Anastasia Hibiscus Lip Gloss
Anastasia Hibiscus Lip Gloss

Anastasia Hibiscus Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark true coral with warm, reddish undertones and a cream finish. It was extremely rich in pigmentation–totally opaque with little product needed–that covered beautifully. The consistency was smooth, lightweight, creamy, and easy to work with on the lips. This shade wore well for four and a half hours and was hydrating. MAC Short & Snappy (P, $10.00) is cooler (90% similar). Dior Rose Tricheuse (669) (LE, $35.00) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). MAC Everybody's Talking (LE, $20.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Gone Bad (216) (DC, $28.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Anastasia Neon Carnival (-, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Barbecue (LE, $18.50) is lighter (85% similar). Cle de Peau Deco (16) (P, $48.00) is more muted (85% similar). Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Anastasia Flame Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium orange with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on evenly. It had a smooth, cream-like consistency on the lips that was comfortable to wear and seemed to fill in some of my bottom lip’s lines. It lasted for four and a half hours on me and felt moisturizing. MAC Morange (P, $18.50) is darker (95% similar). Anastasia Papaya (-, $16.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). NARS Wonder (P, $26.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Punch Drunk (DC, $26.00) is darker (90% similar). NYX Orangesicle (P, $5.99) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). MAC Ablaze (LE, $18.50) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Laundry List (LE, $18.50) is warmer (85% similar). MAC Push Some Buttons (LE, $20.00) is darker, less glossy (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Anastasia Barbie Pink Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a creamy finish. The consistency was light-medium in weight, creamy, and smooth on the lips. The color was richly pigmented and spread fairly evenly across the lips, though I had a bit of emphasis of lines on my upper lip. I felt like this was harder to see from a normal viewing distance, though it is more visible in the close-up photo. The gloss wore just over five hours on me and was hydrating. MAC Raring to Go (P, $10.00) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Whip It (304) (P, $29.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Boom Boom (210) (DC, $28.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). NARS Danceteria (P, $26.00) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Rio (-, $16.00) is cooler (85% similar). NARS Priscilla (P, $26.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Anastasia Petal Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle, warmer undertones and a cream finish. It had opaque color coverage that applied well for the most part (just a touch streaky in a few places but hardly noticeable due to the brightness and opacity of the color). The color lasted for five and a half hours on me. Christian Louboutin Beaute Colibretta (P, $85.00) is more muted (90% similar). MAC Glam (LE, $18.50) is brighter (95% similar). Giorgio Armani #523 (P, $29.00) is darker, more muted (95% similar). Dior Plaisir (779) (LE, $35.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Anastasia Weekend Barbie (-, $16.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). Revlon HD Pink Ruby (515) (DC, $8.99) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Impassioned (P, $18.50) is darker (90% similar). Illamasqua Follow (DC, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Formula Overview

Anastasia Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is supposed to be “opaque” with “high-shine” that’s “non-drying.” It is one of the more pigmented lipglosses out there that has a smoother, more cushion-y consistency that typically spreads well across the lips. Some shades gather in lip lines, and some shades apply streaky; it seems more common with lighter shades and milkier colors. The formula is non-sticky initially and develops slight tackiness over time. My experience from wearing the formula is that they are often lightly to moderately hydrating and wear three to five hours. They have a vanilla scent that isn’t too overpowering nor does it linger once applied (I notice it mostly in the tube).

Nice review. I bought an Anastasia lip stain in June after a friend made me up with it. Rich in color and lasted a long time. I like the Hibiscus lip gloss. I will be sure to visit my Sephora store to get one.

I bought a handful of these when they were half-off at Macy’s and funny enough three of these shades were ones I got! They’re so pretty but I wish she’d make the ingredients free of mineral oil and parabens. Really not necessary for a quality product!

I don’t wear lip gloss often, but these are very pretty! I especially like Hibiscus and Petal, even though their warm undertones might not suit me the best…

I just may try them… after all, I do like sheer lipsticks, and I like some shine on my lips. And gloss formulas have improved, they’re neither as sticky nor as slippery/slide-y as the were when I was young (which was, admittedly, a long time ago, lol, in cosmetic formulation terms… it just doesn’t feel like a long time ago).
