absolute aces:
it’s the kind of trade-off where you’ll still come out looking absolutely radiant, because the only one who’ll notice the emphasis is you when you have your face four inches away from the mirror.
YES. I love that you acknowledged this! We’re usually our own biggest critics.
Looks lovely on you!!!
Not too sure about the frost, but I love that last picture of you! So cute!
Wow! It has the weirdest texture EVER(I dont think its disgusting, but I dont like it), but the effect and its look is very festive. I love shimmer bricks for neck area mostly and a little bit on the face
I don’t do this level of shimmer.. ever. Kudos to those that can
The Bobbi Brown Beige Shimmer Brick is not similar to the 24K Shimmer Brick. The Bobbi Brown Bronze Shimmer brick is very similar except it does not have rose gold mixed in. The Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Shimmer Brick is very similar to 24K only. Rose Gold Shimmer Brick is a little cooler in tone and 24K is warmer. They are both very beautiful Shimmer Bricks.
Haha. I love it when you post pics with two different eye looks going on! It always throws me for a second…;-). This shimmer looks so great on you, would you recommend it for someone with less blending skill and maybe a heavy handed tendency?
I think it would work! If you find you’re heavy handed, you could also use a fluffier brush – like a fan or stippling brush!
i got mine in the mail today. it’s sooo prrrrrretty!
the colors remind me of dior amber diamonds, but the texture is less fine and it appears more prominent on the skin. i love it though!
Christine, this highlighter looks exceptionally gorgeous on you. Do you think I’d be able to get away with applying it with my fingertips? I love my highlighters, but I’m a very brush-averse person. 😛
Yes, I think so!
Jeez Christine, could you be any prettier? Stunning!
Aw, thanks Sunny!
I tried this in person. I think it will look great on medium and light skin tones. I found it a bit too light for my medium-dark olive skin. I much prefer the bronze shimmer brick as a highlighter. I don’t find the bronze one emphasizes pores, but then again I’ve never really noticed my pores.
Which Shimmer Brick would you recommend for those of us with fair skin?
Maybe Beige!
I bought it and I’m a NW25 in MAC and thought it was just kinda blah. I prefer using Dior Amber Lights or my BB Nectar if I need a pinker highlighter. My biggest gripe is the packaging – why so big?!?!?!? So hard to carry for touch ups! Grrrrrrr…..
oops! meant Amber diamonds not lights! I’m getting my product names mixed up!!
Christine, lovely as always!
I just don’t know about this product. I wanted to love it, but it looks like it pulls a bit yellow. And for a girl with only one kidney, that is a very scary look.
Maybe if I get to see this in person I might change my mind. But for now, I am scared of the possible yellowish tone.
I can understand! You might like one of her rosier ones then 🙂
This reminds me of those physicians formula bronzers, I love those, they remind me so much of summer!
