MAC Tartan Tale: A Triumphant Blush Face Kit
MAC Tartan Tale: A Triumphant Blush Face Kit
The A Triumphant Blush Face Kit ($38.00) includes two blushes and a beauty powder: Melba (soft coral peach), Peachtwist (golden peach), and Smooth Harmony (neutral mid-tan; beauty powder). Both Melba and Peachtwist are permanent shades. Smooth Harmony was last released in 2008 with Heatherette.
- Melba is a matte medium-dark, browned peach. This is a permanent shade with a matte finish. It’s a great shade for warmer and cooler skin tones, because it’s a peach without a lot of yellow. Very smooth and pigmented, not at all chalky.
- Peachtwist is a bronzy peach with champagne sheen. It’s permanent shade with a sheertone finish, so it has a frostier finish. It’s also less buildable, though it’s not really that sheer when worn.
- Smooth Harmony is an orange-tan with a soft sheen. It always looks orange when I wear it on my cheeks. I recommend using a stippling brush like the 187 to get a softer, more natural glow for light to medium skin tones.
Each blush is 0.13 oz. (full-size is 0.21 oz.), while the beauty powder is 0.20 oz. (full size is 0.35 oz.). Ultimately, you’re getting approximately $23 worth of blush and $14 worth of beauty powder–total value around $37 with a price tag of $38. It’s not a value palette based on quantity of products, but you do get three products for $38 instead of buying two blushes ($18.50 each) and a beauty powder ($25.00) separately.

- Product: 28/30
- Value: 7/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 4/5
RECOMMENDATION: I really like the face kits, because sometimes MAC blushes can be too expensive to purchase on their own, so this palette lets you try more for less–and you won’t get through a pan any time soon. I think this palette is more suitable to warmer skin tones, though.

Any updates as to when will the collection be launched online? I know its couple of days before the launch in the stores.
Hi Sam,
Please check the FAQ, I answered this question there. Thanks!
I might consider this one. Peachtwist is especially lovely.
Just a quick question: Is Peachtwist permanant??? Thanks a ton for all of your hard work especially with you school (I follow you on Twitter 🙂 )
Thanks again!
Yes, as stated in the post, it is permanent!
hi,
is smooth harmony appropriate for conturing in light to medium skin tones? thank you! 🙂
I think it’s too orange, personally!
hi! im loving this whole collection.. especially full fuchsia l/s! im wondering if full fuchsia is close to impassioned? i already own impassioned and dont want to get full fuchsia if it is very similar.. what do you think?
They’re similar – you could probably skip!
This is sooo my kind of colors!!!!For me it’s a must-have 🙂
i like the packaging!
I JUUUST put this one on hold 🙂 Melba and Peachtwist have been on my “want” list for over a year and I’ve just never picked them up (I have Cantaloupe which looks very similar to Melba). Now I can get both of them plus a Beauty Powder I don’t have (and I LOOOVE orange!) in a cute little compact! Thanks for the swatches! If I haven’t said yet I LOVE that you’re doing face swatches for blushes like this now – It helps SO much to see the product like that! Helps a TON!
I do not like Smooth Harmony, but the other two look great!
Melba is my favorite blush! I hope these sets are available tonight. I have some birthday money saved up and I’m looking to splurge.
These all seem to run so orange to me, especially smooth harmony. Even though I consider myself a warm toned girl, the colors just seem okay, if not unflattering.
Christine! I must say that you look amazing in navy blue eyeshadow! You look divine!
Thanks, Audrey!
I love how you break down the cost and value for us. It helps me decide on if it will be worth buying this set or each product individually. Thanks so much!
Sorry, but no – definitely not for me.
Which face kit would you suggest for someone who is an NC43? Thanks.
If I had to pick one, then this one.
Ahh I have Melba, just got it and love it….I may just get this because it has turned me into a blush fanatic!
I like this one. peachtwist is really pretty and I swapped Melba so I need to get another one. Smooth Harmony reminds me more of Refined Golden bronzer than “Golden”. At least on me (NW25/30) because Refined Golden looks orangey:(
Loving the new packaging! Can’t wait to get instore and see this year’s Christmas gift sets
I definitely like Melba best on you. Are you wearing mellow mood on your lips? I really like your lip colour!
Yep!
I like the blushes, but the tartan packaging is kind of ugly and distracting! The darker green tartan works better than the horrendously bright neon orange ones :/
Cute set. But I’ll pass. I have two out of the three… yay for spending anymore money.
Even though these peachy colours are very pretty, am going to go with the pinkish face set as I already have several peach, coral blushes. Wish I could afford this one too though, makes a very nice travel set.
Im dissapointed.I own Melba and it sure doesn’t look as pretty on me 🙁
What brush did you use to apply it Christine?116?
116!
I think cool-toned gals can make this work too. One of my favorite blushes ever is Pinch Me. Actually, I didn’t like it for the longest time because it looked boring in the pan but it added some nice warmth to my face that didn’t look obnoxious or unrealistic. I’m a very fair NW20. Actually, I tend to favor warmer blushes over the cooler ones. I’ll definitely buy this!
Not the best blush shades. U look like u have rosacea. Sorry 🙁
These blushes, like the rest of this collection, seem geared at women with very particular coloring.
Well seems like MAC finally released something for women of color. i’m sure that most of the people that view this blog are paler hued and the reason why so many people dislike this palette. welcome to our world, lol.
I love it I would actually purchase this.
love that kit. do you think it’s necessary since i already got my highland honey?
You could skip!
You look SO beautiful in every single one of these blush/powders!!
I Esp love Melba and Smooth Harmony on your complexion.. truly gorgeous!
Thanks, Hope!
This is the prettiest pic I’ve seen of you so far, the one where you’re wearing Melba blush. Really cute look, combined with the pullover colour too.
Thanks, Jasmin!
