What was the last product you bought a backup of?

For makeup, it was Urban Decay Perversion 24/7 Eyeliner. For skincare, it was Dr. Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass Cream,

Hi Christine,
So is it safe to assume that UD Perversion liner is your favorite black pencil liner? I love those but I still haven’t found any pencil liner that will stay on my waterline. Does that even exist??

The Fenty powder foundation (because it really is that good and powder foundations are wonderful in the summer), and a Tatcha Camellia Oil Cleanser. For some reason Sephora stopped stocking it, and when I asked why I got a non-answer from support. So I guess I’ll purchase directly from the source!

Did you get them from Sephora? 😅 I had multiple instances were I got from them products with old batch codes. I know they reuse the codes after some years… but a product manufactures 3-5 years ago that is clearly dried out is definitely old. Worse thing was a Too Faced foundation manufactured 5 years before I received it that was so old it wouldn’t pump out.
It rarely happens though with purchases… most times the very old are the point perks and offers ones.

I have mostly given up buying backups but last year I bought a backup of Milani Conceal + Perfect Powder Foundation because it was being discontinued. Now I regret it because I want the Fenty powder foundation and I will not allow myself to get it until I have used up the Milani. This just strengthens my view that I will always be able to find something new. For skincare, I buy backups of sunscreen that I order from abroad but only one or two extra tubes because they do expire.

Becca undereye concealer–the one in the pot. Because it works, and it’s going away, and it replaced my last HG that disappeared (the MUFE undereye concealer formula from about 5 years ago). I guess when I’ve worked through my last Becca concealer, it will be time for me to find a new HG that will be discontinued in a year or so. 🙂

Very rarely buy backups of makeup, although I bought a backup of PMG’s MTHRSHP Subliminal Platinum Bronze when it was on sale (although I have so much eye makeup that I don’t know what I was thinking!) and I bought a ton of UD Primer Potion when they went back to a doe foot applicator that I’m just hitting the end of my stash on. I always have backups in skincare, for everything!

Not counting the Paula TM, MUR concealer. I like it better than RCC or KGD @50USD. Thank God. For s/c, I usually buy b/us by brand, multiple products. That’s efficient, esp if you have to use Yesstyle. The prices are often better than the US brand sites or Amazon for those products, and they have some exclusive to Asia products that I use.

How do you like the Cicapair and how do you use it? I have a mini, I’m trying to get to know it.

The last backup I bought was my mascara, I’ve been using the same one since the 80s and I order it from Clinique’s website because they never carry any brown varieties in store so I always pick up 2-3 at a time.

I bought a backup of Mac’s Berry Black Friday patentpolish (yeah, even though it’s old!) I love the color so much and I’ve never found anything like it. Also, I really hope Mac brings back patentpolishes at some point. It was a great product—it was somehow sheer and pigmented at the same time.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter (because all too soon, Becca will be no more!), Youth to the People facial cleanser, Sephora Cappuccino pencil liner (I think I have 2 or 3 backups and I hope they don’t dry out because when I looked online 2 weeks ago, all but 2 shades were GONE from the Canadian site; I sure hope they’re restocking soon or replacing with a similar product otherwise, it’s going to have to be UD or MUFE pencils for me and they are a lot pricier).

I like wash off cleansers and this one is clear, is effective but not harsh and whether there’s any truth to their claims or not (I doubt a lot of the claims of cosmetics and skin care companies), it seems more “clean” (that newest catchword), not heavily scented…it’s just nice and rinses away nicely too.

Helene Avatar

Sound like a product I’d like.
The “clean” part isn’t something I take much notice of, I sometime laugh when reading descriptions of clean products or of those that doesn’t contain, and then they list loads of things that aren’t in any skincare products. I know, I’m exaggerating, and trying to be sarcastic. Sorry no offence meant to anyone!
I’ll give this a try when I run out of cleansers.
Thank you, Mariella.

I feel much the same about all these “clean” claims. We live in a pretty dirty world and I don’t have a problem with chemicals in my cosmetics to help me get the dirt, grime, makeup, etc. off my face but it seems that everything now is becoming “clean” (and – just looking at what’s happened to UD’s products and to so many others that used to be good and now have been reformulated to be “clean” and “vegan” and heaven knows what else…well, it’s not always a good outcome). The YTTP products though, for the most part, seem sort of simple and not loaded up with a whole lot of stuff. The product of theirs that I like best is the Hydrate and Glow facial oil. It is just a lovely facial oil and – like most of their products – it seems fairly simple. Maybe that’s what appeals to me most about the brand – they don’t have 87 products, with new ones launching monthly and their skin care doesn’t involve 23 different products and steps.

Aren’t all my purchases back-ups? 😅
Last back-ups purchased was this week, the Moroccanoil treatments (best hair oil I have tried), since my current bottle is finishing soon.

For makeup I purchased from MAC the Prolongwear Concealer and the Blotting Powder last time they had a good sale; I usually just repurchase the same things, so buying back-ups during sales makes sense.

For skincare I got some back-ups from Paula’s Choice for my clay mask, other purchases were rotation products. But for bodycare I had to have back-ups for the summer of the body SPF and BHA body lotion (keep the skin protected and keep bumps away).

Actually, everything I bought this week is a “backup”.

Marc Jacobs lip gloss in Raspberry Beret. I’ve seen conflicting rumors about whether the beauty line is closing down and most of the dupes do not hit just the right color for me or the same level of coverage (too sheer or patchy).

Too Faced Diamond Fire highlighter. Impulse purchase I probably shouldn’t have made, but this is my favorite highlighter and seeing it on sale made me panic it was going away. It’s buildable and just has this pearly glowy luminescent quality whereas all of the dupes are just a little too metallic or stark looking and quite a few of them are LE or discontinued. I usually believe I can find a reasonable dupe for most things and have tried to get out of the backup game but I just haven’t found it for this one.

Fresh hydrating lip balms in Caramel, Mango, and Lemon. I just really like them. They’re on sale at Sephora I assume because Ulta is starting to carry Fresh (not sure if that means both with have it or it’s leaving Sephora entirely – I assumed the latter). And I know they will absolutely get used because lip balm is my life these days.

For skincare, I just bought backups of the Fenty moisturizer with SPF (I can take or leave the rest of her line – it’s good, but not astoundingly unique and I have stuff I like as much or better) but I do really like this product, whatever micellar water was on sale at the store (use it every morning, but forgot what brand I got this time), and I’m the reason you can’t find sunscreen at my local Trader Joe’s (in fairness…the shelf wasn’t full when I got there).

Nikki Avatar

I’ve heard that Marc Jacobs may be reformulating to go fully vegan and half-offing everything so they can restock with the new vegan formula? Fingers crossed that that’s the case!

Lisa Marie Avatar

For makeup, I got another MAC Capricious lipstick when they went on sale recently and it looked like the Lustre formula might be on the way out. For skincare, I got a backup bottle of Paula’s Choice Retinol & Bakuchiol serum because I never want to wait until I’m out. Now I’m wishing I’d kept the sample of Perversion liner I got recently! I gave it away because I just assumed it was nothing special.

Audrey Avatar

2 of Becca backlight priming filter since it’s a current hg and sadly the brand is going out of business the end of this year. I hope to find a dupe but at least there’s no rush because I’m stocked up for a while.

I just repurchased Solbar Zinc SPF 38. It’s my favorite warm weather sunscreen bc it’s comfortable to wear in dry or humid weather, is water-resistant, and can wear fine under makeup. I originally stopped buying bc I wanted a higher SPF and it wasn’t “reef-friendly” (and I like the water) but with the latest benzene contamination news, Solbar Zinc was on Valisure’s list of “not detected” for benzene. My other sunscreens have higher SPF and are all-mineral but have not yet been tested for benzene. I figured it would be nice to have at least one tube that I can feel confident wearing.

Erica Avatar

I don’t really do too many back ups since makeup is so hard to go through. However I do have a back up of ABH Modern Renaissance and MAC lipsticks Real Redhead and Amor Prohibido from their 1st Selena collection

Caroline Avatar

Becca Ultimate Lipstick Love in Tawny. This is perfect for work, and since Becca will be no more by the year’s end, I thought I’d better stock up.
