We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! My favourite foundation(s), like most other makeup items, pre-date 2023 (things like the “old” formula of Dior Diorskin Forever foundation (which was reformulated, worse luck) and the fabulous, unparalleled Airflash. Gosh, I miss that wonderful stuff! I do want to try the Sephora Best Skin Ever foundation and concealer but not enough to venture into the store unless I’m getting something else…foundation shopping isn’t the fun it used to be (it’s always been challenging but it ain’t fun anymore).
I also meant (and then forgot) to wish everyone here who celebrates – whether secularly or religiously – Christmas a very merry Christmas and to everyone, a healthy and happy New Year!
Thank you Mariella for your excellent recommendation of IT Cosmetics CC Cream. It has turned out to be a winner and I never would have tried it without you commenting about it so many times on this blog.
And I hope that you, too had a wonderful Christmas, surrounded by your family – especially your little sweetheart of a grand daughter – who would have been right into all the Christmas festivities this year.
The Sephora Collection Best Skin Ever powder foundation became a favorite after the first use! Shade 04 is a great match, the sheer to medium coverage is easy to customize, it never looks heavy, cakey or mask-like and wears beautifully throughout the day without cracking. I also bought the concealer and it’s ok but I prefer full coverage with a natural finish and contrary to the description, coverage is more medium and not as hydrating as I need.
It is hard for me to pick just one since I use a three foundation concoction most days. If I had to choose between the three, (Chanel Water Fresh Tint, Chanel Complexion Touch and Chanel N01), I would likely pick the No1 simply because there are days when the Water Fresh doesn’t give me quite enough coverage and likewise the Complexion Touch . No1 gives more coverage but is still lighter and doesn’t cover everything or look like a mask.
MAC Face and Body. OG formula. Tried before it was reformulated and it is deserving of its hype! Also Chanel Fresh Water Tint and Maybelline Super Stay Skin Tint!
Because Fenty DC’d their Profilt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation, I was on the hunt for something similar to that one that had been HG status for me. I wound up testing a few generous samples from a few brands recently. The one that I did love and purchase was from Lancome, their Teint Idole Care & Glow foundation in shade 310. Perfect winter shade for me. Wears very well all day (the real test will be whether or not it can do so during the summer heat, but then I will need a deeper shade anyway). Looks like “my skin but perfected and evened out”. Luminous without looking greasy, oily or remotely shiny, just naturally glowing.
For summer, I do want to find a perfect match in the Haus Labs Triclone foundation, as I have heard that it is very long-wearing.
Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation in Porcelain.
I didn’t try any new foundations in 2023.
I’m shocked to say it’s the Hourglass skin tint. I’ve never liked a skin tint before, I apply it and set it with the hourglass loose powder and it somehow looks even more beautiful as it wears throughout the day.
Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin foundation. Because it is the 2nd foundation EVER that was a great shade match for my natural skintone+ undertone (medium complexion slightly on the lighter side of the medium spectrum) with (neutral) olive undertone.
I can’t wear shades with a warm olive undertone (to yellow/orangey) but also can’t wear cool olive (to grey) so it needs to be in percect balance not cool not warm but still needs alot of olive pigment in their.
*meant to say perfect balance nog percect (sorry) 😅
oooh what is the shade?
I have 3! Haus Labs, Tom Ford stick foundation and Estée Lauder Sheer Double Wear.
With so many recommending the Haus Labs – including you Pearl, well, I think I am just going to have to try it!
Heeee! It blends out beautifully (If it matters, I use a brush, not a sponge/blender – Bdellium Phase II 968), good undertone as well as depth selection and has a lovely, natural finish. Definitely worth a try 😃
Still MAC Prolongwear Waterproof Foundation… don’t even want to imagine it might be discontinued 😆
Also Haus Labs! I have literally neglected all my other foundations for that one on an almost daily basis, it is just perfect!!!
Estée Lauder Double Wear in Sand
I have written a few times in previous posts about my hunt for a new, great foundation – one that matches my porcelain skin tone with pink undertones, that offers medium plus coverage and blends easily.
I’ve had some duds in my journey (MUFE’s foundation -absolutely shocking – it separates after a few hours leaving a greasy look) and Maybelline’s Fit Me – way to sheer).
But the best has been Mariella’s preferred foundation – IT Cosmetics CC Cream in Porcelain. That is the absolute standout winner for 2023 for me.
To those who celebrate the Christmas tradition – I hope it was a lovely one for you.
Merry Christmas to you Christine and your family as well.
I really liked Pat McGrath Labs foundation. It seems to wear really well on my sometimes dry, sometimes oily skin, doesn’t lay in my pores or lines, and it does not oxidize.
Purchased 2023 – Sephora Collection Best Skin Ever power foundation
Older favorites – Lancome Dual Finish powder foundation, MAC Studio Fix Fluid, Missha Perfect Cover BB cream
Hi Christine.. what shade do you use in the Haus Labs foundation?
Christine, what color in Haus do you wear?
KVD Beauty Good Apple Balm (amazing buildable coverage, perfect shade match, skin-like finish), although I also love the Wet’n’Wild tinted moisturizer for lighter-coverage/dewy-finish days. And I love that the latter is $6.
This year, I came to terms with the fact that I’m an oily skinned girlie, and as such, I’ve started using more satin/matte foundations. My two faves, Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combo/Oily Skin and Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation (though the Revlon is my top fave).
Monika Blunder Beauty Blunder Cover (shade 2.25)
I am a Estee Lauder Double Wear girl. Since I found it in 2016, I have not bought anything else. It caters to every need I have. Besides, there isn’t many brands with shades for my weird yellow olive skintone. I usually have to mix shades and ELDW has 2 shades for me (4w2 and 4w4).
