Best & Worst of Tom Ford Soleil Collection (Summer 2019)

Best & Worst of Tom Ford Soleil Collection (Summer 2019)

Tom Ford Soleil Collection is new for summer, though long-time Tom Ford buyers will likely see a familiar theme woven through the color story–Soleil doesn’t change up much.  This year’s collection seemed more on the gimmicky side with the Lip Gelees, which were awful in pretty much every way, and the 24K Lip Blush, which I didn’t review but featured flecks of 24K gold suspended in a clear base that would change color based on your pH.

The newest iteration of bronzing powder dubbed Soleil Glow were nice but the brand has these shades year-round and in a very comparable formula; I’d rather see some variation in color, depth, or finish–like a deep, rusty-red bronze with a little shimmer or a light-medium, rose bronze with faint pearl.  Lissome, a cheek duo, was pretty and very true to the vibes of Soleil each year.  The four new Lip Color Sheers were a bit more pigmented, on average, than expected but were decent.

This launch included a new liquid eyeshadow formula, and they were marketed as translucent and were rather pigmented, so they missed the mark by a lot there.  That being said, they weren’t the best liquid eyeshadows either.  The brand’s Cream Color for Eyes is a substantially better formula, and if I was going to splurge on a cream eyeshadow, that’d be the one I’d go for (it’s an all-time favorite and one of my favorite products by the brand, period).

Wow! That makes the curious case of this brand’s nosedive even more interesting, Christine. I seriously had no idea that he himself was never the brand’s actual owner. Thought for sure that he began independently from EL, but I was obviously mistaken. Thanks for setting the record straight as to who really started the TF brand.

I have watched a number of beauty influencer’s who drool over Tom Ford’s products. I think there was a time when I thought that everything must be amazing since it is TF and it costs a boatload. I have since come to realize that overall the brand just isn’t for me. I have a few lipsticks, 2 eye shadow quads and maybe a couple of other products and the only one that I really like is the bronzer but they are so huge that even if I live to be 150 I won’t make a dent in it. I am not saying the people who worship TF on YT are not accurately reviewing the products because we all have very different taste and needs when it comes to makeup but some of the “amazing, so beautiful, practically applies itself, always trust TF to make quality products” is over the top for a brand that is really not very innovative, has poor quality control and in recent times has had more misses than hits. I think that Allana Davison just used a “glow” product that the brand just released and loved it and I think it comes in a very light shade so maybe I will check into it but overall, I kind of yawn when Tom Ford is mentioned, LOL!
