Anastasia Honey, Peachy, Buff Matte Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Honey
Anastasia Honey Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium peachy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly on the lips, despite tugging noticeably as I had to apply much firmer pressure to get the bullet to spread over the lips. The texture was very lightweight but seemed to pull away at my lip lines and made the color appear “cracked.” This shade wore well for four and a half hours and was non-drying.
The formula is supposed to have “full-pigment” with a “smooth, ultra-matte finish.” Since the description was a little light, I also watched the brand’s video, where the formula is also supposed to be comfortable to apply and not settle in lip lines. The best aspects of the formula are how lightweight it felt on–almost like nothing on, so despite being more matte and denser, not heavy or clingy–and that most shades have been non-drying (so far).
There has been some transfer, and the finish is mostly matte but not “ultra-matte” (certainly not as flat or matte as their liquid lipsticks, as an example). Some shades have emphasized my lip lines from a texture standpoint or due to color settling into them, but it depended on the shade. The wear has ranged from four and a half hours to eight hours, and some of the richer shades can survive a moderate meal and definitely drinking coffee. I found the texture to be the drawback; the lipstick is incredibly firm and dense with little to creaminess, which resulted in an application that tugged and pulled on the lips. It was also the type of texture that caught on flakes, so regular exfoliation is key. There were a few shades that were creamier and thicker on the lips, which were more comfortable to apply, but the majority were quite firm. (They also did not get softer with use.)

Peachy
Anastasia Peachy Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer, while the texture was slightly thicker than other shades but still quite lightweight in feel. It still had noticeable tugging as I applied it, as the consistency was very firm in the tube. The color split away at my deeper lip lines and made it appear “cracked.” On me, the lipstick lasted well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Buff
Anastasia Buff Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium, rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, though it was not quite opaque in a single layer. The texture was lightweight, thin, and firm in the tube, so it tugged on the lips and required firmer pressure to get the product to pull across the lips. It was surprisingly comfortable to wear, though, over the five hours it lasted for.

Honey and Buff are my types of shades, but I already own two of Honey’s dupes and one of Buff’s dupes, all of which have higher ratings than Honey and Buff, I’ll give these a pass.
Any idea when these ABH mattes are going to show up in stores? I went looking for them (specifically, Ruby) at Sephora, Ulta, and Macy’s this weekend, and the salespeople in all three stores had never even heard of them!!! The lady at Sephora insisted I was mistaken. Doubting my own memory, I pulled up the Temptalia review on my phone and showed it to her. She just shrugged and walked away. On the other hand, the saleswoman at Macy’s said, “Now you got me all excited about it!” when I showed it to her.
per ABH, 8/15 was the in-store launch date!
Sales people can be so clueless. Fortunately my Sephora in JCP had them in the drawers and were happy to sell me one as long as I knew what shade I wanted (no display or testers yet).
Macy’s put them out today! I bought the shade Ruby. I may go back and get Dead Roses next paycheck.
I love Buff but I’m not sure if I can pull off Honey as it might be too brown for me. 😉
I could see Honey being too brown!
Buff is nice but I have Pastille so I’m set!
Woohoo!
Very nice trio of shades here, with Honey being my favorite! Also really like Buff quite a lot, as well. Don’t actually need Buff though, as I have MAC Mehr, which is close enough for me. Honey may be a “Do”, LOL!
Honey-do! Ha, ha, ha.
Too matte for me, easy pass.
Gotcha!
Love Buff! Perfect shade for fall!
It’s pretty!
These lippies don’t look that comfortable to wear and the nude shades can easily make a person look a tad lifeless.
The formula was actually quite comfortable to wear! 🙂
Buff is really interesting; I have 3 of the listed dupes (Anna, Naked [which looks terrible on me so I gave it to my daughter and it looks amazing on her], and Pastille) and yet, none of the dupes look as similar as I think dupes usually do. I could probably live without it yet I am quite drawn to it.
I find those are all shades where undertone + skintone play a huge role in the end result!
