MAC Cremesheen + Pearl: Lipsticks Review, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)

MAC Cremesheen + Pearl

Spring and Summer Linger into Fall

MAC Cremesheen + Pearl is a new collection now available online (and will hit stores on August 9th) that features eight lipsticks (all with Cremesheen finishes) and seven Cremesheen Glasses. All fifteen lip products are new, but here’s the surprising news: they’re also permanent! This post features these four lipstick shades: Coral Bliss (frosted light coral), Japanese Maple (frosted light beige), Peach Blossom (frosted cool nude), and Pink Pearl Pop (frosted midtonal pink).

Yesterday, I tested as many of the products for wear as I could fit into the day, and I will continue to test additional shades today (so you might see some updates or rating changes if anything performs significantly above/below past Cremesheens).  Cremesheen lipsticks typically wear between three and four hours on me, with some of the really dark shades lasting up to six hours (think Hang Up).  The formula is thin, barely creamy, and tends to deliver semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage. It’s supposed to be a hydrating formula, but they’re typically not drying or somewhat drying on me.  They are vanilla-scented, like other MAC lipsticks, but have no discernible taste.

Coral Bliss wore for three and a half hours, while Pink Pearl Pop wore for three hours.  Though not reviewed in this post, I wore Shanghai Spice as well, which lasted four hours. My lips felt a little dry after wearing these three back-to-back.  Watch this space for any updates, as I plan to test a couple more shades later today.

Here’s some food for thought: why does MAC make all of these new shades permanent? Why not make some popular limited editions permanent? These aren’t even tested on the market, though I think they’re all general enough to work as everyday shades, so I don’t think they’ll do badly. I’m just surprised by what MAC will make permanent sometimes. I can’t be the only one who thinks this way!

All of these shades are gorgeous–and while I’m not a big lipstick wearer, I can see myself wearing Coral Bliss, Japanese Maple, and Peach Blossom. I completely agree on though–they’re pretty but also pretty basic. Why on earth do they choose ALL of these when they have such popular items like the Volcanic Ash Exfoliator that they bring back time and time again but refuse to make permanent?! And it’s a SKINCARE item! For the LOVE OF GOD–why would you make a skincare item LE?!? It’s ridiculous to release a product as LE that you already KNOW people love, yet you continue to make them stockpile it in large quantities so they can make it until the next time it pops up in a collection. I was just having a conversation with someone about this and I thought I was all ranted out–looks like there’s sill some steam 😀

Love how the lipsticks look on you! My fave has to be Coral Bliss! I will be purchasing that one, can’t wait to see the glosses 🙂

I am constantly looking out for the possibility of MAC Hibiscus
lipstick being made permanent (or at least coming back long enough to
get a couple of extra tubes), from the Surf Baby collection last year.
It’s my absolute favorite lipstick and to this day I can’t find any real
dupes for the color. While I can eventually send off a sample to Three
Custom Color specialists to get it made for me, I just wish MAC would
take some of their stuff that ACTUALLY WORKS and make it available to
their customers, rather than rotating new collections every 3.4 seconds.
I am cautiously hopeful for these new shades, at least. Thanks, Christine, as always!

Why can’t MAC make Thrills, Port Red, Queen’s Sin,Hibiscus, Sail le Vie, VG Cindy , Dark side permanent. Or introduce some stunning shades in brown, peach, red, corals. You are absolutely right Christine, they should make the popular ones permanent. I have to bid those on ebay everytime at double price coz they disappear like ghosts from online store. MAC, make yourself richer, please listen to us!

Your makeup here is just amazing! I think I may have to cave and check out those Tarina Tarantino eyeliners and that blush is giving you such a wonderful glowy look! 🙂

Not a single one from this update I would even consider purchasing.  Seriously peach and coral?  I am fair NW15 per MAC and look washed out bleh with fleshy toned lipstick. You look lovely actually and I see the shimmer and change but honestly my lips are not going into a macro shot.  { something my husband reminds me of whenever I ooh and ahh over subtle shimmer in a nail polish o.0 }  Would it have been so hard to throw in a plum or red?

afroditi Avatar

they need to add a matte purple colour in their permanent line (something like heroine) and something like viva glam nicki which will soon stop being available!i don’t get why they chose those shades, that aren’t anything spectacular, let alone that they are all cremesheens! No mattes? No amplifieds?

Gina Avatar

How interesting that MAC spent the whole press release of this collection emphasizing the frost in these lipsticks, and I barely see a speck of shimmer when these are applied to the lips. I much prefer it that way, and I might pick up a few of these now, but I find that very odd!

KaseyCannuck Avatar

This should be called the MLBB collection as most of the colours are barely there.  I also can’t understand why this is coming out with the fall launches…these colours are all pale and summery.  Maybe to stock up for next summer??

xamyx Avatar

I get the whole Cremesheen collection, and it makes sense, but MAC could have gotten by with 3 of these shades, and maybe added some deeper shades, and not necessarily gave it a “theme”. Or, if they felt they *needed* to go with a theme, why not take 7-10 of the best-sellers that were LE, and make them permanenet (since they know they will sell), and call it a “Best Of” collection.

Jenn Tozzi Avatar

Christine these all look amazing on you! I wanted to skip them all but you are tempting me!!! Glad they are permanent so I can wait!

Gabriella L Elliott Avatar

As soon as I got the email they were online, I went straight online and thank God you had swatches up! They all look easily dupable. Oh well! Thanks Christine!!

personally ,not impressed at all about this collection . hope MAC will make nice plum or dark rosy brown colour collection something … this year cosmetic companies make more darker colours for fall compared with last year … i feeling it , seems like goingback to late 90s style tho. anyway MAc also will make kind of those colour soon!! 🙂

pinkcloud Avatar

I agreed. I think Christine had a natural soft pink lip color and all the lipstick colors looks beautiful on her. Love your pouty lips Christine. Not forget to mention your perfect skin complexion. I am so jealous..:-)

Vanillasnow Avatar

Unfortunately, I can’t really pull off any lipstick colours other than shades like these in this collection, so I’m really hyped about it.  I prefer my dramatic eyes with a neutral lip, so I don’t mind these “boring” lipstick shades!  I really like Coral Bliss but I just purchased Cut a Caper, so it’s hard to justify both (although I REALLY wanted Flamingo).  Otherwise, I like every colour swatched here and I think there’s enough (though subtle) differences that they all read as different colours to me.  Sigh… want them all!

yellowlantern Avatar

Vanillasnow I’m in the same boat. I only seem to be able to pull off these kinds of colors too. (And I also really wanted flamingo when it came out, but consoled myself with Cut a Caper when it was re-released with Heavenly Creature!) I don’t really think these shades are just dupes of each other. They’re all similar in that they are soft, wearable colors, but they’re not all the same shade.

jackytheripper Avatar

I can’t decide which ones to buy!! I love all of these shades, they’re so soft and wearable…easy to dress up or just slick on casually. Love!

lisune Avatar

I can’t decide between getting coral bliss or razzledazzler off evilbay! i’m NC20 with pigmented lips but i look terrible with lighter lip colours, they make my lips look massive and out of proportion with my face! help! do you think that they can be substitutes for each other?

Debbie Avatar

NOT pleased. Went out and purchased Coral Bliss – but on my pigmented lips, it doesn’t look like much. Just a hint of pale pink, no coral to speak of. Ever Hip worked way better for me.
FYI there are a couple of Flamingo lipsticks on Ebay … oh but so expensive!
I didn’t get the chance to try it out but now I am skeptical, it may not appear as bright on me; as a matter of fact the result may even be the same 🙁

JO Avatar

I agree with what you said about mac making these permenant…it does seem a bit strange when they havent been on the market before….and yet things that have been released as LE before and are very popular e.g. starflash eyeshadows / lollipop loving lipstick are repromoted 2 or 3 times over but the whole time LE…seems very odd to me lol

Sophia Avatar

why does MAC make all of these new shades permanent? Why not make some popular limited editions permanent?: maybe MAC wants to keep them ”limited edition” so that people will run to the store every time they come out with a collection…if they make them permanent they will not be ”special” anymore :S
