Chanel LA Sunrise Rouge Coco Shines Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Shipshape (114) Rouge Coco Shine ($37.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium-dark orange with warm undertones and a light shine. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a fairly even application. The color lasted for three hours on me and was very slightly hydrating. The Rouge Coco Shine formula is designed to be a sheer and hydrating, but I typically experience little hydration with this formula myself (these as well as many ones in the past). Tom Ford Beauty Neotropic (LE, $36.00) is cooler (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Sunset Orange (DC, $37.00) is brighter, more pigmented (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Roberto (P, $36.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented (90% similar). Estee Lauder Hot Chills (310) (P, $32.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty All the Way (122) (DC, $30.00) is lighter, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC Dozen Carnations (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Obi Orange (P, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Safari (LE, $7.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Love Feeling (LE, $20.00) is lighter (85% similar). Chanel Mythe (71) (P, $45.00) is more shimmery, cooler (85% similar). NARS Short Circuit (LE, $26.00) is brighter, more pigmented (85% similar). YSL Make It Burn (101) (LE, $38.00) is cooler (85% similar). Estee Lauder Impassioned (P, $32.00) is brighter, more pigmented (85% similar). Burberry Orange Poppy (273) (P, $34.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Excite (LE, $19.00) is darker, brighter (85% similar). Bite Beauty Purée (DC, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). Maybelline Tangy Tulip (960) (LE, $7.49) is lighter, brighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Chanel Mighty (116) Rouge Coco Shine ($37.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium, fuchsia pink with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It makes my lips look pinker and darker without a lot of “noticeable” color in a sense; because it brings out more natural tones present in my lip color, there’s more of an illusion of a stain. It was sheer, though, and if you have more pigmented lips, I don’t know if it’ll show up at all on you. The color lasted for two and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. ColourPop Juice Bar (LE, $7.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Chanel Rendez-vous (87) (P, $37.00) is warmer (95% similar). Guerlain Pinktie (002) (P, $32.00) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Elise (448) (P, $37.00) is more pigmented (90% similar). Urban Decay Sheer Ladyflower (DC, $22.00) is darker (85% similar). ColourPop Sweet-Thing (LE, $7.00) is lighter, brighter, more pigmented (85% similar). Estee Lauder Pink Dragon (P, $30.00) is more pigmented, warmer (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Raspberry Shimmer (1) (P, $28.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Chanel Energy (118) Rouge Coco Shine ($37.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark coral-pink with subtle, warm undertones and a soft shine. It had sheer coverage that went on evenly overall with an emollient consistency that glided on and didn’t tug. The color lasted for three hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Guerlain Attrape-Coeur (171) (DC, $37.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Giacomo (P, $36.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Chanel Melodieuse (136) (P, $45.00) is warmer, glossier (85% similar). MAC Play It Soft (LE, $20.00) is warmer (85% similar). YSL Rose Neillia (33) (P, $34.00) is warmer, glossier (85% similar). Guerlain Very Pink (360) (P, $37.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Givenchy Magnolia Organza (301) (P, $36.00) is warmer (85% similar). Too Faced Bon Bon (DC, $22.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Lustering (P, $19.00) is cooler (85% similar). Chanel Emilienne (452) (P, $37.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). These lippies are nice but they look so dupable and… uneventful? Like more of the same. Chanel could easily have re-promoted existing shades rather than releasing “new” ones that don’t add much to the range, if you ask me.
That’s true! I wonder why they don’t do more repromotes.
On my very pigmented lips these wouldn’t show up at all…
It’s a pity.
Definitely true! 🙁
Meh, these are so bright in the tube, but so sheer on the lips, not paying $ 37 for tinted lip balm.
And that’s pretty much what the formula is supposed to be – I was surprised they didn’t have any regular Rouge Allures to counterbalance the sheers.
My thoughts exactly.
The wear-time and sheer-ness at this price point leaves me cold. That, plus the fact that these don’t at least make up for that with more intense hydration? Just NOPE. ?
(Where is a Grumpy Cat emoticon when you need one? LOL)
I hear you, Nancy! Some really love the hydrating aspect of the formula, but it is like MAC lustres for me – not hydrating (though these are better than lustres, which are actually drying sometimes!).
I just don’t like these. They are so overpriced IMO.
Totally understand!
That Mighty Rouge looks so much more delicate in that swatch than I anticipated, but I love it.
It is pretty!
Hmmm – well I think we can save our money here…..not really good enough for the price.
Definitely not if they aren’t hydrating — I think that they NEED to be hydrating for whomever buys to justify.
I’m so spoiled by these super opaque lip colors, and know it’s intentional formula wise, but I’m sad these are so sheer. The colors are so vibrant in the tubes and nearly bare on the lips. Wish these had a little more impact.
I wish they were like, ridiculously hydrating, because then there would be that.
I love these options for a sheer, but still colorful and hydrated look. I will definitely be looking into a few of the dupes, since I find $37 to be a little high for me right now!
Man, I can’t believe I’m going to see the day when Chanel lip products get to $40. I remember them at $30, and I just feel old, lol!
Energy is certainly my favorite but Mighty is perfect for a no makeup makeup look.
Do you think you’ll splurge on either, Erin?
Hi Christine!
What shade in parure gold are you wearing?
Thanks!
I mix 02 and 03.
Nice but no cigar for me. They look lovely on you, however.
Thanks, Claire! 🙂
Actually, I think the Energy shade looks very pretty and natural on you.
I looked in my lipstick box this morning and found so many of these that I don’t think there is room for even one more. My favorite coco shine is Esprit, which is more opaque . I still dislike the rose scent on my lips, though. I am looking foreword to trying their Rouge Stylo when it arrives at the counters.
How hydrating is the formula for you, Pamyla?
Very pretty! I like that they’re semi-sheer, it makes them so easy and wearable.
Glad to hear it!
The name ‘Mighty’ for the blue-pink lipstick makes me laugh, because it’s so sheer! It would be a pretty color for me, but I have Sheer Ladyflower. Energy looks like the kind of coral-pink that looks good on me — maybe I’ll give it a try!
Keep us posted if you end up trying Energy!
Pretty, but nothing for me. I think I’m repeating myself, when I want sheer I use a gloss or a tinted balm, I do own sheer lipsticks, but I hardly ever use them, so I absolutely don’t need any more.
I hear ya, Helene!
I have Energy and it’s very bright and pigmented even though it’s sheer. It is a gorgeous raspberry shade and it’s really hydrating.
Glad you like yours, Lisa!
Is there any lipstick which is more pigmented and looks like Mighty in the tube/bullet? Preferably more affordable one? The shade in the tube is superb but the formulation not so much. It is too sheer so the colour doesn’t show up. I would appreciate a matching nail polish recommendation too.
Hi Martyna,
Please try using the Swatch Gallery and searching for the type of color you’re after!
I might pick up shipshape. I love orange lipstick but only have enough warmth in my skin to wear very red toned oranges. The ultra-sheer nature of this lipstick allows me to go a bit oranger since it’s not sitting so boldly on my lips. So this is actually kind of exciting for me. I can have an oranger shade than I can usually pull off. I’m seriously thinking about it after testing it today. I agree about the sheerness though. I needed about 4 layers to get the color payoff that I wanted.
Update: I purchased shipshape today and I am absolutely thrilled with the color for reasons stated above. I think there is a very fine goldish shimmer in this formula but it is so fine that it’s difficult to say for sure. However, the shade started to lose its vibrancy after about an hour and a half. It was still there but looked dull so I reapplied over the old layer and it looked great. I noticed this “lipliner” type fading if I left it untouched for 2 hours but very subtle because formula is so sheer. Overall, I am basically a lipstick collector so I am thrilled that this lipstick filled a sought after color void in my collection. If you are looking for good color payoff for the high price you will not find it with this formula. It’s also a bit high maintenance despite its sheer nature (touch ups every 90 mins, basically). I love it but I can certainly see how many people will just skip this one.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on the new shade, Jess! 🙂
