The MOTHERload of Most Extreme Opulence | 25 Color Stories for Pat McGrath
It’s Pat McGrath’s birthday and what better way to celebrate than to do the most over-the-top thing possible: create color stories from any and every palette the brand has released. As always, I highly recommend using color stories as inspiration for your next look using products you already own (try layering two shades together to get closer, too!).
Also, Divine Rose II will be restocked tomorrow at 9AM EST on Pat McGrath’s website — get 10% off with code BLOOM10!
About This Series
Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.
You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to consider incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. Consider these ideas a jumping off point!

Thanks Christine, that’s amazing. During lockdown I’ve really enjoyed using your colour stories, definitely trying to get out of my comfort zone!
Yay for a boost of creativity during quarantine, at least!
Love this post! Gives me some great ideas just by shopping my stash, thank you so much!
Wow Christine!!! Your color curations are incomparable and I love seeing your take on creating combinations with these palettes that it is sometimes hard to see looks with! Of the looks you compiled, do you have one that you like the most?
From this round, definitely #11… galaxy vibes, which I adore. Followed by #9 (more space-like but make it earthy) and #13 (I love green/purple together).
They are all so beautiful! I like her cleaner, less muted colours so I love #10 for a soft ethereal type of look especially with Electron which I wish was made permanent. I love #20 because the taupe, gray and blue / violet make me think of a darker version of Subliminal (I would love to see a follow up to Subliminal) and then #22 is also perfect because her blurples are so cool.
I actually saved all the combinations before I went to bed last night. This popped up in my email just as I was closing my computer and I couldn’t resist peaking at it. Now to spend a play day with my eyes, can’t wait!
