Sneak Peek: MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection — Lipstick & Lipglass

To wrap up our sneak peek of the Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection, let’s take a look at Hold the Pose lipstick and New Spirit and On Display lipglasses.

Lipstick ($14.00)

  • Hold the Pose is a sheer plummy shade with soft golden shimmer and a bit of glossiness. It has a lustre finish, which is why I was expecting it to be sheer. It gives my lips a bit of a rosy plum look, but otherwise, it doesn’t add much to my lips.

  • Product: 7/10
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 8/10
  • Packaging: 8/10

Lipglass ($14.00)

  • New Spirit is a light orange-y coral with soft golden shimmer. I was reminded of a more orange version of Orangedescence lipglass (limited edition from quite awhilea go). I liked it, and I liked the way it gave my lips a brighter look and the shimmer was noticeable.
  • On Display is a stunning deep burgundy-wine with gold shimmer. This one is absolutely stunning both swatched and on the lips. I haven’t been this pulled by a lip color by MAC in what feels like way too long. I like this one so much I’m considering a back up…

  • Product: 9/10
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 8/10
  • Packaging: 8/10
  • Overall: 8/10

Recommendation: If you’re a fan of lustre finish lipsticks, Hold the Pose isn’t a bad choice. The gold shimmer keeps it from being too muted, but the color is very work appropriate, too. Since I’m not a big fan of lustre lipsticks, it’s not a must for me. I do love both of the lipglasses I tried, so now I’m eager to check out the other two from the launch. I definitely recommend everyone check out On Display!

Availability: MACCosmetics.com (August 20th), MAC stores

  1. I like lustres, but this colour seems a little bland to me. The glosses however, are very pretty.

On Display is definitely getting a LOT of hype as being the best lipglass in this collection. The most “opaque” lipglass we’ve seen in awhile. I hear Young Thing lipglass is pretty much just a dupe for C-Thru or Underage so I’m glad there is really only one lipglass I need to zero in on. Thanks so much Christine for providing all this info!

On display is amazing. I was going to pass it up until I swatched it. Gorgeous.

I’m in love with on display. I’ll definitely check that one out.

  5. DevilishDoll

Wow, I’m really loving On Display. I want about 75% of this collection.

  6. Dancerwendy

I actually love lip sticks that are on the sheer side, and Hold The Pose looks really interesting! New Spirit lipglass could work as well;)

  7. glitter princess

loving the effect of slight sparkle in Hold the Pose l/s but as its very sheer think im going to skip this !but after seeing ur swatch for On Display im totally loving it althgouth it seems a similar colour has been released is this similar to the style warrior gloss or and gloss from the colour craft!???

Cheers for all the swatchs christine! much appreciated as always! :)

On Display looks lovely! I didn’t think I would get any lipglasses from this collection, but now I may go for that one.

  9. These are all lovely. Might need to check them out in person.

Very nice. Thanks, Christine. I think I need On Display…it reminds me a bit of Pop Mode :-)

  11. I Love New Spirit so much. Hold that pose is really pretty too. Ill be picking those two up for sure.

  12. Hold the Pose reminds me of the pre-released version of that dark Style Warriors lipstick?! (I forgot the name now..) I think I may pick this up! :D

Hi Christine! Would you say New Spirit is a dupe of Queen Bee from the Naked Honey collection? I loooove Queen Bee, so New Spirit is definitely up my alley, but if it’s too similar then I can skip it.

  14. Rita

Now I’m going to get On Display! Is New Spirit similar to Queen Bee – which one is better?

I’m also a big fan of lustres. Hold the Pose looks like one I would definitely add to my collection! I try to wear lipstick to moisturize and protect but I’m a chapstick kinda girl…so lustres work out well!!!

Do you think On Display will look good on a NC30 olive gal?

  17. Megan!

Do you think that MAC’s “Red Lipstick” and “On Display Lipglass” would mix well?

I am thinking that it might make the red a bit more berry and darken it up.

    Any thoughts?

Omg… New Spirit looks like it would look really nice over myth… i really want to try it now hehe :)

Is Hold The Pose lipstick a duplicate or similar to Naked Paris L/S from the Euristocratics II collection?
