Anastasia Paint Liquid Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark, navy blue with lighter, brighter navy blue pearl paired with a matte finish (more like a “matte frost”). MAC Designer Blue (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Jellies (LE, $6.50) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). NYX Sinful (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, glossier (85% similar). KVD Beauty Reverb (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, brighter (85% similar). Illamasqua Disciple (P, $24.00) is darker, more muted (80% similar). Smashbox Iced Out (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, darker, glossier (80% similar). Anastasia’s Liquid Lipstick is supposed to be “ultra-saturated” and “deliver an intense shot of matte pigment in one easy swipe” that will “stay put for hours.” It’s one of my least favorite Liquid Lipstick formulas, as it has a really long drying time and is a drying formula overall. Paint takes ten minutes to set, and if I eat/drink anything, it really disintegrates quickly (a lot of Liquid Lipsticks hold up pretty well after a meal or drinking water), but this doesn’t seem to be as transfer-resistant as other shades I’ve tried in the formula. It had good color payoff, but it wasn’t fully opaque without a second layer, which is doable with the longer dry-down time. The texture is light-medium with more of a mousse-like feel compared to a lot of liquid lipsticks (including shades I tried from the initial launch of the formula), which have a thinner, more watery or “runny” feel during application. I wish it applied more evenly as well, so I would recommend applying with a lip brush or applying a second coat (kind of like a polish). It lasted for six hours in total but was somewhat drying after three hours of wear.

Too bad about the fussy formula, it’s a beautiful blue. Hmmm, I feel like this bold blue lipstick needs a blue eyeliner or some blue hair streaks to balance it out

What a shame it doesn’t hold up to drinking some water or eating anything, because this has beautiful coverage and looks rich. If I ever get my hands on a blue lippy, it will likely be OCC Technopagan or MAC Matte Royal instead, even though neither is a longwearing formula, at least I know that going in!

The colour is really gorgeous, but I don’t have the patience to wait for a lip product to set. I like that there are quite a few blue lipsticks on the market these days. I have yet to see someone use one, though. So far I’ve only seen myself when I tried MAC Matte Royale (I’m not good with names, so I hope I got it right) in store. And my, did people stare! Fun, really. 😀

It’s a lovely color, but with the “meh” wear with the ABH formula and the infrequent use I get with that sort of color, I think I’d spring for the Colourpop or Nyx one first. Actually, I already have the Nyx blue, but you know what I mean.
