Eclat du Desert

Chanel Elcat du Desert Illuminating Powder ($70.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a light-medium peach with moderate, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, but the texture made it easy to dial down the pigmentation if buildable coverage was more preferred.

The texture seemed smooth, almost dense, to the touch, but it was actually somewhat powdery in the pan with noticeable excess product kicked up in the pan when I used it with a powder brush. I didn’t experience it looking powdery applied to my skin, and I felt like the powder applied beautifully to bare skin and almost looked “melted” after I blended it in. The finish was glowing without emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

As beautiful as this is, it’s your STUNNING eye look I’m oohing and ahhing over! It’s a knockout!
Okay, back to Eclat du Desert…in the dupe list, I just got reminded about some recently neglected highlighters I already have. MAC Otherearthly is so gorgeous that I don’t even know how I could forget all about it! Need to wear it today for when (or if) I go out later.

I picked this up and am so glad I did. I just love it. Melted is the perfect way to describe it. The creamy powderiness that kicks up is a bit of a downside, but I’m light-handed anyway so it isn’t an issue.

I say go for it! It is so lovely and (for me) it is worth a light touch. A little zhooj with a fan brush or one pass with a denser brush over the product does it for me. It’s buildable without looking like a sheen stripe, too!

I have to say, Pearl, that I finally got my hands on this (Canada, eh?) and my expectations were so high. I immediately opened it and swatched and thought ‘Crap, I picked the wrong one, I should have gone for the more metallic finish (The Holiday LE dupe)’. Then I swatched it on bare skin and again I was thinking it was seriously ho-hum and even contemplating sending it back because it’s so darned expensive. Then I thought I should at least try it when I’m wearing makeup. Today was that day. The product is BEAUTIFUL. I grabbed a big powder brush and used it as a topper over my blush and it turned out gorgeous..so yes, I totally get what you meant and thank you. Without your comment, I probably would have just sent it back. I will get plenty of use from this product ?????

I just love how so many of the brands are making their version of ‘melted’ powders. I have dry skin and I just hate that dry-bones-cakey-powder look. It’s so aging and unnatural looking. But, $70 — beauty is getting so expensive.

I picked this up today but I can’t decide if it is flatteringly pearly or too silver/white/ashy on my medium brown skin (I wear Nars foundation in Syracuse). Have you heard any feedback from people with medium to dark skin tones, out of curiosity?

Tough! I think the other one is a bit more unique in terms of formula (more cream-powder hybrid) and this one runs slightly more subtle in effect… but in some ways, this is easier to use (not that either are HARD to use). If you tend to wear more matte finishes or are drier, then perhaps the Metal Peach, whereas if you are a bit oilier or tend to wear more radiant finishes, this one.

When I saw a preview of this collection, I thought this highlighter was just lovely on the skin and had the effect you described, Christine, that it looked almost melted into the skin. Too bad the formula is powdery, which some might not prefer. Can’t wait to pick up my order this week.
