The Spring Season: Chanel Santal Rouge Allure Laque

Chanel Santal Rouge Allure Laque ($32.00) is a glossy, shimmering shade of champagne-peach. This is one of two ultra-wearable shades of Rouge Allure Laque (the other being Ming). This is probably the one I reach for the most, because it’s particularly flattering on my warm skin tone. I love that it stays on for a good five or six hours, with the glossiness fading after two or three, but the color still lingering. I will say that it’s not quite as long-lasting as the majority of the Rouge Allure Laques, though. I’m so glad they’re permanent, though, because this is the shade I’m most likely to finish!

Is this the right peach for you? Would you wear it?

The Spring Season is a series of posts featuring my favorite soft beige, coral, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for the first blossom of spring — that runs through March 2010.

I love this colour and I keep on trying to pick it up but keep on forgetting to factoring this in my budget. I have Ming and I love that for smokey eyes and more colourful looks, but I think Santal would be a wonderful everyday colour.

I have phoenix from this line of Chanel. I love it. I really want the coral one, but I can’t spend the money on that right now.

Christine (or anyone) know anything about Chanel’s foundations? I went and got matched a couple of days ago at Nordstroms. The lady said I had over dried skin and my pores were big and soaking up the foundation. I honestly don’t know what skin care would be best that doesn’t cost a fortune to help it. I thought I was taking care of my skin properly…Ugh

Anyhow she wouldn’t put vitalumiere on me, because she said it would be too shiny. Pro Lumiere didn’t have a shade for me (the lightest one was a bit too dark), so I ended up matching to the lightest shade of Mat Lumiere. Which I guess is fine, but wouldn’t mat finish not be too good to my dry skin? Since they didn’t have it in stock I got two samples and it will be mailed to me free of charge.

I just am wondering basically do Chanel shades run more neutral or on the warm side? It sucks because I really wanted pro lumiere to work out.

I did get their Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rose Petale. I know it was used on Keira Knightley in The Duchess, so I wanted to try it. The powder itself smells like Roses. I think it is so pretty.

Anyhow if anyone can help me out with at least one recommendation to help overly dry skin (plus any tips to keep it from getting so dry as I don’t over due it in the first place) and the foundation questions that would be great!

Thanks!
Jennifer

Oh and sorry to add this…Just in case I’m a NC20 in MAC if that will help with the foundation… Plus I’ve noticed I tend to have a light concealer like look on my under eye area without make up, and she mentioned that…

Thanks
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

I haven’t tried any of Chanel’s foundations, but I have heard good things. I would think that the Mat Lumiere would be too dry of a finish for you, though. I typically recommend satin or dewy finish foundations if you have particularly dry skin — I mean, if you have just slightly dry, matte finish might be fine.

Make sure you’re not over cleansing or stripping your skin (e.g. with a toner), as well as not over exfoliating. You also want to pick a moisturizer that isn’t too heavy or too light. I like to go with a heavier moisturizer at night so it can sink in and not worry about makeup on top or any “greasy” makeup feeling afterward.

Ok , thanks Christine.

I think next time I go to the drug store I’ll look into a different moisturizer for more dry skin… I only exfoliate once a week, and don’t use any toner… I do use various samples like Philosophy’s Purity to wash my face and take off my make up at the same time.
As for Chanel I have a good amount of sample of the foundation to try until I get the bottle in the mail (Since the didn’t have it in the store at the time)… I’m going to try it to make sure the slight burn feeling isn’t the foundation, but maybe these new make up remover wipes. And then I’ll try my other foundation Diorskin Nude which never gave me trouble and if it burns then maybe it is just my face and not the foundations… My Mac Studio Fix powder the other day didn’t burn my face , so hmm…. Ugh, I hate this! lol
Maybe if it is the Chanel, when I get the bottle I should go and get them to put the Vitalumiere or perhaps retry the Pro Lumiere again … If those bug my skin maybe just rebuy the dior or something else…
