Chanel Lumiere d'Artifices Beiges Illuminating Powder Review, Photos, Swatches

Chanel Lumiere d’Artifices Beiges Illuminating Powder ($65.00 for 0.63 oz.) is designed to be a beige-based highlighter with an iridescent finish. It’s a soft peachy beige with a very fine shimmer-sheen. It has a glitter overlay that doesn’t seem to go all the way through, so while you might see some sparkles on the initial swatch or application, they’re not there going forward. NARS Miss Liberty is more shimmery but still similar. MAC How Beautiful is more beige. MAC Rose Ole is slightly darker and less peach.

The texture of the powder is very finely-milled, but it does err on the side of powdery–a lot of excess powder is loosened the moment your brush makes contact with it. The powderiness translated on the cheeks, too, but can be taken down by spritzing water (true with most powdery finishes).  It does feel so soft and silky, though, so I was disappointed by how it did look powdery when applied.  If you like a really subtle highlighter, the way this reflects light is minimal but noticeable–it’s one of the subtler highlighters I’ve come across in the past few months.  When I tested the wear on my cheeks, it managed around seven hours before looking a little faded (it was hard to tell, since this is so skin-colored against my complexion).

@GirlieReview Hi Girlie, Cheerios, indeed! I think the jokes on Chanel because on every blog I’ve read, someone has made the Cheerios connection 🙂

@baby in a corner Hi Baby, As I said above, I’m NC15 and yes, this does act as a very sheer, light bronzer. If you’re familiar with Chanel’s Sable Beige, D’Artifices is lighter than that, but still has presence.

@baby in a corner Hi Baby, LD’AB glows rather than shimmers once the overspray has been brushed off. It is subtle and is more luminous; less sparkly than Sable Beige.

Oh my gosh. I don’t understand how Chanel calculates their prices. It just boggles my mind that a highlighter can be $65. I feel like that price tag is asking for perfection. It does look lovely and naturally glowing on you, Christine.

@Por I agree; at this pricepoint, I expect it to go on smoothly. I have an E.L.F. highlighter that I paid $1.50 USD for that gives the same result, only I don’t have to spritz with water, as it gives a smooth, silky glow, and the color is very similar.

Lumière D’Artifices Beiges gives you a very natural glow, Christine.  You look lovely.  My complexion is much lighter than yours (NC15) so this gives me noticeable warmth and color.  It will be perfect for autumn when I’m getting tired of the more pronounced summer bronzers but not yet ready to completely abandon a lightly sun-kissed look.

I have not had any problem with the application being powdery.  I use my Hakuhodo powder brush and tap off any excess before sweeping it on.  I can easily see, though, where the use of a stiffer brush might result in picking up and applying too much of this ultra soft powder.

I really want to pick this up but already own and use Dior Amber Diamonds everyday. How would you say the Chanel one compares to the Dior one? Thanks!

I just can’t get over the chickenpox effect. I find it even more pronounced in that close-up than it was in the initial photo for the collection! Even ignoring the price and how the colour would do nothing for me, the chickenpox pustules would stop me cold.

Yeah I definitely passed on this one. I went to the mall specifically for this but walked away with Rose Initiale and Troublant instead. I found this highlighter to not be glowy enough and instead, seemed only to add a bit of powdery beige color to my skin. Was disappointed with this one

I’m just not loving it. I think the design is ugly–cheerios indeed, or something like it–and I’m just not loving the powder. I think it mght be too warm for me, but even if it wasn’t, I think I’ll pass on this. I want Rose Initiale and Troublant, though.

I bought this based on excellent reviews found elsewhere on the web, and then waited for Neiman’s to deliver it like a kid waiting for Christmas. I have to admit I was slightly disappointed when it got here. No other reviewer really mentioned how powdery this really was. For $65 I’m a little ticked at the amount of products that flies into the air or the side of the compact the second my brush hits it.

That all said- it does give a gorgeous, very, very subtle glow. The fact of how subtle it is makes it take some getting used to for me, since I really lean toward creamy, very glowy highlighters. It’s growing on me, though. I wore it yesterday layered under Mac Fleet Fast blush and it lasted all day and looked gorgeous. I was a little sad to wash it off!

I keep trying to like mine, but I am going to ship it back to Chanel.    It looks beautiful on you Christine.  I am NW20 and it barely shows up on me at all…… I consider myself light skin tone and there is no way I could use this as a bronzer and it does not even highlight for me.  Maybe if I stain really hard to look I can see a slight glow.  I am really bummed about it because I wanted to love it.
