Strangely, it’s Thierry Mugler’s Angel. Weird because for years I didn’t like the fragrance – it reminded me strongly of the disinfectant/deodorizer that used to be used in the toilets of Greyhound buses…REALLY! Then one day, I was hugging my hair stylist (yes, really) and she smelled SO good. It was the end of her work day and she’d put Angel on in the early morning. She smelled so lovely that it was enough for me to go out and get a bottle. It STILL smells to me like Greyhound bus toilet deodorizer when I first put it on, but after about an hour, it just smells so soft and pretty. So, Angel and Maison Margiela By the Fireplace.

I’m not sure, Seraphine. I’ve had it for quite a few years so it might be an older version or the current one. I didn’t know TM had sold out to L’Oreal or that they’d messed with the fragrances. Why do companies DO this?

It happened about 3 years ago, and L’Oreal changed all the formulas. I still have my original bottle of Alien (just a little bit left). I compared it to the new one, and the new one smells like an inexpensive dupe of the original. They also discontinued Aura, which I love.

I hate that they mess with a beloved or successful product and basically ruin what made it special. I never know if it’s a matter of certain components no longer being available and having to be synthesized (things like civet and ambergris from perfume making way back) or it’s an attempt to be “clean” (ha! like that means anything at all) or if it’s just to cut costs (or perhaps all 3 and even more). But it’s just really sad when the happens.

Exceptional Because You Are by Exceptional Perfumes. I received a tester of it with an order I had made on Fragrance.net and just really liked it so I ordered a bottle. It is an Eau de Toilette Spray. I don’t really know anything about it but may have to look it up and see if it comes in other forms. Not sure why I haven’t done that yet!

Oh, my, Christine, I’m so glad you asked this question today. When my beloved late husband and I were still newly married I discovered Chantilly. I bought a set, and I LOVED it. It is a cherished fragrance and with good reason. While not for everyone, it will forever remind me of him, as I wore it for November all those years ago…<3

Gosh, I haven’t seen or smelled Chantilly in so many years. I am so sorry about your husband. Scent is a powerful memory holder. We never realize it until we experience it. There are certain scents that take me back to my Grandmother’s house. Not her kitchen or baking but rather the whole house. I never can identify exactly what it is but every time I smell it I am back visiting Grandma.

Is it ever a stimulus to memory. A few years ago, I smelled Grand Neroli from Atelier Cologne. When I was a kid….waaaay back in the late 50’s or early 60’s – my mom won a train case filled with Elizabeth Arden products (they were all packaged in peachy pink jars and the glass bottles had the same shade lids and the train case – it was dark green faux crocodile – was lined with the same peachy shade of satin fabric). Anyway, it was so gorgeous and elegant and luxurious looking and I remember so strongly how it smelled – just like that Grand Neroli fragrance!

I remember Chantilly when I was a teen and I think I may have actually seen it for sale within the past 5 or 10 years at Walmart, of all places. I’m sure it’s nothing like the original from back in the day!

Olympéa Solar by Pacco Rabanne. To me it smells like vanilla ice cream with an orange zest. It always puts a smile on my face (so necessary in a year’s end)

I’ve not used any perfume for real since summer. I swear chemo interferes with how scents work on the skin.
I did buy a sample set from Juliette Has A Gun, I really dislike the name, but I so wanted a new perfume, and it didn’t cost much. I’ve tried all the samples and I think they mostly don’t smell much or disappear far to quickly. That said, today I layered Pear Inc over Not a Perfume, and it smells rather nice, but don’t trust me on that as I have an annoying cold.
So with this brand it could be layering that’s needed, or it may work very differently after chemo is finished.
