What is your most used lip color (of all-time)? Least used?
Guerlain Gems (almost finished one tube), Estee Lauder Naked Truth (down to a nub), or Urban Decay Rebel (have a couple of tubes in worn-down states). Least used for is… you know, a lot, since I don’t return to a lot of products more than a handful of times!
Undoubtedly MAC Touch lipstick. I’m on my third tube!
My top 3 most used are:
Bite Beauty Molasses
MAC Touch
MAC Polished Up
All with MAC Chestnut or Cork lip liner
I have two most used lip colors: Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Musk and Tom Ford Lip Color in Casablanca.
Least used: Bite Beauty Kale. Because I usually only wear it around Halloween, lol. But I do love it.
My guess is either MAC Plumful or MAC Syrup. At any given time in the past 10 years or so, I seem to have a worn-down tube of one or both. They are my Back-to-MAC free lipstick choices and I tend to alternate between them.
I wonder what will happen to Back To MAC during and after the pandemic… maybe they’ll allow shipping items like for Terracycle and give credits to get lipstick online for free?
MAC Viva Glam V, Hug Me or Velvet Teddy
Least used…so many. I have far too many and even when rotating, there are many I never use!
Velvet teddy was a makeup game changer for me. It was the first nude color that worked on me. Everything else, until then, made me look like a corpse. It’s a great color on pale skin, because it’s not too pale. I like kinda sexy too, but that one I have to work a little harder at.
MORE RECENTLY (Last 6-8 years): UD Vice Lipstick in Sheer Rapture, Wet n Wild x Fergie Centerstage Lipstick in Bebot Love, and Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick in Cougar.
OF ALL TIME (TIE):
1) In the early 1990’s, there was drug store lipstick (one of the major brands, but can’t remember which) that had bright purple and bright orange shimmers swirled together, that mixed into a slightly different shade of gorgeous fuchsia every time I wore it. It was LE, I bought three tubes, and used them all up including scraping out the last of them from the tubes.
2) A Wet n Wild MegaSlicks Lip Gloss shade that was all the rage in the early 2000s. It was my go-to for a few years, and I went through 4-5 tubes of it. I don’t remember the number, but I think it got turned into what is now the Rose Gold shade. If not, it was very similar. Cheap yet fantastic, it went with everything and was a perfect way for a broke young mom to be on a trend at the time.
RUNNERS-UP: Max Factor Creme Rouge 537 (a gorgeous red cream) topped with Mary Kay’s gold shimmer transformer lipstick, and Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds in Pretty Knit (a shimmery MLBB). I wore them all down to nubs.
LEAST USED: Lip stains. I gave a few different brands a go, but I absolutely hated how dry they all made my lips feel. I’m think I got rid of them all in a declutter a couple years ago. I also don’t use chubby lip crayons often enough. I rarely buy them. Most of mine came as part of sets or as gifts. I like them fine, but I just don’t seem to reach for them. However, I love the slimmer e.l.f. Matte Lip Colors crayons. Go figure.
Five Most Used: MAC Riri Woo, MAC Impulsive, Lancôme Matte Shaker Beige Vintage, Lancôme Matter Shaker Completely Nut!, NYX Matte Lipstick Natural
Five Least Used: ABH Beaming Liquid Lipstick, MAC Heroine, ColourPop Obviously, ColourPop Tulle, Rimmel Airy Fairy
Lancome Rouge Absolu #238 Luxe , Mac Mocha, Mac Freckletone(almost gone).
Least was an UD cream lipstick which emphasized every imperfection of my lips so in the garbage it went!
It’s probably a tie between Pat McGrath Modern Woman and Bite Cava (and all its iterations in my collection. These griegey colours really work on me, particularly when then are not too too cool like these.
Least used… anything Red. I love red on other people, but rarely wear it myself. I think my colouring lends itself more to muted shades. I can wear brights, but they do overtake my whole look and sometimes that is the point, but bright red is double no no.
Most used: MAC Craving Least used: MAC Twig – I bought it when all my friends were buying it and raving about it but it was not a good colour for me at all.
Chanel Coco Shine in Monte Carlo. It’s a pink reddish colour, I’m pale with auburn hair and it suits me so well. First lipstick I every bought from Chanel, now I have at least 5. I bought a backup because they discontinued it, but I’ll just buy the closest colour in the Coco shine formula once the backup is done. I’m not a fan of matte or heavier lipstick on myself. I like that balmy sheerish look, I’m a gloss girl too!
My most-used lip colors of all time are shades I used for many, many years, but were discontinued: Revlon Fleshtone (1990s) and Laura Mercier Discretion (2000s). In the 1990s, I wore something with the word “raisin” in it in the evenings, but I can’t remember what it was.
These days, my most-used daytime lip colors are Clinique Dramatically Different Lipstick in Canoodle; Estée Lauder Knockout Nude; Chanel Mademoiselle; Chanel Rouge Angelique; and MAC Laissez Faire, Modesty, Faux, and Spirit. My most-used evening lip colors are Chanel Pirate and Laura Mercier Boudoir (sadly discontinued).
I have lots of “never-use” lip colors, including my entire collection of KVD lip products (I just can’t).
On the other hand, if I name my least-used lip colors that I still love, that would be easy: Guerlain Rouge G #21 and MAC Flat Out Fabulous, All Fired Up, and Lady Danger. Too many lipsticks, not enough nights out.
Unfortunately, it seems like it will be a long time until I’ll be wearing any of these outside the house again.
Most worn: Possibly Bite Beauty Glace, it’s my go-to when I just want a nice neutral lip and I’m doing my makeup quickly.
Least worn: I’m sure I have a few floating around that I haven’t even tried yet. Like a friend gave me a tube of the Sephora #lipstories one with the money packaging, and I haven’t worn it yet because excuses to wear green lipstick are few and far between, and I have a lot of other greens, lol.
MAC Diva, since my 20s it’s a color I almost always had in my collection. With other colors I tend to switch to another shade each time, only MAC Velvet Teddy I repurchased twice.
The most unused lipstick in my collection now is Patrick Woo, but I have a very small lipstick collection so even so it gets regular use.
But generally you won’t see pinks and very bright or light lip colors in my collection.
MAC Marque Ultimate Lipstick, Cosmo, and Royally Riotous have all seen half a tube used up. VG l and Retro see a lot of usage, too.
But for summer, I dig into UD Catfight and Tryst very heavily..,at least in previous years.
Oh, and “Least Used”: CP Getty, Bite Kale and KVD K-Dub. Getty and Kale look good on me, but not for the ultra conservative area I live in! K-Dub looks hideous on me. So does MAC Pink Pigeon.
Most used would be Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Red, Rouge Bunny Rouge Perfume of His Gaze paired with MAC Nightmoth lip pencil and Lipstick Queen’s Private Party.
Least used: Who knows. I have well over 200 lipsticks so there are probably a lot in that category.
Most used would be Mac Crème Cup and Mac All Fired Up. I like nude or red, not much of an in-between for me.
Least used would be my Kat Von D lipsticks. They drag and feel drying.
All Fired Up is super underrated! Manon from British Bake-off wore it too. 🙂
My most used (almost my go to colour) colour is MAC Mehr/Soar lip pencil topped with Mac Dangerous(lightly dabbed). It creates a lovely pinkish-orange.
Tie between MAC Ruby Woo and NARS Dragon Girl, but DG is set to be the champ because I prefer it these days. I’ve used up just short of two of each.
Most used, Charlotte Tilbury, “Bond Girl” with CT’s “Pillow Talk” in second place.
Of all time? Mac syrup. Love the formula, love Mac lipsticks in general. It’s been around forever and I’ve gone through countless tubes. I’ve also gone through several tubes of lipstick queen medieval and saint pink, but not nearly as many simply due to how long Mac been around. One I never go through, but always repurchase is Mac rebel. Least used? Anything drug store. I always hope to find a formula I love at the drug store, but so far it hasn’t happened. I like sheer and somewhat buildable, without chemical spf. Not an easy find at the drugstore. I’m not anti spf, I just despise the taste of chemical spf. If it were more of a physical barrier spf, I’d be good with that because there’s no funky taste/smell. I just can’t get past that that chemical smell/taste in a lot of drug store sheer balm like stuff.
Just realized my “all time” most worn colors are almost entirely drug store! Still wear and repurchase all of these:
Everyday: Milani Naturally Chic
Pink/rose: Maybelline Hooked on Pink
Reds: Rimmel 111 and Rimmel 01
Least worn:
Charlotte Tilbury Walk of Shame (most colors I have from her end up not “working” on me somehow)
Almay Lip Vibes in Live Happy
Huda liquid mattes from those lip kits from a couple years ago
My most used lip shade would have to be a cinnamon spice shade – I have purchased so many brand’s version of this colour it’s not funny. Milani’s Cinnamon Spice, Bronze Beauty – I have gone through many of those. I am down to my last bit of Clarin’s Spicy Cinnamon too (even the backups).
Next favourite would be the orangey red shades like CP’s Foolish. It works well with just about everything I wear and always complements my eye look too.
Least favourite, these days, is dark berry shades like Nori from Bite Beauty. I just can’t wear such dark lipsticks anymore.
It’s a tie between MAC Creme in Your Coffee, Craving and See Sheer – I’m on my 4th tube of each over the past 10 years.
Least used is greigey purples. Love the look of them and buy them only to give them away.
Yay!!! Another fan of Craving. If MAC ever d/c’s it, I will have a serious problem!
I used MAC’s Crème d’Nude a lot back in the day, but in the past couple years I’ve probably worn Urban Decay’s Ex-Girlfriend way more! (And it is definitely way more flattering.)
My top 3:
Lancôme – Rose Amnesia (discontinued)
Bare Minerals – Gen Nude Lipstick – XOX
MAC – Syrup
Least used… Probably MAC Crème d’Nude – Way too light…
Most – Rimmel Boho Nude. I finished one, scraping out the sad remains of a second, and have a third in my purse. Second is Soap n’ Glory’s Cinnamon Beige which is almost empty.
Least….hmmm…I went through a phase of collecting lipsticks from indie companies (anyone remember Morgana Cryptoria?) many, *many* years ago and probably swatched some and never used them. In my current collection I recently culled all lipsticks that were unworn or wouldn’t be worn again. BUT I kept an old Sephora Reward of Bite Beauty shimmer lipsticks. They’re not great colors, but it was a lot of points so I kept them anyway.
Pat Mcgrath Lust Angeles. I have 2 tubes in use that are nearly finished, and I bought 7 back-ups last winter when they were on sale at PML!
Also:
Colourpop: 951 and Pinkies Up
Lipstick Queen Sinner Red or Wine
Tom Ford Casablanca
It looks great on me and lasts long.
I keep tubes in my bag and a few spots in my house.
Christine, you do not know how hard I’ve tried to find Estee Lauder Naked Truth in Canada!
Every time I see you in it I try again–it’s such a “me” colour.
Most worn is one I don’t wear any more: ColourPop Midi Matte Liquid Lip as I rarely wear these liquid lippies any more.
These days it would be a tie between: Becca’s Ultimate Lipstick Love Sugar & CT’s Hot Lips 2 Dance Floor Princess.
Least: Lime Crime Unicorn Diamond Crushers, I have two or three and have worn each 1-2x. Love the idea and they stay on! But I always felt like people would think ‘Here come DVa’s lips!”, rather than see the rest of me, LOL.
So funny you asked now as I was just looking at one of my old fav lipsticks that I used to use A LOT and thought to myself, I need to replace it before it’s discontinued. Guerlain Kiss Kiss in “Beige Mousseline (340)” and ARGH!!!! I just checked and it’s too late! Oh well! I’ll have to search the dupes database. ;). didn’t realize that it came out in 2011.
My most used are:
MAC Hug Me
MAC Velvet Teddy
MAC Flat Out Fabulous
MAC Faux
MAC Pink Pigeon
And a recent add to the collection that’s already a favorite YSL Tatouage Couture Matte in Nu Interdit.
