OCC Whatever Lip Tar/RTW

OCC Whatever Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is a medium, minty green with warmer, golden shimmer. It had semi-opaque to mostly opaque color payoff, but it was the hardest shade to apply out of the six shades made for Urban Outfitters. The texture seemed too emollient, which caused the color to really settle into lip lines noticeably. It lasted for three hours and just felt higher maintenance as the color would slide around. The color is really interesting and not something I have seen, personally, but I would highly recommend a lip liner with this one. Dior Clover Matte (400) (LE, $35.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). Make Up For Ever C601 (DC, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). NYX Risque (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). KVD Beauty Plan 9 (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

OCC Alt-Girl Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark purple with subtle, warmer undertones and a metallic shimmer. It had mostly opaque color coverage, though I find a lot of the Metallic Lip Tars to be less pigmented compared to the creams, where a little goes a long way. The texture is more emollient and comfortable to wear, while the total wear was five hours. It was very lightly hydrating for me. Urban Decay Flashback (P, $18.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Urban Decay Mad Hatter (LE, $18.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). MAC Wakanda Forever (LE, $24.00) is more shimmery, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Maybelline Violet Vixen (DC, $7.49) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Too Faced Pixie Stick (LE, $22.00) is darker (80% similar). MAC Own the Look (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, warmer, less glossy (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

OCC Shoegazer Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is a deep, reddish plum with subtle, warmer undertones and a cream finish. It was richly pigmented with a creamy, smooth texture that applied over the lips easily with even coverage. The doe-foot applicator does a fairly good job of getting crisper lines, but you might want to use a lip brush or lip liner to get those edges really crisp, as this shade stained quickly! It lasted for over eight hours and left behind a strong stain behind. The formula was neither hydrating nor moisturizing for me. There was something that really drew me to this color; it was almost not quite a warm plum but not really a cool-toned one either–the tone and depth made it more unique to me. YSL Berry Brazen (88) (P, $38.00) is cooler (95% similar). Bite Beauty Beetroot (DC, $26.00) is cooler (90% similar). Estee Lauder Thrilling (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (90% similar). Giorgio Armani Art Deco (502) (PiP, $38.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Makeup Geek Boss Lady (P, $12.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Aphrodite (P, $55.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Tarte Spicy (LE, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). Hourglass I Can't Live Without (P, $34.00) is lighter (95% similar). Guerlain #65 (P, $36.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Lyin' King (P, $7.00) is lighter, more muted, cooler (90% similar). Smashbox Rose B4 Bros (P, $24.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Angel City (LE, $10.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Chanel Message (214) (P, $37.00) is lighter, more muted (85% similar). Urban Decay Manic (P, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Estee Lauder Unattainable (P, $32.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Chanel Timeless (80) (P, $45.00) is cooler, less glossy (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Hibiscus (DC, $37.00) is lighter, more muted (85% similar). Becca Hibiscus (DC, $24.00) is lighter, cooler, glossier (85% similar). Urban Decay Plaid (DC, $18.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Givenchy Rouge Suedine (410) (P, $37.00) is cooler, less glossy (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA OVERVIEW | OCC Lip Tar/RTW ($16.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a long-wearing, pigmented liquid lipstick. The formula is light-to-medium in weight with some shades with a thinner or thicker consistency. As you might expect, the thinner ones tend to have sheerer coverage, though the average Lip Tar is semi-opaque to intensely opaque (like the smallest amount is needed to get opaque coverage). The Metallic shades tend to be thinner and have more slip compared to the cream ones. The formula is sometimes drying, sometimes just not drying. The formula is mint-scented but has no discernible taste. The new Lip Tar/RTW comes with a doe-foot applicator, which makes it easier to apply from the tube than the original Lip Tars.

Whatever is a colour I’d never wear but find absolutely gorgeous. Maybe I could just settle for it in nail polish or eyeshadow form. Actually, thinking about it Illamasqua Melange Nail Polish isn’t too far off!
Also Shoegazer is lovely and I love the name too.

I’m a huge fan of Shoegaze music, and I’m really liking the way the Shoegaze liptar looks. I’m thinking we have a match!

Yes, it’s a genre of music from the 90’s. The name is derived from the performers’ gaze cast downward when playing (lots of guitar effect petals to focus on). Music I grew up with and listen to practically daily still.

I like that Whatever is such a unique color, but it’s going to emphasize my yellow undertones and make me look sick, so not for me. Need to check out Alt Girl -like that it runs purple, rather than pinky or plummy purple

That hue of green is gorgeous on you! If I much younger I would try this trend, but I’m afraid it would look silly on me now. I would wear it on my tips/ toes or as a smoked eyeshadow liner.

I collect vintage Jadeite kitchen and housewares and this lipstick hue is near the spot on colour. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE IT! I think I will get for the colour alone.

I’d wear Alt-Girl and Shoegazer. I have UD Plaid so I’ll pass on Shoegazer but if I can’t get Mad Hatter, I’ll get Alt-Girl. I love the colour itself of Whatever but don’t think I can pull it off on the lips, haha!
