Ocean Jewels

Becca Ocean Jewels Spring 2018 Cheek Palette ($46.00 for 0.53 oz.) includes five shades of powder highlighter. It’s a limited edition palette for spring. I’d say that the palette is large enough not to be too tedious to use each shade as an individual highlighter, but if you use larger brushes, the pans may be too narrow. The texture throughout the palette was good, but in general, they did not feel as cream-like as the permanent line does to me–there’s just no real impact on performance or application, which is really what matters the most!

Coral Crystal

Coral Crystal is a light-medium coral with warm undertones and a golden, metallic sheen. The consistency was soft, blendable, and just a smidgen dry to the touch, but it performed well on my skin as the color applied easily, blended out seamlessly, and lasted for nine hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview

$38.00/0.25 oz. - $152.00 Per Ounce

The Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed formula is described as having an "ultra-reflective shine" with a "creamy" texture that "applies seamlessly." In general, the texture of the highlighters is incredibly smooth, silky, and finely-milled with frosted to metallic finishes and the occasional more sparkly finish.

They tend to have a high-shine, more metallic finish and are a stronger highlighter, so they are going to be best suited to someone who likes an obvious highlight over a very subtle one. That being said, with a fan brush and a deft hand, one could certainly achieve a subtler, all-over luminosity as well, but if one takes a typical, tapered highlighting brush, there will be quite a bit of pigment and highlight on the skin.

I find that some shades can emphasize the look of pores slightly to moderately, depending on application. They tend to last between eight to nine hours on me.

Citrine

Citrine is a pale, white gold with warm, green-to-gold shifting shimmer and a metallic sheen. It had rich pigmentation with a soft, smooth consistency that was easy to apply and blend out on my cheeks. I had no trouble adjusting my pressure/brush choice for less coverage if that’s preferred. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Aquamarine

Aquamarine is an icy lavender with cool undertones and a blue-to-violet shifting shimmer. It had good pigmentation with a soft, slightly drier texture (relative to the permanent line, though), but it blended out beautifully on my skin and looked luminous. This shade lasted for eight and a half hours on me.

Pink Pyrite

Pink Pyrite is a pale pink base with pink-to-violet pearl that gave it a soft sheen. The pigmentation was nearly opaque, while the powder felt soft without being too loosely or too firmly pressed in the pan, and it did not feel dry to me. The highlighter applied well, blended out effortlessly, and did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Sunstone

Sunstone is a medium gold with warm, orange undertones and a shiny, metallic sheen. The highlighter had rich color payoff in a single layer, but I felt like I could easily pickup less to get a more diffused, sheerer look out of the product. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable without being powdery. It lasted for eight and a half hours on me before fading slightly.

I have so many high lighters that I can dupe all of these, and some twice. I don’t know why I am so fascinated with high lighters, it’s not like I am 20. These are lovely, and I would tell someone who was just getting into the trend to try this out. Who am I kidding, I will probably get it after I swatch it. It’s lovely.

Kat Avatar

Wow! I was expecting this to perform poorly for some reason. I actually may pick this up, since I have no immediate dupes for any of these (although I’m sure I do have products that are “close enough”) and I’ve been looking for something a little offbeat. The packaging is stunning, and I usually use a fan brush for highlighter so the pan size isn’t an issue.

Anne Avatar

I almost walked out with this palette the other day when I went into Sephora to redeem my Play pass. It’s gorgeous! Highlighter is definitely NOT something I need any more of. Lol! I ended up grabbing the Sephora Collection Spice Market Blush palette. It was almost $20 less and a little more practical for me. I still may pick up this Becca palette being it’s limited edition.

Deborah S. Avatar

Christine, what are your thoughts on whether this would work for more medium and deeper complexions? The shades all look nice on you but I am wondering about those that have deeper complexions. My daughter is a little darker than you and I would hate to order this and then have to return it.

Beth Avatar

Dang! Should have waited for your review. Purchased the MAC Glow Lighter ( the one you gave an A ) but for only $7.00 more I could have got this.
There LE palettes have been more miss than hits, recently. I wasn’t expecting this to be as highly graded.
Maybe this will go on sale or like another person commented, wait for Rouge Sale. Can’t justify having so many highlighters anymore.

dzymzlzy Avatar

I love how you used the highlighters in your eye look because that’s actually how I’d use it most but I think I have too many palettes that I already do that with to make it a smart buy.

Emily Avatar

I’ve been debating on-and-off about picking up the Becca Light Waves palette and now am wondering about this one. I don’t own any Becca highlighters but have really been wanting to pick up Prismatic Amethyst, which is what attracted me to the Light Waves palette in the first place. Trying now to weigh the lower price point of Light Waves vs. the gorgeous packaging on Ocean Jewels! I’m curious as to how similar you feel those two palette are overall or which one is a better value.

Z Avatar

It’s only the ingredients that keep me from purchasing this. I actually have a fairly small highlighter collection and could totally justify it. Stupid sensitive skin.

Jessica Avatar

I swatched this and thought that it was really pretty and I almost got it, but I decided to go with the Kevin Aucoin highlighter palette instead. I have quite a few dupes for the Becca one, so it was an easy decision for me.

Blagica Avatar

I love your reviews! Very helpful <3 I would really like to purchase this palette but I am not sure if the formula is okay for skin with large pores. Does it emphasize pores when used with light coverage foundation? Is it possible to use this as eyeshadow in case I dislike it?

Christine Avatar

I didn’t have that issue, but I don’t think I’d say I have large pores – I definitely have visible ones, but it’s hard to say. Becca does say that some of their highlighters can be used as an eyeshadow but can’t recall what they said or didn’t say about this particular set of shades.
