We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I very rarely purchase lip balms, and mostly use vaseline from the tub. I also rub a small bit of face moisturizer on my lips when doing my night-time skincare routine.
A thick layer of whatever balm I’m currently using (Laneige chocolate right now). If I’m going to be out in the bitter wind for a long time then I’ll use something with a bit more heft and stick like Etude’s ginger sugar lip mask because that stuff is indestructible.
I love Sara Happ!…I have it in the pot and in the tube……I also love the PML lip fetish clear balm…it works really well before lipstick…also the Chanel clear lip balm is very good especially before lip colors as both of these set in for a nice base if you apply a few minutes before anything else. I live in the desert, and that along with the colder weather means extreemly dry skin and lips…I apply multiple times a day….
Laneige lip mask, Burt’s Bees, Jack Black and also Clarins Lip Balm (the one in the blue tube) – it looks like it’s now pink but the one I have is white and I’ve used it for years.
I have chronically chapped lips because I am a lip worrier and I live in a very cold, windy and dry place, during the winter which means I need serious lip protection. I use Nuxe Reve de Miel. It is getting harder and harder to find it here in the USA. I know that it isn’t every bodies cup of tea. It has been reported to me that it gets little hard particles in it but I think that happens when it gets old. I go through them fast enough that they don’t have time to crystalize. It also has a vaguely citrus smell which puts some people off. It also bothers some people’s tongue but again, I don’t experience that. It is quite thick and not overly emollient so it is still on my lips when I wake in the morning. I use it under some lipsticks. I always apply when driving because that is prime worrying time, LOL!
I probably should of mentioned that the reason I don’t use a lot of other lip balms, glosses or many of the other lip treatments available is that if it tastes good, I am just going to eat it off faster. I am not conscious of it but when I wear those types of products, I actually end up with more chapping than I would just going without anything on my lips.
I discovered that pretty early in my makeup wearing life. I just loved those Bonne Belle lip glosses and I think that was the first lip product I was allowed to have when my Dad relented and let me start wearing lite makeup. I smacked them on multiple times a day and would be so chapped that when I came home my lips were puffy, peeling and painful. I would have redness around my lips that looked like I had just been kissing for hours on end. Smacking reminds me of Lip Smackers. Weren’t they a thing back in the day? For that matter they could still be a thing. I do have some glosses that I wear for the shine on some lipsticks but not for a lip treatment or protection.
Ever since finding out by accident that using all the moisturizing products for my face on my lips too, then locking that in with my Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask has become a lip lifesaver! Especially with just how dry this climate tends to be, every little trick/hack for this purpose is welcome.
lip balm, anything emolient….. nut butters, lanolin…… switch it up
Good old fashioned Vaseline…first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and a tube of seasonal flavored Burt’s Bees.
Smith’s Rosebud Salve. That tin lasts forever.
Clinique has been my saving grace for moisturizing lip products for many years now. I like Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment during the day and Superbalm Lip Treatment at night.
Since Superbalm Lip Treatment has been out of stock for a while, Moisture Surge Lip Hydro-Plump Treatment has been fine taking its place. All the Clinique lip balms have been solid performers, tbh, so I just buy whatever’s in stock without too much worry.
I use a variety of lip balms all year round -Dermal’s Lip balm in the pot and Blistiks Intensive repair balm – which is a bit medicated for chapped lips. Both of them are really good.
Still loyal to By Terry Baume de Rose. Expensive but one tub lasts me a couple years and haven’t found anything as good at overnight healing despite trying many …
This thread got me thinking…..remembering that I still have a tube of BITE beauty Agave Lip Mask (y’know, the one that came in the impossible metal tube?) I dug it out last night and used it (I use a small metal cabling knitting needle to get it out rather than struggle with that stupid tube) and it is STILL there this morning and my lips fee great. So sad that BITE bit the dust.
Ah, I miss Bite lip products so much. At least the ones readily available to the public.
Uriage Xémose Moisturizing lip balm
Drinking lots of water and wearing lip balm or lip oil at home.
E.H.P. – egular (gentle) Exfoliation, Hydrating layers (NMF hydrator, HaruHaru black rice toner or Tatcha Dewy cream), Protected with an occlusive layer like my love, Laneige lip mask. And SPF during day! Preferably Colorscience SPF glosses. But I have been eyeing the new Suoergoop lipshade, MD Solar Science & Naked Sunday lip oils.
