Post Punk

Urban Decay Post Punk 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a bright, light-medium chartreuse green with strong, yellow undertones. It leaned yellower rather than greener, but the green tinge was noticeable. I felt like it could look yellower or greener depending on what else was paired with it. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, but the texture was slightly more emollient compared to the other two shades in the launch, which I felt made it apply a little unevenly so I had to go over the line at least twice to get even coverage. It wore well for six hours on my waterline and eight hours on my lower lash line (the brand doesn’t comment on these for the waterline, so the rating for longevity is only based on the lower lash line wear time).

Formula Overview

$22.00/0.04 oz. - $550.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to go on "smoothly, stay soft and super-creamy for blending" before it "dries to a long-lasting finish that won't budge" with "intense" coverage. I'm a long-time fan and user of the formula--almost a decade now--and they're still a go-to. I keep a handful of formulas at my fingertips, and I have all of the shades from this range in a cup within reach.

It isn't the longest-wearing formula I've come across, but I find that it balances longevity with creaminess in application and ease of removal at the end. They also wear away "kindly," so while the line might get thinner, it doesn't drag or bleed toward my under eye area. The formula has solid, long-wear at eight to 10 hours before fading, thinning, or having a bit of migration to the outer corner. The less shimmery shades tend to have the most visible movement, whereas the more shimmery shades tend to fade or thin.

The pigmentation varies a lot from shade to shade with more matte shades often having the most coverage in a single layer, followed by more metallic finishes. The more glittery the finish, the weaker the coverage and application were. Many of the shades in the range are buildable and apply with near-to or opaque coverage when applied in short, overlapping strokes. The majority are very comfortable to apply on the lower lash line or waterline.

They have a creamy, glide-on consistency as promised, and they can be smudged or blended out, so they are particularly useful for someone who likes a more diffused look for their eyeliner.

As someone who has had a lot of these eyeliners over time, I can attest to the fact that they do not dry out readily. Some of the shades I have that I don't use (because they're THAT old) are still creamy and glide-on when swatched.

Editor’s Note: While Basquiat’s state approached Urban Decay to create the collection, the collection is not without concerns from those who have been drawn in and inspired by Basquiat’s work. Some of the artist’s supporters have expressed concern over the commercialization of the artist’s work (generally) and the lack of a model of color in the collection’s campaign, both said to be inconsistent with some of the themes shown throughout Basquiat’s body of work. A third issue raised is with respect to Urban Decay’s usage of drug-related names (like Junkie, Druggie, Bump, etc.) when Basquiat died of a heroin overdose at 27 years old and how those two can be reconciled. Others who enjoy Basquiat’s work are excited for the collaboration and the acknowledgment of the artist’s influence, along with the possibility of making his work more widely known. As always, we invite thoughtful and critical discussion and debate but ask everyone to be respectful.

Anatomy

Urban Decay Anatomy 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark, reddish copper with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented and fully opaque with a single pass. The consistency was creamy, smooth, and velvety without feeling waxy–it seemed less wax-based compared to most of the brand’s 24/7 range–and glided on without tugging. It wore well for nine hours on my lower lash line and seven hours on my lower waterline. Of the three shades launched, this one was harder to dupe.

Vivid

Urban Decay Vivid 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a bright, cyan blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage in one stroke, which was buildable to full opacity in two layers. The pencil was creamy, soft, and smooth–it felt less waxy compared to a lot of the brand’s 24/7 liners–and never tugged or dragged on my lash line. It wore well for eight and a half hours on my lower lash line and seven hours on my waterline.

Darn, I was almost hoping for a bad review on these! I think I will have to pick up Vivid if it comes back in stock, because I can see myself using that sort of bright gorgeous blue a ton on my lower lashline during the summertime. I need to talk myself out of Anatomy too, but it’s beautiful and swatches phenomenally– I just don’t see myself ever reaching for a red eyeliner!

JC Avatar

Unfortunately, Vivid is OOS at Sephora.ca and has been since soon after the collection came online! Everything else is still there, so I’m hoping that there might be a restock, or that I’ll be able to see these in person at a store.

I wanted the vault for this collection but I didn’t have my paycheck when they put it up on the Sephora app at 3:00 AM EST the night it was released during the VIB Rouge Sale and now I’ve heard that wherever that vault is put up for sale it sells out instantly. The color Anatomy is so unique for an eyeliner and I think it would go really well with all the warm tone palettes like ABH Modern Renaissance and the Huda Beauty Rose Gold palette.Vivid is also gorgeous.

It sold out sickeningly fast! I don’t even understand. I was on the UD countdown page for hours. I was signed in, my payment method was ready, I was completely prepared. Btw, I am still badly ill but that was the first night this hit so I was up waiting with a 101.8 fever, swollen glands…the works. I’ve never seriously considered a Vault before but I set aside money and held through the vib sale and Ulta 20% off with 5x points on UD. I bought some stuff but not much. That money was staying for the Vault! Anyway the countdown clock started the final 4,3,2,1 ..,I don’t even think I saw the 1 ..it hit 2 and the page started moving and dumped me into the collection. By a stroke of magic my pointer happened to be in the right spot and when we were moved into the collection it was already on the vault!! I knew it was fate! I didn’t waste a second even glancing at anything else or reading anything about the vault I instantly hit add to bag and sold out appeared. How is that possible? Does anyone know? There’s no way anyone beat me, like I said my damn pointer was even in the right spot. Not a second wasted. So how could it instantly be sold out? I understand quick 10 second sellouts happen but I was faster than that! I tried the early invite only Sephora early app release, the Sephora release and the Ulta release and the same thing happened every time. ? It’s not about the makeup for me. This one hurt. I know there are bigger problems in the world but this was personal and special. I’m still heartbroken ?.

I would/will, and I’m pushing 70… despite having Sly. I love rusty, coppery shades. Probably not as a whole eye rim, though. There was a time when a drab version of that color was considered a neutral. A neutralish eye with kvd Cleo or wrath, in the outer V, hell ya! But no coral lips. Or warm pinks. We all have very different ideas of what’s a great look in makeup, and that’s what makes it such fun. I’m into that lip, too.

kjh Avatar

Just ulta’d locally. Epigram and Anatomy. They look great with the Ciate CM palette warms. IIRC, you had Olivia Audacious as a dupe. On me, Epigram is closer to the lolitas, as I said elsewhere. Vastly lighter than it looked on C. The pencil is a true brick red, wooohoooo!

Alecto Avatar

I’d like Anatomy as a replacement for Sly Like A Fox, which I eventually gave up on (didn’t lay down well, and tended to clump and lift itself when I tried to go back over an area). I was truly happy with the color of SLAF, as it was so unique, but the formula just did not work for me.

Alecto Avatar

SLAF is the only Contour Matte Gel eyeliner I have from Sephora, but I have quite a few of the 12 hr eyeliners, and a couple of the diamond ones, and I really like all of those. I guess the problem for me is the “Matte Gel” formula.

AB Avatar

I’m not surprised at lack of dupes for Anatomy; have been on the lookout for an auburn/rust/terra cotta for like 1-2 years and so far no real luck . I had Sly as a Fox but found it too light; I have NYX in copper (disc) but it’s too dark/brown and disappears after like an hour andyway. So I’ll be happy when my order gets here as I think this will suit me.

Indy Avatar

I have five acid/chartreuse green eyeliners (including two of the dupes you listed), but I am still totally getting Post Punk! I love the color so much, I think it looks cool with my grey/blue eyes.

I also think I will pick up Anatomy because I think the rusty orange-red color will bring out the blue in my eyes!
