YSL Rosy Contouring (2) Couture Contouring Palette

YSL Rosy Contouring (2) Couture Contouring Palette ($47.00 for 0.24 oz.) contains two powders–one for contouring, one for highlighting–in a slim, gold-hued (plastic) palette. The contouring shade is slightly larger in size compared to the highlighting shade. Like the Golden Contouring (1) Palette, I suspect this will be better suited and show more nicely on fairer complexions. The quality of this palette, however, is lower as the texture of the Contour shade is firmer and has less payoff while being harder to diffuse.

Rosy Contouring Contour is a muted, medium-dark rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff, which was somewhat buildable, so this is going to be a product that is better suited for someone who likes sheerer coverage overall. The texture was firmer, a little stiffer to work with, which was likely part of why the pigmentation was lower. It lasted well on the skin for seven and a half hours on me. NARS Contour (PiP, ) is warmer (90% similar). Inglot #504 (P, $15.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Colour Pop Aphrodisiac (P, $8.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). NARS Paloma Contour (PiP, ) is darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Rosy Contouring Highlight is a very light beige with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a lightly dusty consistency that blended well. Despite the dustiness, it didn’t emphasize my skin’s texture or appear dry or powdery applied to my skin. This shade seemed to wear for eight hours, but on my skin tone, it was hard to determine as it doesn’t register easily. YSL Golden Contouring Highlight (PiP, ) is more shimmery, warmer (95% similar). MAC Hot Sensation (LE, $22.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Tarte Highlight (Tarteist) (LE, ) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Hourglass Incandescent Strobe Light (P, $40.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Chanel Jardin de Camelias (LE, $70.00) is warmer (90% similar). NYX Soft Light (P, $5.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). NARS Paloma Highlight (PiP, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). NARS Highlight (PiP, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Kat Von D Lucid (PiP, ) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Hm, I have the Paloma Contour and Highlight palette, but I like the rosy-ness of this contour powder. I might check out the Inglot one, it’s a more affordable option. I think it would be also nice for a bearly there blush, or in combination with another shade of blush. Thanks!

How did you find the pan shapes? They look pretty small and narrow – is it harder to get your brush in there like the Hourglass Ambient Edit palette?

I didn’t notice any issues with the pan size! I think the separation between them makes it less important, since you don’t have to worry about getting them mixed.

This reminds me a bit of Olympia (?) by NARS for the contouring blush kit. I think it’s pinker and with a little more pigmentation.

Two contour/highlight duos, and both are only useful for Lt.-Med. or fairer skintones. Wow, YSL, just wow. ?

Gotta say, though, that I love the makeup look you did here! Very pretty soft rosy look! So perhaps YSL did a decent job on this collection’s eye quint? Very interested to find out!

So bizarre, IMO. Designer brands, including YSL, are getting marginally better at being more inclusive in foundations but often still look stunted elsewhere.

You’ve made me want Lolita again. I got the more terracotta one when I ordered a while back. Worth ordering the proper shade now. Again, strange that they made these so pale and warm/cool as opposed to maybe a more medium warm/cool. That way you could have just used less on lighter skin tones and more on deeper skins? Anyway, that’s just one of many things that I find perplexing about people who do the npd for makeup launches??

I like both, but I can see why the original was so coveted (and why so many were ANGRY! at the change).

I do agree – if you are only going to put out a very limited range, something in the middle is going to cover lighter and darker better than just light.

In theory this looked like a really good option, but being YSL and therefor not that affordable it must get A or A+ for me to even consider buying.
I’ll join in and compliment you on your look in the photos. Flawless and gorgeous. I want the lipstick more than the contouring palette πŸ™‚

I think there are other contours/highlighters out there that are better for sure, and you can get them for less, of course!
