bareMinerals The Magic Act Eye & Cheek Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
bareMinerals The Magic Act Eye & Cheek Palette
bareMinerals The Magic Act Eye & Cheek Palette ($39.00 for 0.63 oz.) contains six eyeshadows, one highlighter, and three blushes in a fold-up palette. Each eyeshadow is 0.04 oz., while the Luminizer is 0.09 oz. and each blush is 0.10 oz. It’s a nice palette for someone who’s looking for a range of warm-toned neutrals in a variety of finishes paired with blush. There are a lot of neutral-themed palettes out there now, so this might not be a must-have, but at least this one is high quality and the added pairing of blushes makes it slightly different. If you’re a regular Ready fan, you may find this contains too many shades you already have as there are a few from previous holiday sets and/or permanent range.
Celebrate is a light, yellow beige with subtle, warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency. It wore well for ten hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Fortune is a softened, light-medium warm-toned pink with a satin-matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, buttery texture. The color wore well for ten hours before fading slightly. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Shazam is a peach, muted by beige, with a frosted finish and warm undertones. The texture was a little powdery, though it had good color payoff. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
A-Ha is a warm, golden bronze with a frosted, slightly metallic finish. It had nice color payoff with a soft, buttery consistency that went on fairly smoothly. It stayed on for nine and a half hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Pumped is a muted, medium-dark brown with warm, yellow-ish undertones and a soft, golden sparkle. It had great pigmentation, while the texture was soft and silky. It didn’t start to fade until after nine and a half hours of wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Foreshadow is a taupe brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had good color payoff with a fairly soft, silky consistency that blended well on the skin. It lasted for nine and a half hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
The Premiere is a gold-shimmered, peach-beige with warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that could be easily blended out for a lighter look or applied for a very glowing finish. It wore well for eight hours on me (and the formula only claims eight-hour wear). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
The Close Call is a rosy, medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nice color payoff with a soft, blendable consistency. It wore well for eight hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
The Natural High is a gold-shimmered, medium pink with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation–but it didn’t seem as pigmented as the standalone version I have–with a soft, smooth texture. The color wore well for eight and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
The Indecent Proposal is a muted, plummy pink with a satin finish. It had decent color payoff but was a little powdery–the texture wasn’t as silky or as blendable as the other three shades. This blush wore well for seven and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NONONONONO.. I needs to stop looking..
So OT..but.. Yes, received another daily email from MAC promoting the &*^%% Keepsake collection. I don’t recall be so severely plagued by emails for a specific collection. Clearly sales are disappointing. Argh. Too many far better options for palettes out there.. such as this. But I’m not looking.
I haven’t noticed any extra emails – I think that it might be that there are three distinct parts (holiday color, Keepsakes, and Objects of Affection), but I think I’ve only received two!
I’m sure you have dupes!
Definitely picking this up. Christine, maybe I missed it, but what eyeliner and foundation/powder are you wearing?? Gorgeous.
THE MAKEUP LOOK
On face: Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation, Guerlain Les Voilettes Loose Powder. On lips: BUXOM White Russuan.
Don’t remember the eyeliner, sorry!
Eyeliner Sephora Good Mood? Isn’t that shade rather green? On your picture it looks grey. Would love to know which one it is!
I don’t remember the gray eyeliner in the look, sorry! 🙁
It’s pretty….but really dupe-able. LOVE the packaging! Nice to see the quality is here on this (eyeliners anyone??)
Thank goodness!
Good. I’m glad to see BareMinerals put out a nice holiday option. I love the blushes and highlighter.
Me too!
I really like the color combination. And it’s not so expensive..
Glad ya liked it!
While an easy pass for me I’m sure this will make a lot of people really happy! Definitely a makeup work horse.
I like how it folds up, so it is pretty slim without actually having tiny compartments.
Phew, after all the eye pencil horror this is a nice relief! Looks great.
Indeed!
I would purchase this set just for the blushes/luminizer! Ah! The blushes look beautiful on you as always!
Xx
Jenny
Thanks, Jenny!
Too warm-toned and dark for my taste (no highlight shade for pale people…), but maybe it’s just what somebody needs?… However I thnk it may be too pink for neutral colours’ fans and have not enough variety for people, who like to play with colours. The blushes look quite neat!
I’m sure there are many who like it and many who don’t!
I’m defiantly hauling this during the VIBROUGE sale.
Woohoo!!
I’ve been eyeing this one as well. But I’m going to stick to doing only permanent products with the holiday sets this year.
Good idea 🙂
Oh, how beautiful! While I am trying to convince myself that I don’t need most of these shades since I have them in one form or another, it sure would make a beautiful holiday gift
Maybe someone will gift it to you 🙂
Oh!! Not for me, but I think this will definitely be a Christmas present buy for me! Finally a reasonably priced, high quality palette! How did White Russian work out for you, Christine? I remember you had some concerns about the plumping formula–I hope it went well! I LOVE LOVE LOVE buxom glosses!!
Hi Julie,
I reviewed the BUXOM glosses separately – I cannot wear the formula, personally.
I saw this on a youtube channel and was like .. hmm, very nice, compact .. want it! But .. I’d like to see what else comes out too .. don’t want to peak too early .. lol.
Monica.
I don’t know how much is left! Most brands seem to have released the bulk of the offerings!
Ding-ding-ding! Found my holiday palette, finally. So happy I held out and didn’t buy those blushes in full size form…
Thanks for the review Christine!
Happy to share, Noga! 🙂
I think it looks like a really nice palette with easy to wear colours. I don’t think I’ll get it, but I’m sure it’ll sell a lot.
If it’s on sale after the holidays I might get it. It’s sort of a no brainer palette (for me) When too tired to think. Hmmm, actually it’s a bit tempting, though I probably have loads of good enough dupes.
I bet you have dupes, but it is nice to have them all in one place — BUT only if you would reach for it as a palette.
I love this palette. I don’t own a ton of Ready eyeshadows so this palette would be great for me. And the blushes look beautiful too!
Awesome 😀
I’m glad the quality of this set is so good, and it looks like a nice starter set if you want some warm neutrals! 😀
For me personally, it’s a set of warm neutrals, which means ‘Zzzzzzzz’ 😉 I will say, however, that A-ha and Shazam are genuinely very pretty eyeshadows to me 🙂
Just another day to ponder why brands won’t do a cool-toned one…
For me, the three blushes and the highlighter make this palette worth the buy.
That’s great news 🙂 It is a lovely palette.
I’m so glad to finally see a holiday palette receive so many A’s that’ very wearable, and affordable, too! This would be perfect for those who like warmer-toned shades.
It is nice to see a few good performers, lol!
I really like the blushes and the fact that there is nothing orange-y. The eyeshadows are really basic, though. Not necessarily a bad thing, because for many people, it will be a great all-in-one everyday option.
How do you think it compares with Guerlain’s Petrouchka, apart from the price tag, of course? I mean, the colors are kind of similar and I am mostly interested in blushes. I think I’m getting one of them for Christmas.
I like the blushes in this palette a LOT more than the Petrouchka palette, and they’re way easier to use since they’re not tiny.
Thanks a lot!
This is nice. I really like the blushes.
“I don’t need any more neutral eyeshadows, no matter how pretty. I don’t need any more neutral eyeshadows, no matter how pretty. I don’t need any more neutral eyeshadows, no matter how pretty. I don’t need any more neutral eyeshadows…”
But do you need more neutral blushes….
“I don’t need any more blushes, no matter how pretty.” “I don’t need any more blushes, no matter how pretty.” “I don’t need any more blushes, no matter how pretty.” 😛
As nice as this looks I’m not really into palettes. I chop and change my eyeshadow and blush preferences all the time so I like to travel with my current favourite standalone products. I don’t like being tied down to one set of colours for too long. Things like my foundation, setting powder, concealers etc. change far more infrequently but I like variety with everything else. Especially lipstick as I’m a complete lip product junkie so I have to have at least six or seven different lipstick/lipgloss options! And that’s me going away for only a few days…for a full blown holiday I would take around double that. I know, I should hang my head in shame! They don’t go unused though, I will wear up to three different colours during the day.
I digress but as far as palettes go I only have a few and their lack of usage tells me to avoid them in the future! They can look pretty good but they just aren’t for me.
I can relate, Gillian! I find that I only reach for a few palettes, and usually it is more likely to be a quad or something smaller. This one works well on my coloring, and with the blushes being nice, too, I could travel with it (but I don’t do a lot of traveling).
Those blushes are really, really nice! & they’re full-sized, rt? I don’t normally purchase the Ready blushes, but NARS blushes (Natural High looks a lot like Orga*m) are ugh…nvm.. I thought they were 10oz.’s too, but I just checked & it says 16oz. on my blush. Well scratch that lol… They’re still super quality for the price & 10oz.’s is a decent amount of blush. 16oz is a lot of blush anyway…?
Christine! I’ve been meaning to ask about your earrings! I looooove them, & since they’re about the same length & style, but different stones, I figured that someone made them for you..? They’re amazing & I love that you have so many diff colored ones to go with the makeup! Ssl ;’)
0.10 oz. is a good amount of blush! The average blush is usually 0.15 oz. or so, some higher, some lower (depends on the brand, of course), but you can probably imagine how long it takes to get through one blush 😉
I get a lot of my earrings through Etsy, and I’ve had a lot of them custom made from https://www.etsy.com/shop/bellaanelajewelry
Hells yeah, 16oz is a lot for me (not complaining lol), & lasts me quite a while.
Thank you for the link, I appreciate it ;’D
I love the presentation of this set, but I have too many of the eyeshadow shades to get this. I wish bare minerals would do a larger 12+ pan palette with all new shades.
That would be nice!
thus was my one holiday purchase. .I love it! I have worn it for the last 4 days and have made 4 completely different looks. They all suit my tone and coloring very well. I was surprised at how gorgeous close call goes on!
Woohoo! So glad you got it Dani!
This palette is really nice. The packaging is great. I like the neutral shades, but it just doesn’t wow me. I already have a couple of neutral palettes so I will probably pass on this. But I like the convenience of the eyeshadows and blushes in one product. 🙂
Totally understand! There are so many neutral palettes, so it’s hard to keep buying them!
Why did I notice this just now. You are totally Olivia munn’s twin!
Hopefully that’s a good thing!
So glad this got a good review, I was able to order it with Ulta’s 20% off! I am going to use it for travel this winter 🙂
Nice!!
About the natural high blush – i didnt get a chance to buy it with the spring 2013 remix collection and yearning it ever since. Now i understand its sold as stand alone blush (ulta) and in this palett. You said that in the palette its not realy the same as the stand alone from the remix collection. Do you have any idea if the one thats at ulta now as a stand alone is the same as the one from that LE collection?
I dont have anywhere near me to swatch BM and realy dont know what to do.
Tnx
The one I have is from the LE collection, so I am not sure if it is the same as the one at Ulta!
Looks good! 🙂
It does! 😀
ooh, this might be a gift to myself for employee appreciation weekend…
Ooh! Good idea!
Ok, now I’m in love with this palette after readind your review, Christine! I LOVED the look you created with it!
Thank you, Kary! 🙂
Really lovlez palette and great swatches! 🙂
Thanks!
This looks like a really great palette! I’m actually a little relieved the blushes are a little too light for my taste. Otherwise I’d be adding this to my never ending shopping list lol
Phew!
I already HAVE 3 of the shades here (Aha, Foreshadow and The Natural High) but GRR THIS IS LIKE THE PERFECT PALETTE. I could seriously travel with just this and not pack ANY other eyeshadows or blushes.
