Buxom Winner Takes All Lip Set Review, Photos, Swatches
Buxom Winner Takes All Lip Set
Buxom Winner Takes All Lip Set ($32.00 for 0.35 oz.) includes three shades of Full-On Lip Cream and three shades of Full-On Lip Polish. The Lip Cream formula is described as a “creamy, no-shimmer lip gloss” with “sheer to medium” coverage.
The Lip Polish formula is described as a “sheer, shimmering lip gloss with a tingling, plumping effect.” The texture of both formulas was light-medium in thickness, creamy, and moderately tacky (the Lip Creams seemed slightly less tacky than the Lip Polishes). The Lip Creams had a tendency to settle into lip lines, and they’re true to the “no-shimmer” part of the description. The Lip Polishes are sheer with a fair amount of fine shimmer with a glossy shine.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to test the wear of these formulas, as the tingling sensation was just too much for me (I am often sensitive to lip plumping products, particularly any that really have a tingle you can feel); just swatching through them and testing the wear for two shades was too much for my lips. I would expect two to four hours, given how tacky they are, though, and the two I did test were White Russian and Chloe, both lasting three hours. I wish I could be more helpful!
White Russian is a peachy-pink with warm undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage and lasted three hours on me. It does settle into lip lines and doesn’t appear even when applied, though it is not the worst offender I’ve come across. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Berry Blast is a cool-toned, medium-dark fuchsia pink with a creamy, glossy finish. This shade had semi-opaque color payoff, and it went on a little more evently than White Russian, but there was some settling into lip lines. I felt like the deeper color helped to camouflage some of the settling, though. See comparison swatches

Creamsicle is a milky, pink-coral with warm undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and this particular shade seemed to have a thicker consistency than the others. It settled into lip lines noticeably as well. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Chloe is a peachy-coral with fine gold and peach shimmer. It had sheer color, but it had a fair amount of shimmer, which gave it a more “opaque” look in a way. This was the other shade I managed to test, and it also lasted for three hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Trixie is a medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and gold shimmer. It had sheer color coverage with a moderate amount of visible god shimmer. It seemed to brighten and add warmth to my natural lip color. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Sophia is a light-medium, pinky-mauve with gold shimmer. It actually seemed more like a combination of the two formulas, as this one had a creamier look applied, which tended to cover some of the shimmer. It also settled into lip lines and didn’t go on as evenly. The coverage was semi-opaque, which is more pigmentation than as described. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Hmm yeah they do settle in lines a bit. And it’s too bad that they’re a bit tacky and more importantly, that they make your lips tingle O_O
Yes, the Lip Creams were a bummer!!
Oh, I hate the lip creams so much. I ordered one online (Purple Haze) and was do disappointed when I got it because of its scent. No one seems to mention how strong the vanilla/creme brulee scent is in these. I guess I’m sensitive to fragranced products because the NYX butter glosses are sort of my limit when it comes to scent, and these are just too strong. Even when I think of the product, I remember the scent and it puts me off.
They settle SO much 🙁 The scent is vanilla-ish, but it was subtle across the glosses. I really didn’t notice it being particular strong, though (NYX Butter Glosses are definitely stronger to my nose). That is so sad that the scent ruins it for you 🙁
Yes, the lighter shades look like they do; it’s a shame.
I can’t even stand the scent for one second. I like butter glosses but if Benefit had more variety in their lip gloss range (the ultra plush one that coincides with their powders), I’d be all over those.
Ooh these are pretty! I love natural, your lips but better glosses. Totally chill mode wear. I have a question, Temptalia. How is the smell? They look like they smell delish for some reason. But since you said it tingles then I guess they’re minty?
They smell like vanilla to me – pretty subtle, but reader Ammara just mentioned that it was too strongly vanilla/creme brulee for her (in the Lip Creams).
I like Chloe and Trixie. Plumping glosses can be hard on the lips, I can use a plumping product a day, but then the lips must get a rest for a day or two.
I don’t care for glosses that sets into liplines, so I’ll not get depressed over not being able to buy this set. Guess I’ll have to fold and go buy NARS Orgasm lipgloss, as that is a dupe for fav Trixie, and I’ve been eyeing it for a looong time now 🙂
Oh, and brave of you to test products that give you discomfort. I don’t think I’d be able to.
Sometimes they’re fine for me, other times they are not. This formula is too strong for me, but at least it didn’t leave my lips totally battered (some REALLY do a number) – enough that I was like, “Probably shouldn’t test all of them!”
I just recently received a buxom gloss as a gift with purchase- normally I don’t care for glosses, but I do like this one (I can’t remember the name of it now, but it was red). I like the tingly feeling, though, they help me stay more alert when I’m sleepy at work 🙂
I really liked the Lip Polishes – pretty shimmer and glossiness! Wish I could wear it myself!
Aw, I’m surprised by the comments! These are the only glosses I really like to wear. I also tend to have allergic type reactions to many plumping glosses (especially the Too Faced….youch!) so I feel your pain. But somehow these don’t give me problems. For anyone interested, I end up with 4-6 good hours of wear with these! I know they’re not in this particular set, but the shades Dolly and Amber are such beautiful, natural colors!! I hope your lips are recovering okay! 🙂
Like DuWop remains one of the worst, but MAC’s Plushglass is painful if I actually wear it even though it’s not that strong.
I can’t wear these either because of the tingle. I am truly not someone who is bothered by strong scents or the “menthol” feeling like that of a medicated chapstick, but the tingle on these glosses is so intense and distracting. They sting! Also I have recently developed a skin allergy to I think lanolin or some other lip product ingredient, so I have to be careful what I wear on my lips and for how long. I’m too scared to ever wear these again lol.
Sorry to hear about your lanolin allergy, Ginny 🙁 That sucks!
You’re such a trooper for this! Some of the colors are really pretty but I wish a few of them were more opaque. I could live without the plumping too
It would be cool if they released a shimmery range with more pigment!
I really like the shades! I only have one Buxom lipgloss, which was a deluxe sample and I love it. I am usually very sensitive to the plumping ingredients too but the ones in Buxom products don’t bother me at all. Too bad they didn’t work for you.
Happy to hear they work well for you, Agata! The shimmery shades are really pretty.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who cannot wear Buxom’s lip products because of the tingling! I do not have sensitive skin or lips at all, but I accidentally burned my lips quite badly last summer (grabbed the wrong lip balm with no SPF) and I had to rehab them for months. I finally got them back to normal, and they were great for 6 months, until I got a Buxom lip gloss in my Ipsy bag. I wore it for 5 minutes, couldn’t stand the burning, wiped it off, and for the next 2 months, my lips were back to their post-sunburned state and I had to rehab them all over again.
It’s too bad because the colors are beautiful!
Oh, no!! Two months after just five minutes? That is so awful, Elisa.
They do have such pretty shades – I am with you on that.
The lipline settling means I’d only be able to stand Chloe and Trixie – which are both very pretty, if a tiny bit similar.
However, I just can’t do super tingly things. They make the outer rims of my lips puff up more than the insides, making me look like I had botched collagen shots. >_<
I'll save my love for Buxom lipsticks (when I get a chance to try them!) 😉
LOL! I can do a little tingling – like Jack Black Mint is totally fine for me. Doesn’t really hurt and doesn’t linger for hours for me! Some of the plumping glosses that seem to have the plumping part as more of an afterthought also tend to be OK.
Prolonged tingling is definitely where things often go awry.
Oh, yikes, the Lip Creams don’t look so great, they settle into the lines and look patchy. The Lip Polishes are pretty, I got one as a sample and like it, but they are so sheer that I think many will look similiar on my lips. Thanks for the review. I was eyeing this set, but will be taking a pass. And such a trooper for testing them out !
I think a lot of the shimmery shades would look more similar than not (100 sheer shimmery shades? I’m sure there is some overlap!).
I like the set but the colors are a bit similar and some are too warm for me. It’s not as lip line-y as thought it might be though. Your lips do look a little extra pouty, especially the bottom one.
The last one in the post is really the last one I tried, so it would make sense.
These are beautiful colours but I I got the last mini set that was out and find that I barely reach for them. 🙁
Aww!
So glad you reviewed this set, as it doesn’t look like some of the colors would show up very differently from one another on my fairly deep lip color and I usually love most of the Buxom stuff.
Sensitivities are always so weird. I have horrid rosacea and very chapped lips, but the Buxom lip tingle has never bothered me, while I can’t use Sensibio cleanser without breaking out in welts. 🙁 Wish there were more rhyme or reason to these problems. Derms and allergists have both shrugged their metaphorical shoulders at things I do and don’t react to.
It can be so tricky to figure out what one reacts to, as most products have so many ingredients and you never know if it’s THAT product or a combination of products… or in the case of acne and the like, it could just be the wrong day!
You’re so brave to try the 2nd one after you reacted so badly to the first lip gloss. This is why we love you Christine! You are so dedicated to us 🙂 I love the colors- but I cringe at the thought of that “tingle” and the horrible reaction I’d get from the plumping chemicals!
The two I tried were definitely not the most agitating I’ve tried as far as plumpers go, but after two, I got the feeling of pushing my luck (they were looking worse for the wear).
I don’t find these too exciting. Sorry they irritated your lips so much.
I like the shimmery ones, just as pretty, sparkly things, but they are the type of gloss that is hard to make particularly unique/eciting.
I really like tingling lip products (I’m just weird and like the feeling, I honestly don’t see an effect from them), so I like the Buxom lip polishes all right. Too bad the creams look so bad, the frosted packaging is pretty cute.
Based on what products have had a bad effect on you, I’d steer clear away from the Nyx lip plumpers, if I were you. Those are the ones I’ve tried that have felt the strongest.
I don’t mind a little tingle (Jack Black’s mint-flavored one tingles a little, but I guess it’s more cooling than stinging) in general, though anything prolonged is usually not for me! DuWop Lip Venom is probably my nemesis…
Nah, too boring and to sheer for my taste
Gotcha!
I love the high shine of these, but it just feels super COLD on my lips, like I’m putting ice cubes on my mouth and leaving them there. I can handle a very light cooling product, like OCC lip tars or things with peppermint in them, but these are pretty harsh. It’s been taking me a while to get through my mini White Russian I got in the Sephora Give Me Some Lip set.
Oh no, that really sucks 🙁
I am so sorry that your lips had to pay the price for this review. My personal experience with Buxom’s Full-On Polishes and Lip Creams has varied wildly with some just feeling like a minty tingle and others flat out burning. It’s so strange. My Lavender Cosmo is totally unwearable for the burning sensation.
Their Full-Bodied Glosses do not have any tingle and I tend to gravitate towards them, even though the color range is much more limited.
I’m just glad you didn’t review the Lip Gloss Roulette set with 15 shades 🙂
Interesting that it is has varied shade to shade! That is too bad, since you might try some and love them, then others you can’t wear 🙁
I’m also surprised by the comments here. I’ve lived buxom lip gloss and wear it every day. I’ve had 5 tubes of the lip polishs and lip cream with the tingle, as well as a tube of buxom no tingle lip cream. I think it’s called full bodied. I ended up not finishing the non tingle and going back to the original. It’s more of a cooling sensation and besides the color, that sensation is the only reason I purchase such a spendy gloss. I also find that all three formulas are super moisturizing on my extra chapped lips. I’m obsessed with these. I’m sad they don’t work for the commenters on this page. I dislike that the plumping ingredients may contribute to aging of the lips but I love them so much I just can’t stay away.
*polishes, not polishs.
