MAC Me Over Eyeshadow
MAC Moleskin Eyeshadow

MAC Me Over: Eyeshadows

There are six shades of MAC Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) launched with MAC Me Over. They include: Carbonized (frosty dark brown), Creamy Bisque (mid-tone ivory with pearlized pigments), Moleskin (nude brown), Mythical (frosty copper red), Outre (mid-tone mustard), and Satin Taupe (taupe with silver shimmer).

  • Carbonized is a rich chocolate brown with bronze shimmer. The color payoff is lovely with a really soft and smooth texture. This shade has a veluxe pearl finish (so it is only 0.04 oz.). Urban Decay Lost is a bit similar, but it has a more reflective sheen and appears lighter, which is the same reason why Inglot #422 is not a dupe.  It’s similar to MAC Centre Stage but with less shimmer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone is less brown.
  • Creamy Bisque is a soft, creamy ivory with a pink tint. The finish has a pearly sheen. The pigmentation is pretty good, and I can see this being a go-to highlighter for some. This shade has a frost finish. MAC Blanc Type is more beige. It’s more like a less frosted Phloof!
  • Moleskin is a softened, medium brown with a subtle, caramel warmth. This shade has a matte finish. It feels more like a satin to me, though–it has the same texture and, to some degree, the finish. It has good color payoff. It is a touch warmer than Urban Decay Naked but similar, though Naked has a softer formula. Inglot #337 is similar but has a redder base.
  • Mythical is a coppery brown with a metallic shimmer-sheen. This shade has a veluxe pearl finish (so it is only 0.04 oz.). The pigmentation is good, but the color itself has a faded quality to it, and the texture is smooth and soft. It is lighter than theBalm Racy Kacy, less brown and red-tinted compared to MAC Faux Gold. It’s also a muted version of Coppering.
  • Outre is a mustard-y brown–it has this mustard yellow tinge to it. This shade has a matte finish. It has a soft, smooth texture with lovely color payoff. It is reminiscent of MAC Ochre Style, which had shimmer in it. Double Feature 4 is muddier–it is grayer and browner. It’s darker and more yellowed than MAC Bamboo.
  • Satin Taupe is a dark taupe with a hint of burgundy and a frosted finish. This shade has a frost finish, and it is part of the permanent range. It is similar to Bare Escentuals Meteorite.

The four I’ve tested so far are good.  The texture of both Mythical and Satin Taupe are excellent, but the color payoff is good across the board.  I think Moleskin, despite its demure manner, will be one that many will look to grab when it launches, because of its similarity to the famous Urban Decay Naked–consider it a sleeper hit.  I know Outre will look awful on me, but it has that so-ugly-it’s-pretty kind of appeal.

MAC Me Over is a 51-piece collection for fall, which will launch in North America on August 25th, 2011 and internationally in September 2011. It will launch online approximately August 23rd but there is no concrete online launch date. All products–unless otherwise noted–are limited edition.

Where to Buy: MAC Cosmetics, $15 each

The Glossover

A-

The single eyeshadows definitely have a theme: neutral. They are more universally wearable, subtler, and generally more versatile as a whole. They will work well together or paired with existing shades in your stash.

Christine, did you try Outre on yourself? I had the same hesitation as you did we have same coloring but suprisingly it looked good!

Hi Christine, I read through all the comments and your responses and wow... you sure are patient! I have a question that has not yet been asked :) You responded to someone saying that Wedge and Moleskin are similar in colour. What are they like to work with? -- i.e. Is one better/easier to blend with than the other? Finally, am I correct in thinking that Moleskin is matte? Thanks for your time!

They're both pretty easy to work with but I'd say Moleskin is slightly easier but really not by much. It's listed as a matte but felt more like a satin to me. HTH!

Hi Christine ! Is Moleskin similar to Kid?

how do i know which ones are permanent or limited edition?

The shades that are permanent are marked as permanent.

Hi Christine, Do you think MAC Mythical Eyeshadow is very similar to MAC Expensive Pink?

hi there, does anyone here have brown eyes, dark hair, medium tan and uses Mythical? that color has not landed in our shores yet, and I'm curious if it goes well with my tanned skin. it looks gorgeous on green eyed ladies though, at least based on the googled photos. i fear that it might give that "just cried" look on a BB 4.25 skin tone. any feedback will be much appreciated, thanks!

Mythical looks beautiful (more bronze than red) on my warm tanned skin & brown eyes

Christine-how does mythical compare to mythology? They seem similar and I have mythology so I'd hate to buy something similar.

Do you think Mythical would look good on blue eyes (Blond hair, fair skin), Christine?

After buying Mythical and bring it home, I discovered it is very similard to Reward Yourself from the big bounce line

why do veluxe pearl shades contain less product than eyeshadows with different finishes? :)

Probably because it's filled more by volume than weight, and the materials they use for veluxe pearls take up the same volume (like they fill the whole pan) but weigh less.

do they have these in the pro pan refill form?

No, limited edition shades only come in pots.

How does Dazzlelight compare to Creamy Bisque?

Not as beige - lighter

Does creamy bisque compare at all to virgin from the UD Naked pallette - I ran out of mine and am looking for a dupe.

Christine, does moleskin feel chalky to you?

i want carbonized.. reminds me of Galapagos by NARS with warmer sparkle, and darkhorse slash smog from the naked palette! what are your thoughts?

Both of those are lighter and much warmer, so they end up looking very different to me.

hi christine, how does moleskin compare to modelette? thanks!

Modelette is lighter, warmer, and has gold shimmer.

I like Outre, but I have no idea how I can use it with my pale skin and blue eyes...

its from the permanate collection lol

I love Moleskin! I really want to wear it in the crease, maybe paired with All That Glitters on the lid, and Blanc Type as a highlight, keeping it simple, neutral, and soft. Such a beautiful collection! I like the look of Carbonized too. I'm glad its not a frost, I prefer veluxe pearl, satin, and matte finishes for my everyday looks :)

I like Carbonized--think that one is a must-have from this collection.

Christine, is Mythical eyeshadow comparable to Mythology? It looks like it in the picture....? Thanks. :)

It's a bit less orange, but they're similar.

Hi Christine! I'm a Mac Pro member, and have been waiting for Mac Me Over to pop up on the pro site since Thursday (as usual), but nothing! I just recently called Mac Pro and they're telling me it's not coming out on the pro site or regular site until September; that it's launching in stores first this time. Have you heard of this? (I thought one of the perks of being a pro member, was that you got to purchase products ahead of time.) I'm a little disappointed.

I haven't heard this, but I did check with MAC last week (late last week) and they said it was coming out on August 25th & there were no delays. I purchased all of the remaining products (whatever I didn't receive from MAC PR) from the SF PRO store - they launched it as far as I know last week on Thursday like PRO stores were supposed to... It would be an interesting move, no? Perhaps forcing people to see products and be more persuaded by that than buying online - though I swear I make more impulse buys online!

How does moleskin compare to modellete eyeshadow which was limited edition....I'm looking for one similar to that?

Modelette is lighter, warmer, and has gold shimmer.

teehee. That was exactly the first question that popped in my mind as well! Thanks for answering Christine!

Christine, Thanks for adding the other colors! Is Carbonized a bit like Mulch?

Mulch is lighter, warmer.

Satin taupe and carbonized are gorgeous!! I can totally see them suiting my NC40 skin tone! I've been lusting after Satin Taupe since ages, high time I go and buy it now!

Moleskin.. Just the name disgusts me enough not to look twice. None of these really stood out to be tbh.

Is the Moleskin eyeshadow similar to MAC Wedge eyeshadow? Or is it closer to Soft brown? I'm looking for soft brown from MAC but cannot find it in my country :( Maybe Moleskin is a good dupe?

Closer to Wedge, not quite as red-toned as Soft Brown.

Really loving the look of Carbonized! What a gorgeous chocolate brown.
