Urban Decay Blackmail & Time Vice Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Blackmail
Urban Decay Blackmail Vice Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a deep purple with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied decently, but there was certainly room for improvement. The texture was thinner, though not so thin that it was really difficult to use, but as a result, the color did not go on as evenly as it could have. This shade wore well for six and a half hours and was non-drying.
The Vice Liquid Lipstick formula is supposed to be “intensely pigmented” with “complete coverage in one coat” and “nondrying wear” that is “comfortable” and “waterproof.” The majority of the Metallized shades are not even close to one-coat coverage–maybe three or four or coats!–and did not layer evenly, plus they had a tendency to lose sparkle/glitter through wear. Whenever a shade wasn’t opaque in one coat, it often looked streaky or uneven. There were some shades that had fantastic, one-coat coverage, while others featured more medium, buildable coverage but several applied uneven, patchy, and didn’t level or improve after drying down even with a second layer.
The consistency of the formula was smooth, lightweight, and comfortable to apply, but the dry down was lengthy and some shades never fully felt dry (instead, lightly tacky). There was a learning curve to applying and wearing these, too, as they were unforgiving if you accidentally press your lips together before the formula has dried down–the formula is quite tacky as it dries down and pressed lips together results in color lifting away. The wear varied from shade to shade (and between finishes) from four to eight hours, and so far, most were true to the nondrying claim, at least. I didn’t notice any scent or taste with them. They were difficult to remove compared to most products; I had the best luck saturating a cotton pad with eye or lip makeup remover (Neutrogena, Lancome, Shiseido, etc.), yet curiously were not that long-wearing on me (relative to liquid lipsticks)–they seemed to develop a little tackiness with any meal or drink (even just water) and degraded from there. Overall, the formula was extremely disappointing after the successful Vice lipstick launch last year.

Time
Urban Decay Time Vice Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark blue with a hint of purple and flecks of blue and violet sparkle. It’s a really spectacular color–very unique–but the formula left something to be desired. The formula felt thinner, and it required some maneuvering to really get the color to go on evenly. Some of the color pulled into my lip lines, and my lips appeared drier as a result. It took about five minutes to dry down and remained a bit tacky for another hour or two. This shade lasted for five hours before larger chunks of color and sparkle started to flake off of my lips.

Oh yeah, Time really is something! Too bad about the formula indeed
It is a neat shade!
Time is such a unique shade! It’s too bad that the sparkly formulas seem to be having issues in this line.
It is! I wish it was better since it was different!
I know the formula isn’t good but I bought 4 of the metallized ones anyway. I have issues… ?
If you like it, that’s all that matters! 🙂
It’s all that glitter. I love that sparkle. I’ve found that if you wait for them to dry then gently rub your finger over it the glitter really shows through.
Looks like I need Train Bleu.
🙂
Hmm, I do have Blackmail lip liner, so I am wondering if that would help this shade to be more even? Because I actually like that this isn’t quite as deep as the regular tube version of Blackmail lipstick!
I have the tube version of Time. Beautiful and very unusual shade, but this one certainly seems much more complex, multifaceted shimmer! I’m thinking that this could be amazing over a dusty purple or blue lip pencil like the newer ones by Nyx!
A liner would help a lot!
Time is a cool color, but so hard to get right!
Agreed 🙁
Time is such a beautiful shade!! I’m so sad that the formula isnt better!!!!!
These are really disappointing. I get so happy when I see colours I love, like the blue-purple slightly sparkly Time, and then I read the review and know I just wouldn’t like it if I got it.
So much money saved, but I would really have liked to have been very tempted and then have setteled for one or two.
