YSL Indie Jaspe Couture Palette
YSL Indie Jaspe Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.18 oz.) contains five shades in warmer gold, peach, two greens, and then a cooler silver sparkle. The eyeshadow formula is supposed to have “intense color” that is “long-wearing and crease-proof” — to the tune of “12-hour hold.” This formula runs dusty/powdery, so there’s a dryness that just don’t work well on bare skin as the eyeshadows tended to sheer out and fade quickly.
Indie Jaspe #1 is a light, peachy orange with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was soft and finely-milled, but it was dusty and prone to sheering out. It started to fade after seven hours on me (not even close to 12-hours!).

Indie Jaspe #2 is a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a soft, dusty texture that sheered out easily with some fall out. Indie Jaspe #3 is a sparkling silver. It is more like a loose glitter/sparkle than an eyeshadow, as none of it sticks well to skin–I had a ton of fall out within a couple of hours of wearing this–and it’s better patted over a tacky base or glitter adhesive, though it was impossible to make opaque for me. BH Cosmetics Club Tropicana #11 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Sugar High (LE, $20.00) is darker, less pigmented, warmer (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Tinsel (LE, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Revolt (DC, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Black Oyster (Eye Color) (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Lilac Dream #2 (PiP, ) is brighter (90% similar). Coloured Raine Diamond Jubilee (LE, $6.99) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Indie Jaspe #4 is a muted, dark olive green with warm undertones and a soft, satin shimmer finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, finely-milled texture that was just a smidgen dusty. The color wore well for eight hours on me before fading. Tom Ford Beauty Last Dance #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Hot Box (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Dior Emerald #5 (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #2 (DC, ) is less shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Indie Jaspe #5 is a pale, minty green with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture that was a little dusty. It sheered out on the lid, unfortunately, and it didn’t adhere well to bare skin–really needed a good, tacky primer to shine. It lasted for six hours. NARS Zambezi (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Cle de Peau Harmony (Right) (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Makeup Geek Abracadabra (P, $12.00) is darker (95% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Zoe (P, $8.00) is lighter (90% similar). Buxom Room Service (P, $12.00) is brighter (90% similar). Sydney Grace Green Mist (P, $6.25) is lighter (90% similar). I swatched this in store, and couldn’t get much pigment, wasn’t impressed. IDK, have never been impressed by YSL shadows. It’s a shame though because the color combo is perfect for spring, will have to re-create it from my existing stash.
At least it inspired you 🙂
It’s so disappointing with something has such beautiful packaging, but the product sucks.
The YSL formula is pretty soft, though usually better than this, and they always look better in the palette than on (even when they aren’t bad, they somehow run together on the lid for me).
Yes! I almost never return makeup, but the YSL palette I bought last year… I just… I couldn’t, man. It just got SO muddy on me. And what’s the point in having a palette of you can’t combine the shadows?
I wanted to get it because of the packaging but I’m glad I didn’t. The color payoff looks bad 🙁
Definitely not a palette for anyone who wants really intense color!
Yikes Christine! I think you got a bad palette or something. Boho Stones is gorgeous on me and is one of my current favs. Of course I never wear shadow without primer so that may be the difference. The shades didn’t last 12 hours but they lasted between 8 and 10 depending on the shade.
I have six or seven of YSL’s eyeshadow palettes (of this formula), and this one is one of the worst, but I’m not a big fan of the formula. They fade too quickly/are prone to sheering out for me!
I don’t normally care for the formula either – all my other YSL palettes were given away! I took a chance with this one bc I really liked the shade combination. It works for me so maybe I just got lucky. I considered the Chinese New Year one but didn’t pull the trigger. Do you have that one?
No, I don’t, sorry!
I get along well with my YSL 5 color palettes ! I own at least five and enjoy them. But I haven’t brought any recently and not feeling this color scheme anyway.
Which ones are your favorites, Denise?
Ombres 5 Lumieres ,5 Colour Harmony for eyes . They are numbered no names 🙁 . Purple #4, Blue #5, Green#6. I also have a golden/brown one that I like !
Thank you!!
Well, here we go again! $60 for 5 shades of easily duped, dollar store quality eyeshadows. I just find these subpar performing, Lux end eyeshadow palettes to be an absolute insult to our intelligence. It’s sad really.
That center shade just baffles me!
I did a gradient with mine. I used the lightest shade as base, the light green shade on the inner half of my lid, the silver shade on the outer half of my lid, the dark green as contour and liner with the peach as highlight on the very inner corners. I added the Marc Jacobs Peridot on my lower lash line to brighten it up. It made for a really pretty eye.
Me too, Christine! A green, peach and gold theme with a disco ball silver glitter? Just bizarre!
Haha Nancy!!! I love your saucy comments!! ?
I agree, Nancy, it’s slightly sickening. It’s as if they think that a beautiful looking palette means they can get away with a sub-par performance. Not impressed.
That #3 shade had so much potential 🙁
If only!
These colors and that compact are soooo beautiful! I love gorgeous packaging. I’d love to find these shades in a creaseless cream shadow 🙂
There’s an idea 🙂
That olive shade is lovely. But the quint is so sub par overall.
It is a nice combo!
which liner are you wearing on your lower eye? It’s very pretty!
I don’t remember, sorry! Possibly Sephora Good Mood or something like it.
Why are the high end quads/ quintets always pretty bad?….Like really always…. Chanel, dior, etc
Everyone always tell me it’s because people who buy these brands only want sheer color, though brands don’t portray them that way.
Oh dear, just like the Chanel offering – really poor quality for such an expensive price. The only decent colour was the khaki green….. Even on your eyelids Christine, the shadows were barely discernible.
Yep! They just run together 🙁
Not impressed. Can barely tell you are wearing shadow and I know it’s the product, not the model.
They really run together 🙁
It never fails to amaze me that high end luxury companies can produce amazing lipstick time and again, but ALWAYS seem to produce crap eyeshadows. I just don’t get it. They know how to make good stuff. They’ve all done it at least once!!!! UGHHHHH. Anyway, this is so pretty I want to buy it just to collect. But in reality I’ll probably spend money on products that actually work well and I can use.
BTW Christine, have you heard of the brand Strobe Cosmetics? They’re a new-ish indie brand with FANTASTIC eyeshadow. They have all shimmer/satin/metallic right now but they’re coming out with duochrome and MATTES soon! I’m dying to try them. You should check them out!
Sorry, I haven’t heard of them, and I’m not currently planning to try any new indie brands at this time — too much drama.
The packaging is lovely. Spring has a habit of suckering me into pale greens for some unknown reason and then I never wear them. This one is an easy pass.
I wish this one came together better – I like the combo in theory!
I was considering buying this for a while and then opted out. I’m so glad I didn’t get it now. Ugh though, how can they put such a bad product in such pretty packaging?
I don’t know! 🙁
This would be an interesting color combination for spring/summer, if only the shades performed well!
If only!
The packaging is absolutely beautiful but those ratings are just not acceptable 🙁
I agree 🙁
What eyeliner are you wearing? Looks great!
I don’t remember!
…silver isn’t that hard, that’s kinda weird.
Shame about the product, the compact it’s in is lovely.
I’ll never understand why loosely pressed glitter is a thing in these types of palettes.
Ugh, it’s a shame that the formula doesn’t measure up to the cool packaging and color combo. 🙁
It is!
And this is why I stay away from YSL. I love the packaging, and I like the look of the palette, but I’m not a fan of invisible eyeshadows (when they are supposed to have colour 🙂 ).
They will probably sell out as there seems to be a lot of people who like super sheer eyeshadows.
No? You don’t want to pay $60 for something you can’t see? ;P
The shades didn’t tempt me anyway (although the compact cover is pretty!), but disappointing performance nonetheless. I usually like the YSL quints.
The compact’s packaging IS stunning!
