Anastasia Holiday 2018 Mini Metallic Liquid Lipstick Set Review & Swatches
Holiday 2018
Anastasia Holiday 2018 Mini Metallic Liquid Lipstick 3-Piece Set ($25.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition trio that features the brand’s signature liquid lipstick but with a metallic finish. Per the brand, they are supposed to have the “full-pigment” of their standard formula, but I found that Blizzard was rather sheer, while Phantom had better coverage it wasn’t quite opaque. The brand’s full-sized liquid lipstick retails for $20.00 and contains 0.11 oz., which gives the set a value of $43.64.

Blizzard
Blizzard is a pale, icy pink base with a metallic finish and iridescent sparkle. It had sheer to semi-sheer coverage in a single layer, and if I waited for the first layer to be fully dry, I was able to apply a second layer and get mostly opaque coverage with two layers. The consistency was more watery and thin, which made it harder to apply evenly and resulted in a bit of product getting into my lip lines as it dried down. From afar, the high-shine finish made it look almost like a gloss. It wore well for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Phantom
Phantom is a dark, reddened burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a gently-sparkled, metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented that covered my lips evenly. The texture was very fluid and a bit thicker, and it seemed to be a combination of texture and coverage where a little went a long way and I’d recommend using a lip brush to apply or wiping off some of the product off the applicator. It took a bit longer to dry down, and when it did, it remained a touch tacky (though it didn’t lift up product when I pressed my lips together) for a half hour or so. It lasted for seven hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Mai Tai
Mai Tai is a light-medium copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, which distributed evenly across my lips without much effort. The liquid lipstick was smooth, lightweight, and thin without being watery or difficult to work with. It emphasized my lip lines a bit, as some metallic finishes can, but it looked smooth when I smiled due to how shiny the finish ended up being. This shade stayed on well for five hours on me and was a touch drying.

Do you think Blizzard could work as a lip topper?
It’s okay, nothing amazing.
Sad to see Blizzard didn’t perform well, I was planning on picking this up when I saw your earlier swatches. Do you think it would work well as a topper?
I think the description for Phantom and Mai Tai might be switched? I was seriously questioning my color knowledge when I first saw Phantom described as “copper” 🙂
I’m so annoyed you have to buy the kit to get Phantom. That last one is pink frosty lips all day and that look isn’t flattering on *anyone*.
Phantom looks out of this world.
Since I only have several true dry-down liquid lipsticks, I think I’m going to skip this set. Between the dry-down aspect, plus the metallic finish, I believe these would make my lips look like a hundred year old woman! ?
Beautiful as Phantom is I just can’t do the liquid lipstick think anymore. My lips have enough lines and wrinkles and I don’t need it to look like there more than I actually have. When I do wear liquid lips I always put a balm on over or under or sometimes both. I have found in the past that metallic type shades just don’t work well with that process. They seem to gum up and make nasty looking balls of color on my inner rim. As if that wasn’t reason enough, the other shades would look like death on me.
Phantom looks amazing but the glitter glosses aren’t my thing. I have OCC Black Dahlia, (non metal) if I put a metallic eyeshadow over it, will it be the same effect or I should look into the NYX dupe?
When I saw your original swatches I had to triple check that Blizzard wasn’t a gloss. I guess I wasn’t crazy!
Ugh Phantom looks so cool
