Anastasia’s Liquid Lipstick is supposed to be “ultra-saturated” and “deliver an intense shot of matte pigment in one easy swipe” that will “stay put for hours.” It’s one of my least favorite Liquid Lipstick formulas, as it has a really long drying time and is a drying formula overall. Midnight had good color coverage with a slightly thin consistency that seemed thicker than other Anastasia shades but thinner than Paint. It takes about ten minutes to dry down and fully set, and it remains fairly transfer-resistant for the six hours it wears, but it does fade unevenly from the center of the lip for me. I also get slight “cracking” once I smile as the formula clings noticeably. It was somewhat drying after three hours of wear.

Wow, 10 mins to dry down? Too bad about the formula, as it’s a nice black color. Hey, Christine, I think you mentioned Guerlain Parure Gold was your favorite foundation, but it got discontinued a couple of years ago? Don’t know if you know, but it has been re-launched for Sept 2015. They’ve changed the colors and formula though, so hope it still works for you. Sarah @ Color Me Loud has a review, and there are some press releases online.
I’m aware 🙂 Not out for me to buy yet, and I actually try to avoid reviews of anything I expect to review so I’m not influenced but thank you for the heads up! (Edited: apologies if this sounded snarky at all, didn’t mean it that way but when I reread it, I could see it being taken that way and wanted to clarify otherwise!!)
No worries! I didn’t read it that way at all. Totally understand. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the new formula works for you 🙂
🙂
When can we buy it? I tried the other Guerlain foundations and while I LOVED the finish it wasn’t as full coverage or color matched to my skin (need very light but yellow toned). But I want to love it.
Online info says Sept 2015, it’s part of their Fall collection. You can probably call the nearest Guerlain counter, and the can tell you when it arrives online or in store
10 minutes?!?!?!
Yep! 🙁
Definitely not a bad black! It’s crazy that it needs so much dry time though :-O
It is soo long!
I’m not a fan of this formula, but can I just say the matte black lips with the very glowy bronzy cheeks you’re rocking is a very unusual and stunning combination? Definitely gives me some ideas!
Aww! 🙂
I noticed that too! Looks like a great combination 🙂
Not for me! Ten minutes to dry is cray-cray. Also, at this stage of my life, the only use I have for a straight up black lipstick is to use it to darken and customize another lipstick, and for that purpose, I doubt a liquid matte could do it. A good regular formula black lippy could, though! ?
It feels even longer when you’re sitting there waiting for it, lol!
I’m not the biggest fan of the dry down either. I like that I have time to fix any mistakes but I agree that it takes way too long to set. If you go to drink anything after applying it, you’ll lose half your lip lol. It’s silly
That is a big plus – no worries about mistakes, lol! You got time to finish.
BUT YES! you have to be sooo careful while it is drying down or else you have to start all over!
Wow…10 minutes sounds like a long time to sit there with your mouth open. This won’t be replacing KVD Witches on my wish list.
It is! Feels like forever, haha!
Seeing black lipstick on anyone with light skin is weird to me. I think it looks better on darker skin tones..idk its just me..
I think it looks great on all skin tones 🙂
It’s a nice opaque black, but that’s a really long drying time. I’ll stick with Jeffree Star Weirdo. It doesn’t crack and is super-opaque.
Glad you’ve got your black liquid lipstick of choice!
It’s a great one. I’m so happy with it. If I hadn’t liked it, I’d probably have gone with the Kat von D Witches.
Wow when I hear “dry” I shiver! I really like the look of black lipstick with red or gold gloss but I’m gonna pass on this whole series from Anastasia. Thanks for reviewing the dark shades! And you snarky? Never in a million years as you are the epitome of professionalism!
I really want to fall in love with ABH’s liquid lipstick formula but I keep missing, lol!
I don’t care for ABH liquid lipsticks at all. But this shade looks great on you!
Thanks, Nicole 😀
I like it lol. I’m saving up to invest a couple of ABH liquid lipstick colors, so this will probably be in the bunch.
Yay!!
that black looks beautiful. too bad with wears poorly:( not that i can get away with black lipstick anymore, but it would be nice if there were a great one on the market.
I wish there were more black lipsticks on the market that applied well!
It’s a nice black, but the drying time, the fact that it cracks and then fades unevenly makes it a big, huge no for me. Pity really because I do like it in the photos, I like it a lot.
The drying time is sooo long 🙁
For those of us seeking black lippie options, would you ever consider reviewing Portland Black Lipstick Company’s black lipstick? I’ve seen a few swatches but I’d love to see it reviewed with your specifications and quality photography at work. 😀
Thanks for the suggestions!
A top 5 black lipstick roundup or something would be awesome, too.
Oh wow, I did not expect it to turn out so black. Very appropriate for the upcoming Halloween!
It is!
