Is Naked the New Nude?

Urban Decay Naked Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “nude pink sheen.” It’s a rosy pink with hints of a reddish-brown, which give it more muted coloring and make it easier to wear. There’s a very fine white micro-shimmer that’s barely visible to the eye but adds a noticeable reflective effect. On me, the brown tones came out more than the rosy ones, but if you have more natural pink hues to your lip color, you’ll likely see it going pinker on you. Revlon Pink Truffle has a less reflective sheen and is pinker. MAC Shanghai Spice is lighter. CoverGirl Romance has more plum. CoverGirl Rush is darker. NARS Montego is a bit lighter and pinker. MAC Gem of Roses is a bit pinker. Bobbi Brown Heather Pink is a bit more mauve.

It’s a new-for-fall shade, but it’s joining the permanent range of other Super-Saturated Lip Colors. This pencil is supposed to be creamy, “sumptuously pigmented,” and have a “high-gloss finish.” The color coverage is very nearly opaque, and the consistency is creamy, lightly tacky, and feels like a lipstick that’s melted in the car.  Naked was comfortable to wear, lasted a full four hours, and didn’t dry out my lips.

The only downside is something most lip pencils like these share:  you will lose some product when you sharpen it, especially given how soft and creamy this particular pencil is.  Readers have recommended freezing these types of pencils prior to sharpening, which should help minimize some of the product loss.  At least in this pencil, you’re getting a good amount of product (about as much as most lipsticks).

It looks gorgeous, but I hate sticks, unless they’re the swivel-up type (like Tarte’s). I might have to get this one, anyway, since it looks like the perfect neutral/nude shade! I HATE it when companies always interpret “nude” and “neutral” to be skin-color. It always makes lips look like they’re caked in concealer, IMO. To me, neutral/nude lips should be lip-colored, not skin-colored.

I like this a lot, but I’m just not thrilled with the pencil format. If it were a twist-up that’d be one thing, but I just have a block on pencils you have to sharpen.

I like this, but I’m not sure how I feel about the reflective sheen. Hmm. I will probably stick with Revlon’s Pink Truffle LB; it’s much cheaper and I don’t like jumbo lip pencils that aren’t twist up. I wish UD would repromote these as twist up’s because I really do like these overall.

I sooo needed that tip for sharpening lip gloss pencils! I don’t know how I didn’t think about putting the pencils in the freezer… it makes so much sense.
Oh joy, next time I sharpen one of these, I won’t have to spend an hour and a dozen cotton swabs to clean up the mess they make in my sharpener!!

I actually purchased based on review and it is beautiful. Long lasting, no flavor (which I like)and not too shimmery. I will always have this on hand!

I got this recently and I’ve already used it 4 or 5 times this week. It matches my natural lip color perfectly and goes great with a smokey eye, my latest obsession is UD’s Smoked palette 🙂 Exactly like your lips but better, and not very drying, which is good.

I have this in Wildchild and I do like the overall look and consistency of the formula. I don’t mind the pencil format, but I’m not sure the white micro shimmer wouldn’t look too frosty. I think a bronzy or golden shimmer would have been more suitable, or better yet, no shimmer at all! 😉

That color looks awesome on you! Whether you like the product or not, that color is well-suited for you for everyday wear. I tried the matte ones of this line – great color and wear but felt really dry.

Hi Christine, talking about Naked and UD, did you get any samples from their new foundation, Naked Skin? If so, could you do a review? There’s a lot of hype about it right now, so I’d like to know if it’s worth the investment. Thanks!

Chelle Avatar

No it’s not just you! The foundation is not for dry skin at all. All the reviews I have seen barely anyone has found a good enough match to work with. Ladies with darker skintones cannot find a decent match either, with no half shades to help with that.

This shade of lip color will work perfectly for me, must get it!

Did anyone try it with UD’d complexion primer? I really like the foundation. Also love the super-saturated lipcolor in the featured shade, as well as in Love Child.

I have been using the foundation for over a week. It isnt bad, although I think the color they matched me with is a tad bit darker than me right now. But in the summer time I will go up a shade and it should be fine. I have oily skin and it has reduced the oil in my t-zone. And it does stay for hours, although towards the end after 12 hours, I tend to get more oily but that is ok. I do like it and I love the brush!!!

I still haven’t tried any of the super saturated glosses but this one looks really nice for an every day, my lips-but-better kinda gloss. Nice!!

I have these in several colors including the Naked shade. I was really surprised how glossy they are for a pencil. I have other similar items such as one from tarte and find the UD version has much more shine too it. I’m a big fan of these because it is a nice way to get a more precise gloss application wiithout a brush.

I love UD. The price is on par with other brands. But these pencils (including Naked) look almost identical to several colors that Sephora brand already carries. I believe they are $11 or $12. The color you have on looks like the one Sephora calls gorgeous peach. I saw them in the store yesterday and thought UD totally copied Sephora. I LOVE the Sephora pencils so much so I will not be paying the extra $ for UD. But I did get some amazing deals on urbandecay.com during their sale the other day!
