YSL Rose Nu, Rose Blazer, Plum Tunique Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Sticks Reviews & Swatches
Rose Nu (88)
YSL Rose Nu (88) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium pink with warm undertones and a natural sheen. The lipstick yielded medium color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly and didn’t settle into or emphasize my lip lines, despite being a creamier, more emollient formula. It felt lightweight and was comfortable to apply and to wear as it felt like a balm-lipstick hybrid. It lasted well for four hours and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.11 oz. - $345.45 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "deeply hydrating" and "melt" onto the lips with a "pop of color" and give long-term hydration. It is described as having "medium coverage" and "irreverent shine." The color coverage was typically medium, as described, though some of the deeper shades were more buildable to semi-opaque coverage.
They're a very, very creamy, emollient formula; they slip-slide as they melt against the lips during application, and it feels luxurious to apply but can be easily over-applied. It's just the type of texture that lends itself to over-application without adding more coverage, so I recommend being mindful in order to ensure you'll get plenty of usage out of each tube. Fortunately, once on, they don't feel thick or overly slippery, so it doesn't feel like the lipstick is constantly moving while worn.
They have a high-shine, almost glossy, finish that often smoothed out my lip lines without settling into them, and the latter made it more impressive due to the amount of color and slip. The wear time varied from shade to shade but typically landed between three and five hours. Some shades leave a faint stain behind--usually the mid-tone and darker hues. The formula has a sweet, mango scent but no discernible taste.

Rose Blazer (89)
YSL Rose Blazer (89) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had medium pigmentation that applied well to my lips with a smooth, even application that minimized the appearance of my lip lines and natural texture. The lipstick had a creamy, balm-like texture that was lightweight and thin without being clingy. It stayed on well for four and a half hours and was moisturizing while worn.

Plum Tunique (90)
YSL Plum Tunique (90) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with subtle, cool undertones and barely-there pearl. It had medium color coverage in a single layer, which was as described, that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging. The texture felt lightweight, emollient but not slippery, and comfortable to wear. I was most impressed by how it seemed to camouflage most of my lip lines and didn’t settle into them. It wore well for four and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and was hydrating over time.

These are the shades that were calling out to me when I saw the initial swatches, but I am pleased to see that I have good dupes of each of them. So I can breathe a sigh of relief that my no-buy resolution is still in no danger of being scrapped.
Christine- how do these compare to the L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine Lip Stick/Balm? Is this the same concept albeit in luxury territory?
They’re definitely similar! The Rouge Volupte Shines feel more emollient, have a bit more shine, but they have a similar look and feel overall.
I’ve been on the fence about whether to get Plum Tunique. I’m an absolute die-hard fan of this formula, and you know what? I don’t own a single close dupe. I’m really digging the slight pearl. What a great color for cooler weather, too (and I’m in New England so plenty of cold weather to come, still). Snuggly sweaters and plum lipsticks = YES.
The only thing I could think of is if you have a plummy shade that you could add a little gloss to (pearl and shine) then you might be able to dupe it with what you have but with two products 😉
I’ve loved all the shades of this range. It’s my favourite finish, too bad I react badly to make-up with silicone :/
This trio of shades of the Oil In Stick shades is my favorite! Every last one of them is a winner. If I do buy one, it would likely be Rose Blazer, as I really love the face brightening effect it has without being a heavy looking formula. It’s a gem!
These are super pretty! I’ll have to check them out in store though. Last time I bought a YSL lipstick I had to return it because the scent was overpowering 🙁
Beautiful shades and they look really lovely. But I guess it’s the price that is off putting – they are so expensive.
This is where the danger of breaking my low buying for this year is in danger of running off the rails. These are my favorite shades in a formula that I love. I could see myself picking up all three and in the past I definitely would have. For now I am going to try and resist. If I got one it would be Rose Blazer.
I’m not a huge fan of sheer balms, especially hight end, but so many of this line are winning me over. All three of these are beauty.
I feel like these are a good balance of some color with the balm-like feel, so it’s not like 10 shades that look the same on!
I’m surprised you understood what I wrote! OMG, stress and lack of sleep are catching up on me.
I agree, the colors are distinct from one another. They manage to keep from looking too waxy, or too oily, or to glossy. They have a really nice finish.
GREAT – I now have THREE of these on my wishlist (Rouge Cape, Red Cassandre and Rose Blazer (how can I not love a shade that has both MAC’s Craving and Capricious as dupes?) though I may start out with just Red Cassandre (these are pretty spendy in The Land of Snow and Ice).
Is the formula similar to anything else out there?
Any of the balm-lipstick hybrids out there will have a similar feel/effect – L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine (less slippery, not quite as hydrating; they have similar medium-level coverage but the formula is actually supposed to have “rich color payoff”), bareMinerals Gen Nude Radiant (a little too slippery), Tom Ford Lip Color Sheers (less balm-like), Revlon Super Lustrous (not as “juicy” to me).
YSL’s is particularly slippery initially but doesn’t stay that way for long, and they have a slightly more consistent, more even coverage level than the average version from my experience.
