MAC Tartan Tale: Highland Honey Blush

MAC Highland Honey Blush ($18.50 for 0.21 oz.) is a rich shade of peach-orange with a very subtle satin sheen.  It can be built up for a more intense, more orange-y look or used lightly for a lit-from-within kind of glow.  I love that it’s pigmented without being straight-up orange, but it’s also buildable; you can easily apply it lightly or pat more on for a more intense look.

It’s warmer and more orange than Melba Blush, which is a darker peach with less of an orange pull. It’s not as orange as NARS Gina nor as coral as NARS Gilda. It’s a shade lighter than Illamasqua’s Lover, but the two are similar. It’s also similar to Utterly Game, which leans a little coral but not by much.

Very pretty! Too bad I won’t be able to pull off such a warm color. At least that’s what I think… There’s no harm in trying it on in the store, right? :).

it looks beautiful! I wasn’t considering this before but now.. o0o you got me on this one.. I will for sure check it out today 🙂 Thanks so much for posting!

I can’t decide if I want this or not… I’m really afraid of it being too orange on my skin. Is it similar to peaches??? I am NC25, do you think it will be nice on my cheeks?? Thanks!!

Yomna Avatar

I have Peaches and I love it. You think this could be a replacement or just a while different color? I don’t want to buy this and have it look the same on me as peaches.

oooh it’s very pretty and different! unfortunately i have no idea what MAC skin tone i am or if this will make me look too yellow (i have a soft yellow undertone in my fair-medium skin)…

I love Peaches so I think I will looove this. I’m very fair but my pink undertones don’t show when I put my makeup on, so peachy/orange blush is very fun and looks nice with a nude/peach lip.

It looks like it would be simultaneously bright and chalky =/. I wanted a nuder peach, I love my NARS Gina, but I doubt this would work for a NW43. I’ll have to wait for NARS Passion to make a reappearance.

I totally talked myself out of ordering this blush today as I sorta told myself I was going on a (blush no buy) damnit my principles. Well I ordered a few other things so that will have to suffice. I’m sure something similar will come out again soon. It might be a touch too orange anyway… yeah excuses excuses… guess I have to be happy with peaches… especially since I just got it after coveting it for a long long time like over half a year. It’s certainly an exercise in learning to appreciate what one has…

I will probably buy Illamasquas lover as a dupe next month (when i will most likely cave from the no buy)… since I’ve been wanting to try their blushes for a long time too. Which do you like better?

Hi, I already have ripe peach (ombre blush from SCF) do you think this is a close dupe? I’ve heard they look very similar when worn so I’m wondering whether I should skip my highland honey..?

I’m a warm-toned redhead and peachy blushes are the BEST on me – and this is definitely a winner! Pinky-peach blushes are okay if I’m feeling like I want some pink, but if I want a really nice, natural, every day color, peach is my best bet. Oh, My Highland Honey!!! It’s actually my favorite blush I’ve ever tried so far, so after I bought one, I also bought a back up!
I love MAC but wish so much of their good stuff wasn’t limited edition!
Great review! 😀 Very accurate description of a great blush!

i have this and adore it but i’d REALLLY have to built it up in numerous layers to get it to look like it does on you & i have medium-tan skin. this wasnt very pigmented at all
