YSL Fuchsia Desinvolte (01) Baby Doll Kiss and Blush Review, Photos, Swatches
YSL Fuchsia Desinvolte (01) Baby Doll Kiss and Blush
Earlier this month, YSL offered an early debut of two shades of the YSL Baby Doll Kiss and Blush ($40.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) range, and I bought both shades that were available. They’ve since released twelve shades, though they say online exclusive at the moment. The official release date is later on in April. Â I’ll be reviewing both shades I bought, and this is the first one up!
YSL Fuchsia Desinvolte (01) Baby Doll Kiss and Blush ($40.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium fuchsia with cool, blue undertones. Milani Love Potion (07) (LE, $7.99) is a powder, lighter. Clinique Berry Pop (03) (P, $21.00) is a powder, slightly warmer. NARS Coeur Battant (LE, $29.00) is a powder, brighter. Tom Ford Beauty Narcissist (LE, $55.00) is a powder, more shimmery. See comparison swatches. (Here are some possible dupes for this shade as a lip color.
The new formula is supposed to work on cheeks and lips, and the texture is described as an “air whipped mousse” and has a “soft matte finish.” Â The color is supposed to be buildable. Â Now, I’m often unimpressed by two-in-one products, because it usually doesn’t excel in both areas, just one (or worst case scenario, neither), but YSL has something special here. It’s packaged in a square, glass bottle with a long, cylindrical cap, so it looks nail polish-esque, but when you twist and open, it is a little reminiscent of the Glossy Stains. Â The applicator is tapered and spongy with a fair amount of give without being floppy.
The texture was very, very different from Glossy Stains as it never turns thick. Instead, the consistency is thin and felt like a cross between velvet and gel, and it turns into a creamy powder as it blends with the skin and dries to a satin-matte finish. On lips, it stayed rather glossy before eventually wearing down, but I waited before shooting the lip swatch photos, expecting it to dry fairly matte, yet it didn’t. Â I felt like I had a workable amount of time to apply and blend the color as a blush, and once it’s on, it stayed on for nine hours. It was easy to pat and blend on the skin, whether bare or over foundation, and though it’s quite pigmented and a little goes a long way, it was very forgiving.
This shade seemed to stain my cheeks slightly, as there was some pinkness even after I removed the color, and it did the same on lips (but a little more staining). When I wore it as a lip color, it lasted well for six and a half hours. More surprising was that my lips weren’t dried out–I wouldn’t describe this as hydrating really, but it kept my lips feeling about the same over time. It does have a sweet, mango and grape scent (reminds me of Glossy Stains), though it seemed subtler than some of their other lipstick formulas (like Rouge Volupte).

Its so rare to see a lip/cheek multitasking product perform equally well as blush and lip color! Love the color!
It is!! I was very surpriseed.
WOW. I always love the idea of two-uses-in-one products, but it’s really hard to find a formula that excels at both. This product looks to be something really, really special, and I much prefer the range of shades here than the really warm-toned Nars Matte Multiples. I’m just going to go ahead and add this to my ‘to-buy’ list.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts after trying, Larissa!
This seems like a great product, I like the packaging too. 🙂
I think it is!
This looks very interesting. Is this an LE product? Are there other shades? Do you know who would be carrying this in Toronto (Canada)? So many questions…i know.
Hi Helen,
I’ve linked to YSL’s website, which is where all the information about the shades is – I don’t have any additional information!
Christine, this looks fab on you! I was prepared to dislike this product – I never like two in one products on lips. This looks so fresh and pretty on you!
Thank you!
Christine, can you tell us how it compares to the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestros?
Maestros are less glossy, thicker, more silicone-like in feel.
♥ the pictures Christine!! And this stain looks really good! 🙂
xx
Thanks, Gauri!
sooo beautiful! definitely going to purchase this, even though i just purchased clinique’s berry pop blush. haha. lately, i’ve been really obsessed with bright lipsticks and blushes.
These should be right up your alley then! 🙂
The packaging of this is so unique! It looks beautiful!
It’s very nail polish-like!
OMG I freaking love this!
Yay!!
WOW! Beautiful color and it looks great on you!!!
Thanks, Karen!
Looks great and, of course, perfectly co-ordinated. Definitely will be giving this formula a try!
I look forward to hearing your thoughts 🙂
40 dollars? *jaw drops* Haha, I’ll be even more afraid of finishing this than I am of finishing my Glossy Stain, which I’ve finally come to terms with and started using! Even though the price of a lipstick plus blush is actually greater, this just feels more expensive, maybe because it’s forty at once. Do you think the product amount is fair, or is it less for a combined product?
Their powder blushes are $45, their regular cream blushes are $38, so $40 is really in line with the brand. 0.33 fl. oz. is more than a lipgloss (most are 0.20 fl. oz. or less).
I seem like the hit the right note of colloid in this formula to allow the pigment not to dry out on the lips but blend out to a matte flush of colour. 😉
Yes! It seems to deliver the best of both worlds.
Very pretty, I may have to try it.
Let us know if you end up testing it!
My God Christine, you look so so gorgeous..I can’t even describe how beautiful. . This lip color odd made for you. Bought this.
Aww, thank you Neha! Hope you love it!
Why. Why, Christine. WHY. I’m so in love with the Glossy Stains and it looks like these are going to be the love of my life! My wallet does not thank you 😛
Awwww! Few wallets thank me, though… so I am used to it 🙂
This is absolutely gorgeous! And it looks great as a blush, as well.
I really like how it works on both lips and cheeks!
That’s super pretty! But with my Rosacea I can’t use something that stains the cheeks.
Oh, that is too bad! I don’t know if they have some softer shades (not surprising to see a fuchsia cream stain) that won’t stain.
Beautiful! This is going on my To Buy list.
Yay!!
I’m not too sure about the packaging (heck, I thought it was a nail polish initially!) but I’m really intrigued by that lip/cheek claim! Particularly since it seems lightweight and looks amazing on the cheeks!
Haha! Yes, it does look a lot like a nail polish as far as packaging goes.
Looking forward to reviews of other colours – the formula looks fantastic
So far, so good!
The Fuchsia shade is so pretty … and after a long time seeing a multi-tasking product work so well in all areas! Thumbs up YSL.
I was sooo happy that I could actually wear it on lips and not feel like my lips were dying!
That’s what I have always noticed in most your Nars multiple’s reviews that they are dry on lips. I can’t wait for these YSL goodies to be launched in India.
that looks so pretty on you Christine! <3 I can't for them to be officially released so I can test them on in person!
oh just a question, what eyeliner are you using because it's gorgeous 😀
I can’t ^wait** for them (opps missing word lol)
Hi Maya!
It’s Sephora Snakeskin Dress! Just a heads up, I try to list what products I’m wearing under “The Makeup Look,” which will show up after the last photo in the post!
THE MAKEUP LOOK
On face: Guerlain Parure de Lumiere Foundation, Guerlain Les Voilettes Pressed Powder. On eyes: Sephora Snakeskin Dress Eyeliner.
This color isn’t for me but I can’t wait to see more about this product. I’m sure I will be trying this formula out, it’s just a matter of time.
With twelve shades, hopefully one intrigues you!
That colour is so beautiful.
I can’t handle it lol
LOL!
I love the packaging, and the formula sounds so great! I’m excited to try these, though I’ll probably wait until I can swatch in-store first.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts, Emi!
Looks very cool! YSL is coming out with so many interesting formulae – first the Glossy Stains, now this! I love my Glossy Stains, so I might check this product out!
You might like it! 🙂
I love this too! Like you, I bought the two shades but after one look at the orange will return it! Too much! But, also like you, I find most cheek/lip products are great for cheek but horrible on lips. So, since I like cream blushes I view them as such. You are so right! This works amazing on both cheeks and lips! It’s so pretty! And I’m not always thrilled with Fuchsia. And as a big matte fan I’m always happy to add something that leans in that direction. Mine never dried on my lips either but stayed creamy (different from the glossy stains).
Can’t wait to see the orange review..as I haven’t returned it yet!
Have you applied the orange at all or just in the bottle it seems too much?
I haven’t opened it. Just saw your review on the orange and will likely keep it (return postage costs more than I expected!). It looks less orange and a softer color then I expected. Thanks!
It’s more wearable than I expected, so hopefully you’ll find the same is true 🙂
Wow, how lovley! Such a stunning shade of fuchsia. Wonderful that it works so well both on lips and cheeks 🙂
I was over the moon as I wore it as a lip color and things were still good, lol!
Woah, I love that it really works well and looks great on both the cheeks AND lips!
Me too!!
This color is so pretty on your cheeks – I’m not sure I would love it on my lips – but it’s the perfect natural flush. How does the finish on the cheeks compare to the Chanel cream blushes?
They’re very similar in terms of finish – not 100% matte but not too dewy.
Oooh – that’s very intriguing as I haven’t invested in a Chanel creme blush. I like the idea of two in one. Now to find a color I like on both lips and cheeks enough for the price.
Wow, I’m loving this look!
Thank you!
Augh! That is stunning! Every time I see a YSL product pop up on here, I get palpitations – their stuff is soo good! They already make my HG bb cream, powder foundation and mascara…can’t wait till I’ve saved up enough to try their colour cosmetics, especially the lips stuff!
Three HGs? Wow! 🙂
I know – honestly, no-one was more surprised than me, just because up until a year or so ago I didn’t even really realise that YSL made makeup – I thought they were a brand of mens’ shirts, LOL!
How STUNNING is this???? Lips AND cheeks? I gotta get me some of this magic!
Right? I was impressed not to come out of it with dried out lips!
Does this product have oil in it? I would love to see an ingredient list.
Please check the photos above – there are photos of the box!
Wow! I just got this as a sample from sephora, might finally convince me to try a cheek stain.
I look forward to hearing how it works for you, LU!
Love this color! The packaging is so cute too! I need this in my life.
Hope you get a chance to check ’em out!
The packaging doesn’t look as grand and nice as usual YSL packaging :/ but the pigmentation is incredible! Lovely pink color, so so pretty
Sorry to hear you didn’t like the packaging!
Wow not only is the color beautiful but the formula sounds perfect! The packaging is very cute and different too. I need to check out this line asap!
Can’t wait for you to check it out!
This is really pretty! Is the texture like Nyx Matte Soft Lip Creme?
Very different!
Thanks for the review, this really is beautiful! I really want to buy off the YSL website right NOW haha but yours is the only good swatch I can find online! What is the other shade that you got?
Orange Fougueux!
What a stunning shade n concept 🙂
u look absolutely divine here xoxo
Thank you, Rashmi!
Well, having been well and truly converted to their glossy stains, I think I’m going to get drawn in by these as well. This looks just stunning. I can’t get over how beautiful and how different the texture looks on your cheeks and lips. Beautiful colour on you, by the way!
Thanks, Kate!
I was surprised by how nice it was!
Gorg on you!!! (Wait, that doesn’t sound quite right….)
Thanks, Lori!
Really pretty product on lips & cheek!
Agreed!
Ooooh, this looks very promising! Can’t wait to see what other shades they have. 😀
Fingers crossed there’s one you’ll like!
Aaaaaaand you just posted a review for one I love. XD That didn’t take long at all.
Sometimes I can be speedy 🙂 (And sometimes I am the tortoise.)
I’m going to join in and say I LOVE THIS!!! I even love the shade, though I can struggle to wear cooler toned colours with my summer skintone – I really want the Australian summer to END and the cooler weather to hurry up!! Want me to send some sun your way?!
Yess, please!!
What are ya doing to me Christine? :p I love my glossy stain and I picked up the Spring Meteorites pearls because I needed them in my life and on my face 😉 Now…I need this!!! I love that it does stain the lips…throw on some lip balm when it wears off and I’ll be good to go in a rush. Love the color 🙂
Sowwie!
It has such a beautiful shade. I’m hoping this won’t be LE product.
As far as I know, they are permanent!
oh, wow! I LOVE LOVE LOVE stains. I don’t really love the price of this but I may just have to bite the bullet and get myself at least one. I like the YSL lip stain/gloss I got a while back and this seems like it’s even a step up from that. It looks awesome. I’ll have to see the full color selection … of course I can rationalize the cost – it will be a birthday present to myself! (ha ha)
thanks for the review and photos and the heads up to watch for this stuff to be at Sephora pretty soon!
p.s. I clicked your link to the site and saw the colors . . . .omg how am I going to limit myself to just buying one? !?
It will be tough, lol!
No problem, Kelly! 🙂
LOVE THEM! Colour is amazing! When will they be available in Canada?? Must have!
April, I think!
Aww poo! Why couldn’t you have given this a bad review? Why does the colour have to look so pretty?? Now I’m going to have to add yet another thing to my ever growing list of must haves…..
Dangflabbit!
Sorryyy 😉
A lip/cheek product that isn’t terribly drying and awful on lips? WITCHCRAFT.
Haha! I was like, “Wait… no… this is really happening?”
Hi Christine, I recently purchased the Kiss and Blush in #8 and #4 and love them, and am so tempted to purchase more! I thought the fuschia color would look scary but I’m interested in this color after having seen it on you! (It looks beautiful on you.) Thanks so much for your detailed reviews on these, seeing your review influenced me to purchase the two shades I own :). Have a great weekend!
Update: I ended up purchasing this last night and I love it! It’s such a beautiful pop of color, perfect for spring/summer!
YAY!!!
So happy I could help, Carolyn! 🙂
