I’m so glad I restrained myself from buying any of these. I like the Subversive palette and if it was closer to $40, I might buy it. But for $125, I’m not impressed.
I’m eagerly awaiting the dupes for Blitz Amethyst!
I’ve seen something very close to it within MUFE’s “diamond” eyeshadows, which are of comparable quality but at a lower per gram price point.
Astral Ghost Orchid wins for best eyeshadow name of 2017, if not ever.
That said, $125 a palette is too rich for my blood. There’s a few I’d splurge on as singles if they were available, mainly Blitz Emerald… but nah.
Also seems like a poor move to have duplicate colors across the palettes. If I was a serious collector who was going to spend $375 to get all three, I’d want to have 30 unique eyeshadows, not 3 instances of Extreme Black (which to be fair, does look like a good black, but still…).
This is my main problem with them! I would want to buy all three for this discount (if you buy them all together on the PMcG website, it’s $300 instead of $375), but that repeated black is really bugging me. I know people want a black in a “standalone” palette to deepen colors, but three pans worth is A LOT of the same black eyeshadow.
Glad I waited for swatches. I cannot justify the snack bracket for my budget. I’m mostly underwhelmed here but there are a few shadows I would love as singles.
These are pretty, but not $125 pretty. I can’t wait to see how they measure up on Temptalia!
I don’t think those are even close to being worth their price.
I have a doubt regarding how do you take price into consideration, for example ir this palette has the same quality as the “I think I love you palette” which got an A, this one would get an A even if is 10x more expensive?
Thank you!! I love your blog and always enjoy your reviews.
I don’t take price into account. If a product is $5 and gets an A and has similar claims as a product that costs $125, then an A is an A is an A. I don’t think that something should get an A because it is “good for the price” while I also don’t think that a product should be rated lower solely because of the price, given that readers are smart enough to determine whether something fits in their budget, whether it’s “worth it” to them or not, etc. so my focus is on the quality of the product.
Makes sense! Look forward to your review!
Great response!
Can I just say, that is exactly why I trust Temptalia’s rating system so much. Thanks Christine.
??
Oh my Gigabyte! These are gorgeous and the packaging is just… ugh! Wish I could afford em! Awaiting reviews!!
Hmm. My favorite of the 3 was the Subliminal and I’m not particularly impressed by the swatches. I think I’ll definitely pass on that one, for that price I don’t want 3 shades that look sheer and patchy…
Blitz Emerald though… I hope you can find a good dupe! This one is really beautiful.
Way to rich for my blood and some with questionable swatches. Probably will do well with primer but still for the price I would expect a killer set of shadows. There are several that I would buy as singles but the singles prices, if they ever released them, would undoubtedly be more than I would want to spend. Sorry, passing on these.
While I cant justify dropping 125 dollars on makeup at all right now, especially a single palette, I’m definitely keen to see the reviews. If the quality is there, any one of these look like they could work beautifully for a variety of looks and not just variations of the same colour scheme, so since these are permanent I’m definitely not ruling out a purchase. Go big or go home I say – I’m not in the habit of piling up several 30-40 dollar palettes per year so ??♀️
I do hope she comes out with well-curated quads or trios or something as well. I desperately wanted the blue in the Dark Star collection but all those LE collections all sold out in seconds ?
Kuávsui, I think that quad idea would be awesome! I’d consider a high quality, very well put together $45 quad, or even a $60 quint before a $125 10 shade palette any day! These are just far too rich for my wallet, I fear.
Beautiful color story, finishes, packaging, and names. But that price puts it firmly into “never” territory. Would be worth duping with singles!
Too expensive for my budget, but I love Blitz and Emerald.
Love your Subversive eye look, Christine!
Thanks, Seraphine!
Subversive palette looks interesting, love Gigabyte, wish that was a single. Subliminal palette looks weak. And some interesting shades in the other palettes too, but I don’t think these are worth $125 each.
I like the first one, the best. But I won’t be getting any of these!!! I can imagine how $$ they’d be in CAD
If I were to pick just one, it would have to be Subversive. That vivid violet, smoky duochrome blurple and rich olive-lime have me! But, I’m not about to spend $125 for just 10 shades. Or at least, I don’t think so! We shall see….
Pat sure knows how to make a perfect blackest black eyeshadow but everything else is pretty underwhelming. Shimmers are pretty but the mattes are meh. For the price I expected this to be God’s gift to the makeup community.
These swatch beautifully, as they should at that price point.
I get personally offended if something this pricey isn’t up to par, even if I have no interest/ability/inclination to buy it. It’s the principle.
But Pat McGrath isn’t a designer with a makeup line as an extension of their brand (like Marc Jacobs or Tom Ford) or a celebrity who is famous for being famous with a line (Kylie Jenner)- she’s a powerhouse makeup artist. If the stuff is bad, that’s her reputation in the industry. Insane performance is the only thing she’d probably attach her name/reputation to.
I just came to say how intensely black and smooth Xtreme Black looks.
The black is perfect and some of the individual colors are gorgeous but overall I’m unimpressed. The way social media has reacted to her products and her price point had me wanting/expecting more.
The swatches seem pretty good in all of them, which is a bonus. And the size of the palettes is a good one too – not too big or cumbersome.
In each of the palettes there are shades I love and those I wouldn’t use. Not quite sure why there has to be a matte black in all of them, especially when one of the palettes has a few darkish greys.
The nods to colour are great, especially that beautiful green.
However, the price is a drawback. So expensive.
Thank you so much for the Sneak Peak Christine.
By the way Christine, your eye looks in all of these are just stunning. You are so talented.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Can’t wait for your reviews of these. I’m liking the palette with green more than I thought I would. I’m sure these will be gone in an instant during the fall Sephora sale, but if not I’ll try to grab one.
Subversive is sitting on my counter just waiting for me to play with it. Now if I could just do an eye like Christine!
OK, I’m glad I waited to see this. First, your Subversive eye was so beautiful, but the swatches revealed that I only like certain ones: The VR’s & the Blitz’s in all of them and in the Subliminal palette (the one I would have not chosen prior to your swatches), I liked four more: Pale gold, Lilac dusk, Xtreme black, and Astral white. So at least I know that if I were to purchase on, it would be the Subliminal so as to have my money’s worth. That said, I liked our therapy discussion from he other day and it gave me the idea that if I worked on using Pat’s and other companies mixing mediums with the shadows I already have (great duo chromes from Makeup Geek & Natasha Denona), I figure I really don’t need Pat’s palette. (Unless you end up giving Subliminal an A or A+, then I may just for colors sake purchase it.
OK, I relooked at them all, I see more that I like, I need a sale for all three. I need to mix so many of them up that I just wouldn’t be able to settle. The only ones I’d want to remove and a refer of the nudes and obviously I don’t need three blacks. Argh!!!! Maybe I could go half and half with someone and we pop out and trade??? LOL!
I wish I could pick and choose the colors I would actually wear. These all look to be of supreme quality. The color is so even and dense.
Just not budget-friendly, at least not for my budget.
*sigh*
I only really love the purple one Night Creature, if not sold as single I would be interested in a dupe.
some of these eyeshadow (the jewel tones are what caught my eye) are SO beautiful, but I don’t think i’d ever buy this for the price…
still, im interested to see some dupes!
Most of these look pretty nice. I’ll wait for your verdict though.
Looking forward to your dupes; there are 2-3 shades I adore from each palette but man oh man I am not spending $125 for 2-3 shades.
I agonized over getting Sublime or Subversive. I went with Subversive and have and have been using it everyday for over a week. The packaging is gorgeous and feels heavy and sturdy in the hand, but my palette has collected a good deal of fingerprints. I found that with certain shades using a damp brush or finger yielded best results for me. I honestly don’t mind appying eyeshadow that way, but some people might not prefer that method. Personally, I really like this palette and have found fun ways to wear it in bold and neutral looks. I know only select Sephora locations in the U.S. carries Pat McGrath. It would be nice to have these available in person to swatch and play with.
I can’t wait for your thoughts on these Mothership palettes. Thanks for everything you do! Been a long time reader for over 8 years.
You all do not understand the photos do not do the palettes justice . I love high end make up these are amazingly iridescent pigmented reflective and multi dimensional . They stay true to color just as you placed them ALL DAY long . No fading and they do not “blend” as I blink my eyes and muddle into one color at the end of the day. I love these I have the sublime palette and I really appreciate each and every color in the palette. They are brilliant but each color is wearable and I am really a neutral girl . Sorry these are worth passing on cheaper palettes and splurging on one fabulous one !
