Becca Ocean Jewels Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Ocean Jewels
Becca Ocean Jewels Eyeshadow Palette ($35.00 for 0.49 oz.) is a seven-pan, circular palette with five shimmery and two matte eyeshadows. One shade (Mermaid Pearl) is supposed to be an “eyeshadow topper,” which is designed to be sheerer so it can be layered on top of other shades. The palette was a big improvement from holiday’s iteration with respect to quality, and the shades themselves are a bit more complex, too. The palette is larger, and there is wasted space, which I know can be a deal-breaker for some.

Seashell
Seashell is a light, muted beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and had enough substance to it to yield opaque coverage on my lid without need for a primer. It was easy to work with and wore well for seven hours on me.

Abalone
Abalone is a light-medium, pinky lavender with warmer undertones and a cooler, bluish-violet sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too soft nor too firm in the pan. It applied well to bare skin and lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Ocean Jasper
Ocean Jasper is a light-medium, red-brown base with warm undertones and green-to-blue shifting pearl. I’ve seen variations on this type of duochrome before, but this one was a lot lighter than most (and it appeared noticeably lighter in practice than it did in the pan). The pigmentation was opaque, while the texture was smooth, soft, and blendable without being powdery or dry. This shade wore well for seven hours on me.

Tourmaline
LELimited Edition.
Tourmaline is a deep, red-toned brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, a little drier to the touch, but it blended out fairly well and was buildable to full coverage with two layers. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Sandstone
Sandstone is a muted, medium copper with warm, orange undertones and a metallic finish. The color payoff was nearly opaque with a looser, slightly dry consistency that applied decently on its own but needed a primer or a dampened brush to yield really rich, smooth coverage without fallout. It lasted for seven hours on me.

Mermaid Pearl
Mermaid Pearl is a pale, white gold with subtle, warm undertones and iridescent shimmer. It had sheer coverage, which was by design, as it is intended to be used as an “eyeshadow topper.” The texture was a little drier and looser, and it applied best with fingertips patted over another product rather than using brushes. It wore well for seven hours on me and had slight fallout over time.

I’m glad this performed much better than the holiday version, but for some reason I just can’t reconcile the colors in the palette with “Ocean Jewels”
Same thought here.
This doesn’t excite me at all.
Hmm, it DOES look far better quality wise than than last Becca Eyeshadow palette from last holiday season, but it also is 100% duped in my stash I believe. I do love how you used it in your eye look, though!
This palette is so much better than the last one and the shades are quite cohesive. I think this is perfect for a subtle and sophisticated day or night look.
Gorgeous eye look Christine.
I like these, but they sure swatch lighter than they appear in the pan.
I actually love my Apres Ski palette-very subtle and light, with just the right amount of shimmer. This looks pretty may pick it up when it goes on sale. I got the Apres Ski palette for $17.
Hm, the name “Ocean Jewels” is reminiscent to me of the summer time, the ocean breeze, the beautiful green and blue shades. The colours in this e/s palette, not so much.
Money saved for the Chanel quad (302 – Première Éclosion) from their Dernières neiges collection.
It reads more oyster shells and pearls with the sheens!
I know Christine but I still think it’s a missed opportunity for Becca. This palette looks like a mixed bag, some of the shades having an autumnal vibe. They could have used some beautiful shades of turquoise, blue, etc. along with some light ones similar to the capiz shells. That’s just mho 🙂
Like Kay said, I’m glad this performed better than their earlier palette but I also am not at all thrilled with this palette – it’s an easy pass. And as a general comment, I really deplore the wasted space.
I may be alone on this one, but I love the soft, sophisticated looks I have created with these! The shadows are very interesting and complex, they wear very differently than they look in the pans.
The promo pics are what really sold it to me – the looks they created on the models are so dreamy!
I’m glad it was better quality, but I still feel very meh on this.
Not feeling this one at all.
Although this seems better than their last palette, I’m still not in love with these colors!
I really want Becca to grow and do well as a brand, so I’m happy to hear that their shadows have improved over last year’s selection. I probably won’t be buying this palette because I’m pretty sure I already have most of these colours in my selection, but I’m excited to see what they’ll bring out next.
