Cosmic Purple (105)

Sephora Cosmic Purple (105) Cream Lip Stain ($14.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a bright, medium purple with strong, warm pink undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was thinner and more watery, which resulted in medium coverage that did not apply as evenly as expected. It needed a second layer for true, full-coverage color and that would also help make the evenness less noticeable. The lipstick seemed to emphasize my lip lines as well. This shade lasted for five and a half hours and was slightly drying.

Formula Overview

$14.00/0.169 oz. - $82.84 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "high-coverage" that goes on "smooth" and yields a "silky, lightweight stain" that is "long-lasting" and "never sticky" and "won't dry out lips." One of the signature traits for the formula is that it is a thinner (and yet somehow creamy) texture that does spread well but feels thin and very lightweight on the lips. It dries down quickly, but I never felt like it was troublesome to apply, even if I needed an extra moment to get around the edges of my lips, so it was a more forgiving formula despite setting more quickly. Once it set, the color did stay locked on for hours--I tested shades for around eight hours and many were still going strong. The formula was non-drying to slightly drying to me. They had a moderately strong, sweet scent (almost like burnt sugar) that also smelled just slightly "perfume-y" to me, but it seemed to dissipate after an hour of wear.

The pigmentation varied from shade to shade, but it did seem that the more shimmery and metallic shades often were less pigmented and did not always apply as evenly and sometimes seemed to sit in my lip lines. The cream/matte shades applied more evenly and had more opaque coverage on average.

Stone Blue (104)

Sephora Stone Blue (104) Cream Lip Stain ($14.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark blue with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The lipstick had a creamy, fluid texture that was lightweight and very easy to spread across my lips–almost too easy, and with how pigmented it was, I’d recommend using less than you think you might need! It took a bit longer to dry down, and it seemed to get into my lip lines a little bit as a result. There was a touch of tackiness for a few hours after it mostly set, but I didn’t have any issues with the color lifting. It wore well for seven hours and left a stain behind, while the formula felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

I just wore a teal blue lipstick (ColourPop Getty) outside my home for the first time, to a big party, and got so many nice compliments (plus some funny comments and a few weird stares). I can’t wait to wear it again! Stone Blue is a great shade, but I just wish it wasn’t so matte.

I have Cosmic Purple and love the shade. I use it as a topper for a different more purple lipstick to bring in a bit of pinkish tint. It works well for that but I do have to be careful about the amount of product I am using when I apply it as a topper as it is more easily broken down and pills on the inner rim of my mouth. I can’t reapply it very often so it is something that serves a specific purpose for me.
