It had opaque color coverage with a lightweight consistency that was firmer in the tube, so it tug a little at the lips but didn’t drag with uneven color. The color wore well for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Chanel Libre (62) (P, $45.00) is lighter (95% similar). Pat McGrath Realness (DC, $40.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bite Beauty Rhubarb Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “rich plum rose.” It’s a muted, rosy mauve with subtle, warmer undertones with a soft sheen. It had rich pigmentation that applied with smooth, even color. The formula had a light creaminess to it and was a bit more emollient (and had more slip) compared to some shades in the range. This shade lasted for five hours and was very lightly hydrating. MAC Soar (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Plum Rose (DC, $37.00) is cooler (85% similar). Formula Overview
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is supposed to have “bold, creamy color” with “extreme moisture, soft texture, and creamy wear.” The majority of the range is very pigmented–typically opaque with one pass–with a few shades being semi-opaque but usually buildable. All 34 shades are shimmer-free and vary being a soft satin finish to a natural finish (light shine but not glossy). The consistency is very lightly creamy to lightly creamyu with some shades requiring light-medium pressure and can pull the lip a bit when gliding it across the lips, though the color doesn’t appear ragged and the bullet itself doesn’t feel stiff (while other shades applied without tugging, so check individual shade reviews!) The majority of the shades I’ve tested have been lightly hydrating to non-drying and fairly comfortable to wear for the long-haul. They wear longer than average, from four to eight hours, depending on the intensity and propensity of the shade to stain.
In comparison to the Luminous Creme formula: The level of color payoff and lemony scent are the two things that are similar, but they feel quite different on. If you have drier lips and need the intense hydration that the Luminous Creme formula offered, I don’t know if you’re going to like these. The Luminous Creme formula had a thicker consistency with a very creamy texture that glided on and never tugged at all, and the thicker consistency paired with the glossier finish was more forgiving on lips as it didn’t emphasize lines, natural texture, dryness, or flaking. Some had issues with the Luminous Creme formula bleeding/feathering and shorter-wear due to the amount of slip (high), and the Amuse Bouche formula has much, much less slip, so the wear is longer. I didn’t typically experience bleeding/feathering with the Luminous Creme formula, and that is also true with Amuse Bouche, but I would expect less with this more satin-finish formula for most (but not all). The scent seemed slightly stronger in the Amuse Bouche range, but it wasn’t noticeable after I was done applying the color.

Is this Rhubarb a dupe for Bite High Pigment Pencil in Rhubarb? I love the color from the swatches posted, but I am wondering if Bite just duplicated that shade in a different formula.
I would have thought so, but the pencil I have is a a lot warmer! http://www.temptalia.com/side-by-side?sbs_1_search=Bite+Beauty+Rhubarb&sbs_1=222651&sbs_2_search=Bite+Beauty+Rhubarb&sbs_2=155521
Almost like a warm-toned version of the shade. When I go and look at the even the full face photo, it is still warmer (usually that is the photo with the least variance, since it’s further away, so nuances can be muted). http://www.temptalia.com/product/bite-beauty-high-pigment-pencil/rhubarb?i=179113
Those colours are right in my alley. Good thing they are permanent because right now isn’t a good time for me to buy beauty products.
Phew 🙂
I love rhubarb. I think I need this. 🙂
Yay! 🙂 Enjoy!
I’m in trouble, I can see myself wearing all of these! Pepper is my fave though, been eyeing that color for a while
This is a more “wearable” (traditionally speaking) set of shades for sure!
i want all of these. but i dropped $$$$ on beyoncé tickets. and i have no time for new makeup, + i’m on a “use up what you have” streak but this is making it tough.
Seeing Beyonce live is totally better, I can only imagine 🙂 Have a blast, LC!
All three are really beautiful shades, especially Rhubarb! But one thing that is quite odd is that it seems Pepper isn’t the same shade as the Luminous Lip Cream Pepper? They appear quite similar, so I’m a little confused.
I do know that after returning The Fashion Flock the other night, I tried on several other shades, and Mehr was one of them. It looked fantastic! But somehow got talked into getting Please Me instead, which reminds me of Sake, kind of….
I don’t know why Pepper vs. Pepper isn’t showing up, because I know I put it in there! This is the second time that’s happened to me, so I’ll have to get the guys on it to see why. Pepper is close – less pigmented, glossier, appears a bit lighter/warmer, but I think they are very close but the opacity + less glossy finish account for those changes.
These three look very similar, yet I can see the difference. I love this rose-ish tone for my everyday type of shade. My issue with Pepper, which I had and returned in the old formula, was the lack of opacity. So, I think I may like this new formula. I really do like the hydration aspect of the older formula too though!
Hopefully when you get a chance to try the new formula it will still be at least somewhat hydrating!
This might have convinced me to buy Sake! 🙂 I’m also loving Rhubarb but they might be too similar for my taste.
Sake is a nice one!
I’m getting my first one today and if I like the formula I’m probably going to go broke buying these because I love the colors so much. I’m a little concerned about the creaminess of the formula now.
Let me know how you like them, Aline!
So curious to know how the new Pepper compares to the old version! I wore it at my wedding so I love the shade.
Added it! I don’t know why it wasn’t showing before!
They’re all very pretty, especially pepper and Rhubarb are very pretty.
They are!
I see colours like this and I can do it all over again x 100. I have so many dupes. I have to say, I’m liking the new formula. Sake arrived yesterday. While still providing ample smooth coverage, the formula is definitely drier (without looking dry) and adheres to my lips more than predecessor. I think it will give me better wear without creating desert lips. I’m staying strong and just going for this one nude mauve shade.
I’m curious how hydrating it will be compared to the previous formula for you, Wendy. I definitely think these, on the whole, will last longer for most people than the Luminous Cremes!
I NEED ALL OF THEM
Oh, have fun, Shari!
Oh I love all of these! They look identical in the group photo but are clearly all different and lovely. I cant’ choose between Sake and Rhubarb!
Tough choice 🙂
I need them all. Yes I know that is kind of ridiculous, but it’s how I feel.
lol! 🙂
All of these colors are beautiful on you, Christine! I THINK I could rock Rhubarb.
Aw, thank you, Mary!
I know you haven’t reviewed Cava but Bite told me via insta that Sake is a similar color to that but deeper and more pigmented. Can you speak to that at all? I really enjoy Cava and am bummed to see Sake have a (relatively) low grade.
Not sure 🙁 I don’t think I have Cava at all unfortunately! From googling for swatches, it seems like it is a pretty good deal darker.
Sake looks like it would be a better color for me than Pepper. I think Rhubarb is neutral enough I could get away with it. Pepper looks quite great on you. Sake was one of the shades I was drawn to from the lineup as a potential nude.
I bet you’d like Sake!
Love them all! This is so weird but, I’m positive my Sake is darker and a tad more purple than yours! I’m not just basing that on the lip swatch but on your arm swatches compared to mine too! hmm.
You know, after seeing Bite Beauty’s swatches of some shades on fair and darker skin tones and how different they are, it sort of blew my mind in general just how different a shade can look based on skin tone alone (because the lighting is the same!).
Love, love, love these shades. Sake looks like a perfect MLBB shade for me.
Hope you can try it, Rachel!
Love each and every one of those shades. I love Bite Beauty, and I’ll go look at these. but I appreciate your warning that they’re not as hydrating as the Luminous Creme formula
I really loved how hydrating the Luminous Creme formula was!
Lovely daytime colours that would suit most outfits and work situations. They look lovely on you Christine. But I prefer my lipsticks to be thicker and creamier than what these seem to be.
Thank you, Genevieve!
These colors are so beautiful and would look perfect on a array of skin tones. I would definitely think about picking these up.
Awesome! Let us know if you try one!
These are so pink!
I expected them to be more brown/purple based on the bullet.
I was expecting Rhubarb to pull warmer as well!
I have the rhubarb pencil and it looks nothing like this.
So weird.
Thanks for the quality review as always.
These sure look nice on you! And, I can see them being a good neutral for most people.
My issue with the old formula was the bullet was so soft; it broke on both tubes I tried. I didn’t bother buying any more after destroying two perfectly good tubes in a row. I hope the new formula is a little sturdier.
I’m guessing that you’ll have less trouble with these – these are definitely much firmer 🙂
Rhubarb is a really cute color!
It is!
These look pretty! I like Sake, but if it’s lighter than NARS Anna, it may be too light for me. I’d like to give Rhubarb a try, but Indian Rose might be better for me, if it’s cooler.
Indian Rose is definitely going to be cooler, I think. Rhubarb is more likely to run warm than cool based on how it looks swatched/on/in the tube to me!
These three are nice! I love this dusty rose/mauve color but I have lots & lots of options for daily wear already. I thought they would wear darker but they are beautiful on the lips. Pretty on you Christine!
Thank you, Trish!
I’m very interested in these 3 – I was in Sephora yesterday and they have a sign set out with a reserved space by their Bite Beauty products stating in store release is March 4th. I’ve set my calendar!
Yayy!! A date with Sephora ;D
I should get sake as my pink shade from this line. Looks a tad bit like MACs Angel that I wear sometimes and awesome for spring!
Yay!
I bought Sake and Rhubarb last night then came on to read reviews. I have had an issue lately with dryness due to mattes. This formula feels good on my lips after using Mac prep and prime. Love Bite!
Happy to hear it, Lisa!
Had to update. I’m returning these. The formula is drying and emphasizes lines and worse yet they don’t last.
