MAC Lightscapade Mineralize Skinfinish
MAC Lightscapade Mineralize Skinfinish ($29.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as a “soft candlelit beige with multi-dimensional shimmer.” It’s a pale, white-beige highlighter. Something worth noting is that the color of a mineralize skinfinish can dramatically change based on the veining–look at Lightscapade from September 2011–there is so much more veining! They did end up swatching similarly, though this one seemed a little less pigmented. theBalm Promiscuous Pearl is more frosted, a slightly darker beige. MAC Snowglobe is rather similar, more of a sheen than a shimmer. Chanel Beiges Ombres Tissees is more frosted. MAC Truth & Light is more golden. MAC Too Chic is similar but paler.
The texture is soft, and the powder is finely milled with very subtle shimmer, so it’s not glittery or metallic when applied like some mineralize skinfinishes can be. It is fairly sheer, though, so you could use a denser blush brush if you so desired. You could also use a stippling brush like the 188 or a more tapered/angled brush like the 168 to highlight the planes of the face more easily.
As much as I want to be, I’ve never been in love with the mineralize skinfinish formula. They really just don’t wear very well–many of them seem to accentuate any skin imperfections as well as pores, and they wear off quickly. Lightscapade is one of the better finishes, because it does not emphasize skin texture or pores much at all, but it does have wear problems. I applied Lightscapade as a highlighter this morning, and it was patchy and faded after four hours. After eight hours, it’s barely there.

Is this April’s fools?
I am sorry I posted this comment because at first I saw it said $20.00 (now it’s updated) and I thought this must be a joke or I should have waited to buy it at that price ! (I bought it last yr sept. 2011) and to be honest I followed the hype, I used it like 4 times since then…I need to re use it 🙂
It’s the ugly beige version again! What the hell, MAC?!
Beigescapade’!
So, they are releasing this again? Maybe I can get my paws on it, this time around. 😀
Christine, your eye makeup looks amazing! I was so not intereted in duos 2 and 3, but now I’ll have to keep them in mind 😉
could you confirm if this is gonna be permanent now? ive heard rumors!! :))
I asked MAC this afternoon, and they said no.
thanks Christine!! Considering you already reviewed this just a couple of months ago,I was expecting you wont do a review! Thanks for taking time! We mac addicts surely appreciate it!! :))
I know a lot of people complained about it looking more beige than it did originally (and I don’t think I had/have the original–I can’t remember!), so I thought I would try again.
Trust that it’s not your photos making it look more beige than the original. The original looks similar to the swatch, but the actual product from Danse was just so much prettier to look at in the pan. The old one looked more pearl than beige and was pretty much entirely swirled, multi-colored veining. It sort of reminded me of a pastel Jawbreaker.
Yes! The original was very bold in its veining and I see no overall beige-y cast in the original whatsoever. My original from the Danse collection, I still have and love, and it looks like a polished rock after use. I love, love looking at it, and its sheen is very pink because of the large pink vein in it. That being said, I love my Beigecapade too, but it is almost a different product.
I have the original Lightscapade from the Danse collection, and it’s so much prettier (at least in the pan). I almost took it with me the last time it was released to compare the two…I might have to do it this time around. It looks totally different!
Man!!! I was looking forward to this one.. I think I’m going to have to pass. Thanks so much for doing what you do, it really helps me filter things out logically instead of buying a ton of things because of all the hype. x
How does lightscapade swatch against Nars albatross? I always heard they are similar. Is that a good dupe, do you think? I would also love to see a comparison between the old and current lightscapades!
Oh, no, they’re not similar at all! Sorry, I do not have the original version.
The swatch actually looks alot like NARS Miss Liberty or Nico. There may even be something similar from Physicians Formula (at least it looks very similar in the pan).
Lightscapade is off-white, pretty much, while NARS’ Albatross is a white gold. I’m sure if you google old vs new Lightscapade that you will probably find comparison photos! I feel that both swatch similar, but the original version was just much more pretty to look at when in the pan, LOL.
The skin finish a “meh’ but your eye look, wow, love it!
Hello Chris!
Thanks for the review. I don’t have the original one, but I kinda like this one! Would it show on a NC 40 girl like me ?
Thanks 😀
It might turn a little ashy, IMO!
There were like 10 of them at the CCO when I went last weekend. These will probably join the others, since they’re the Beigescapades and not like the originals.
Even more beige in the pan than the last repromote. No thanks!
Like most everyone else, I’m pretty disappointed that this round still looks nothing like the glorious original. Something about the cost of materials rising? Idk. The thing that annoys me though is that MAC shouldn’t even have pretended that they were repromoting Lightscapade. They should have just called this something else. I mean, I think it’s a good highlighter if you want something more subtle than most MSFs, but calling it Lightscapade caused major disappointment.
wow now I know I can pass on this total fail… good thing… cause the sephora sale broke the bank
Hey I’ve heard it was being made permanent, is that true ?
MAC told me no.
Eu queria ser RYCA para poder ter todos esses produtos da M.A.C!
Ai como eu sofro…
I asked a Mac mua and they said that this will be a permanent product!
I asked MAC but they told me no :/
Maybe permanent at Pro only??????
Would lightscapade look ok on someone NW/NC 20? I tried on an extra dimension MSF, but it accentuated my pores like crazy.
It would be fine! But MSFs accentuate pores far more than Extra Dimension Skinfinishes do!
I got this a few days ago and it’s my first MSF ever. The overall colour is definitely very light and not very veined. I was a bit surprised at how dusty it is! When I used it with a very soft brush, product dusted up like crazy. 🙁 The finish looks lovely and not too shimmery on my cheeks, though the wear isn’t too great, maybe 6 hours. I liked this on my eyes below the browbown as well. I don’t think I’d get this again though, the texture is just not that great.
