- Haul/Rediscoveries: I bought a couple of BB creams for my mom to try, and then a hand cream for my sister and mom to use along with a Tatcha Oil Cleanser for my sister. The five Tom Ford mini Metallic Lipsticks, Anastasia Mini Gloss Set. I keep wondering the industry will run out of lip products to create but clearly not ?
- Weekend plans: It’s supposed to be quite hot for the next week, so we’ll time our outdoor time for earlier/later in the day but keep cool inside.
- What was the first concert you went to?: I’m pretty sure it was a Dido concert!

Haul: My two year old (my husband, really, lol) got me the Charlotte Tilbury Quad in Mesmerising Maroon for Mother’s Day… we figured since shipping times are taking longer right now, and since Sephora is probably extra busy with their sale, if we ordered it now, it might be in my hands by Mother’s Day.
Rediscoveries: Pixi Multibalm in Sheer Strawberry… the post on the Fenty Beauty cream blush in Strawberry Drip inspired me to break that product out again. It makes for a beautiful juicy cheek.
Weekend plans: Oh, you know, same old, same old. Going to go to Ace Hardware and get a wheelbarrow so I can do some real yard work. But that’s about it.
What was the first concert you went to? LOL. I was in 6th grade and the Supertones came to my church for a concert. I was so excited because I got to work their merch booth and they gave me a free t-shirt. I wore that shirt for years. ?
Haul:
*Medusa’s Makeup (sale) — Sweet Cheeks Blush in Peachy Keen, Frosted Blush in Beach Bum, Luminous Highlighter in Highlighter Hotel, and Heart Mirror Compact.
*Everyday Minerals (sale) — Pangea Organics Body Wash in Italian White Sage, Geranium, and Yarrow; Semi-Matte Base in 0N Fair; and Shimmer Blush in Wonderful.
*Target — Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick in Glassy Ruby, Love is On, and Glazed Mauve. Makeup Revolution Makeup Obsession London’s Calling and Intoxicated with Love eyeshadow palettes.
*Amazon– L.A. Girl Just Blushing Face Blush in Just Because… (to use as contour), L.A. Girl Shockwave Neon Lip Liner in Pop, and L.A. Girl Shockwave Neon Eye Liner in Screamin’.
Weekend plans: Continue to declutter and reorganize makeup. Laundry. Hopefully, go on a country drive with hubby. Maybe finally dye my hair. My roots are getting really long, and my color is pretty faded.
What was the first concert you went to?: My mom’s much younger boyfriend took me and my brother to the Oregon Jam in 1983: Greg Kihn Band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Loverboy, Night Ranger, Quiet Riot, Triumph, and Foreignor. I think that was all of the bands. It was the only concert my mom ever allowed me to go to. It pissed me off that Mom’s BF had his roadie friend get Joan Jett’s autograph for my brother, but not me. Of course my brother lost it within a week or so. I should have stolen it from him. lol
I love that L.A. Girl blush as a contour! I had to jump through a few hoops to finally get my hands on it (a couple of sellers I found realized they didn’t actually have it in stock), but definitely so worth it! It was in heavy rotation all last Summer, and I still haven’t worn off the embossing; a little does go a long way. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly cream product, the Jordana Sculpt N’ Go in 01 Light is worth a look!
Courtney at the Phyrra Nyx blog had it in a recent video on best contour products for pale skin. I was so glad Amazon had it, as the LA Girl site was closed for COVID-19. I’ll keep the Jordana one in mind if my cheeks go through another dry phase. Hormones are so fun (not). This last month or so they’ve gone back to being oily. Thanks for the rec!
Haul: I wanted to get another tube of Embryolisse but the SDM I went to was sold out. I did get a bottle of Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Foaming Cleanser. It was on sale and the pink colour looked so nice and I’ve liked pretty much everything I’ve ever had from Bioderma.
Weekend plans: a bit of gardening and my trainer wants to do a “face time” training session with me so we’re doing that at 10 am on Saturday. Wonder how it will go.
First concert I ever went to: The Beatles at Maple Leaf Gardens with my best friend at the time, Ruthie Z.
The Beatles! What a great memory! Lucky you!
OMG Mariella – THE BEATLES!…..I was so in love with Paul (he is left handed like me)….
For me, it started out with Ringo but my love quickly shifted to John (call me fickle). I’d only been married a short time and my husband woke me very gently one morning to tell me that he had been killed. It was so hard to believe.
The Beatles at the famed MLG!! Definitely a mic drop for that experience, Mariella!! Wow!
Haul/Rediscoveries: I ordered two of the Fenty blushes, one of the bronzers, a Pat McGrath lipgloss set (sunset seduction) and some lip/eye liners from Milani. A couple of cute loungewear items since it seems like we will be in a little bit longer.
Weekend plans: To make the best of it all, I have some virtual social gatherings planned…
What was the first concert you went to?: John Legend! It was amazing!
Haul: Pat McGrath Mothership VII Divine Rose, Ellis Brooklyn Sweet, Salt rollerballs.
Weekend: Staying home, cleaning, organizing.
First Concert: Eagles, Hotel California Tour, Fall/Winter 1976.
I freeeaked out this AM, because i ran out of Cosrx AHA/BHA toner. Thought I had a b/u, but nooooo. So i ordered two from Ulta and threw in the new U CP purple palette. Should be treating myself by shopping my stash, but it isn’t PML. My scheduled life is virtually no different under Covid. 2 nights of work. My passenger and erstwhile friend has been flitting about the store, high, I assume, mask-free, and totally fracturing social distancing. As of now, She is relegated to the back seat, with a mask, and no smoking. My car, my rules. She has one more strike, since she’s acting like a 13 year old stoner. I already deep sixed her ride for 2 weeks. Next strike, she’s out, and it’s highly likely that I’ll quit night job. Many people have said that Covid will either bring people closer together, or split them up totally. She’ll miss me more than the other way around, as i pay for much of her heating oil, all her vet appointments, etc. I am disgusted and have never been so angry in my entire life. Night job is not worth a risk to my life. Rant over. Annnyway, concerts? Tanglewood with GC Leonard Bernstein in the late 50s. The Stones in 64 or 65. And yes, I saw Jimi smash his guitar, light it on fire, and pee on it to douse it. (~68?) Not only did i see Dylan before he was Dylan/recorded (~61-62,) I was there in Newport the night he went electric. (65, iirc.) Not well received. I’m too old to understand or relate to contemporary music, including classical, but i like hip hop. I’m a relic in more than m/u.
those are some amazing concert moments! I’m jealous. Every concert I think I’ve ever been to was pretty run of the mill, although good.
The thing that’s amazing is the freedom we were allowed to have, that far BITD, in that far more innocent time. Who knew Baez and Dylan would become household names? And what parent of a 15-16 year old would let their daughter go to the Newport Jazz and N Folk festivals? Overnight, with a boyfriend? Now HS kids can’t stand alone at a school bus stop. I was fortunate to grow up pre-fear.
I was thinking about the BITD freedom part the other day. I rode around on my bike with 5 boys and was never at home unless the street lights were on. I was also wondering when it might be possible to go to a concert again.
Your musical memories are Intoxicating.. that’s enough of a high for me.
Your friend isn’t being much of a friend, especially considering all the generosity you’ve shown her. No one would blame you for being fed up. You’re a saint for giving her so many chances.
I’m jealous of your concert memories. Freaking amazing stuff!
Mellan looks like a good quarantine buddy 🙂 Our Daisy is keeping our spirits up, too.
Haul: On Monday my package arrived from FX Warehouse. I ordered some things for a skull makeup class that we took on Weds, and some things for a performance that I likely will not be doing in June after all (unless the host decides to move it online). And also, Sephora put the Melt Impulsive palette on sale for 50% off, which stacked with the Rouge 20% off bonus, so I decided to finally get it.
Weekend plans: Another exciting weekend of staying home. I have my now-regular Sat and Sun online classes. Tomorrow I’m also supposed to start taking part in a regularly recurring online happy hour with the Seattle Cocktail Club, but they were supposed to drop off some supplies and I haven’t received them or any other details about how this is going to happen, so… we’ll see? Might do some yardwork on Sunday. Current forecast says 100% chance of rain tomorrow.
First concert: Some Christian country band. I want to say they were called Brush Arbor? I don’t remember much about the experience. I was a kid, maybe 8? So I was tagging along with my parents. My musical tastes have changed quite a bit since then 😉
Greetings to your Corgi, and Mellan, as well. All the dog shows are moved back or cancelled. Virtual hugs to all fur children. I wanted that Melt and Safari, but managed not to haul. Barely.
Daisy gladly accepts your virtual hugs 🙂 She LOVES having us home all the time. I mean, we already worked from home but I had a Tues evening class and we’d go out a lot on weekends. Now it’s corgi time all day every day. Last night we were sitting on the couch together with Daisy between us, and I was rubbing her neck with both hands and she was grinning so big. And since we’re not going anywhere it doesn’t matter that all our clothes are COVERED in orange and white hairs from her spring shed 😉
When I was in grad school, I was offered a border collie pup, offspring of my landlord’s farm dog and a performance dog from Texas Aggie. My mum said, ‘Don’t you know you ought not get a dog that’s smarter than you are?’ After I became smitten with both Corgis, My mum said ‘Remember what I said about border collies?’ She’s right, they both are smarter than I am. Corgis are more biddable and less laser focused than BCs. You might want to google the Swedish Vallhund, since we (huh?) have downtime. I knew the woman who introduced them to the US, but she unfortunately had stroked out. Neat Corgi-esque breed.
My Pembroke went from massive poof winter coat to horribly flea bitten looking in a matter of days. So fast, I was actually concerned until I brushed him and noted he was full on shedding. My pembroke/cardigan is a merle fluffer and his coat is oddly not shedding whatsoever, although his is longer, beach wave curly, and softer. He looks like a mini Aussie rather than a corgi.
Hiya Mellan ?
Haul/Rediscoveries: I picked up a few things with Big S sale: Tom Ford Vergain lipstick, NARS Raw Love lipstick (maybe I can wear these in the next decade ?), Milk Makeup Kush Fibre, UD Lip Pencil in 1993, Tatcha gold spun lip balm. Hardly the aggressive buys I’m usually guilty of. I also picked up the All Things Equinox ColourPop palette from Ulta in addition to two Nabla Skin Glazing shades I’ve had on my wishlist forever.
Now for the interesting beauty purchase I made: I bought a wig. I’m waiting for it to arrive. My own hair looks really really sh*tty.. In retrospect, one should maybe not go blonde just prior to a global pandemic. Anyhow, I picked up a wig and I’m planning on wearing it and I’m going to get over any weirdness I might feel wearing it.
Weekend plans: We’ve had snow this week. A late one. Not happy. The weather is supposed to rebound somewhat so I will be spending as much time as possible outside. It seems to be the only place where I find peace these days, that or in front of my piano. Last night I was working on ‘I Want to Break Free’ and I was singing it at the top of my lungs. My dogs were secretly laughing at me. Wait ‘til they see the wig ? ?
What was the first concert you went to?: My mother used to take me to smaller local fares when I was quite young so it would be Roy Orbison if I am not mistaken. It was fantastic!
Have a good weekend everyone!
Your Corgis will be singing Roy Orbison, when they see the wig. Running Scared!
I die laughing
I hope the wig works out for you. Roy Orbison — one of the most beautiful male singing voices ever, IMHO.
I love Roy Orbison – such a unique voice and, apparently, a thoroughly nice person too.
I have a couple of his albums and I am sure his concerts were really enjoyable.
Best of luck with the wig – I hope your doggies recognise you and not growl at you – thinking that you are some kind of strange/familiar person.
Yep, those I say “I want something Mama”! So cute!
Haul: I was able to order two items from the MAC x Selena La Reina collection. La Leyenda EDSF and Inolvadible lipstick. If I manage to get my stimulus payment before the other two items I want sell out then I’m also going to get Hey Dad Pizza! Lipglass and Siempre Selena Retro Matte Lipstick.
Weekend plans: Same ol’, same ol’ as everyday. The days are just running together and sometimes I don’t know what day of the week it is anymore! However, I do understand the importance of staying home and reducing risk of exposure to covid-19. And so I comply. But I am bored out of my gourd!
First concert? When I was 13 my cousin’s girlfriend brought me to a Three Dog Night concert in Long Beach California, I think. Or at least it was near Long Beach. I don’t remember anymore, just that it was a long ride. What I do know is that I had a great time!
You know Selena is at Ulta, as well as MAC, right? I think it’s less likely to sell out at U. MAC site, everything is gone in a flash.
Haul/Rediscoveries: Another week of nothing new.
Weekend plans: Groceries, cooking, house chores, long walks 5 miles within my residency…
What was the first concert you went to?: I’m pretty sure it was a concert organised by the city in my hometown, something with various cvasi-unknown local and national bands/performers. Something small and unimpressive, but when you grow up in a small town you take what you get.
Rediscoveries: been wearing my Tarte BB cream as it’s a year old and I want to use it up. Plus it gives added SPF protection. Sun is out for ONCE.
Weekend plans: playing an online RPG with some friends! And maybe trying out a mini pavlova recipe.
First concert: N’Sync, I think, when I was a kid. My mom took me lol.
That was my first concert too. My mom escorted me and my friend, the huge fan, and she spent the concert screaming at her favorite, Lance Bass. A very 1990s experience 😉
Haul: I have purchased a few things from the Sephora sale but won’t receive any of it until into May sometime. Projected date is May 5th. I purchased mostly skin care but I will wait and talk about them after I have had them and used them for awhile. The only things I picked up makeup wise were the Huda Obsessions palette in Rose, Pat McGrath Eye-Dols in Rose Venus, Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in 0.5 N in Ultralight, Estee Lauder Futurist Foundation in the lightest shade, (can’t remember the name) and Buxom Waterproof Mascara.
Weekend plans: Not much. Still staying home although my daughter and granddaughter (cat Sophie) left for Kalispell today. Her orthodontist’s office is starting to phase in re-opening. They are doing it very gradually and following the NDA guidelines. They won’t be back to full capacity until in July. They are going to alternate staff in the office with some working M-W-F, some working T-Th-Sat and some working from home. They are going to do some work virtually and it is possible my daughter will work from home since she does all the insurance authorization and billing. They are only going to have one patient at a time in the office. They are going to have staff makeup hours with unemployment so that they get full pay. Monday they are all having a virtual meeting to discuss concerns and make plans for going forward. I am thankful that they are taking a much safer approach. At this point Montana only has a few hundred cases and with 12 deaths but I am sure there are more and likely more deaths also since no testing is being done. Now that they know that infection is likely to occur quite a long time before symptoms begin, I am sure that some deaths that were attributed to other causes are likely related to COVID. I live pretty close to the Idaho border and they have a higher incidence of infection and deaths so I doubt we are actually that much different from them. I am in a really rural area but you never know who is infected. I have only been out of the house twice since this started and both times I wore masks and gloves to go grocery shopping.
First concert: Oh my gosh, I can’t remember for sure but most likely
Bob Seger way back when he first started touring. I have seen so many in concert as it is something I really enjoy and music has been a big part of my life. Back in the day, I use to sing with a group called “Up With People” and we toured and performed at school’s, clubs, fairs, etc. It was a very wholesome group of young people. I did that through high school and had to stop to go to nursing school. I also grew up on the beach in S. Cal and music was a big part of that culture. Wolfman Jack etc. It was a great time for music and really shaped my love for music today.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I did shop the Sephora sale but I feel they aren’t a haul until they are in my hands haha!
Weekend plans: Nothing. All the days are blurring together and sometimes I like it and sometimes I hate it.
What was the first concert you went to?: I believe it was Modest Mouse!
Haul: Sephora 20% ABH Norvina 3 palette and now I have all 3 Pro palettes. I brought 3 Fenty cream blushes and Farmacy makeup remover. Macys- MAC Selena highlighter and Bidi Bidi lip gloss. I keep searching out new perfumes even though I have enough. I think it’s anxiety about our current situation.
Weekend Plans: Just chilling around the house. Cleaning in my room. Watching TV and reading.
What was the first concert you went to?: The Jackson 5 ! The show was so good and magical for me at the time. And the next live concert I saw was the “Godfather of Soul” Mr. James Brown! He put put on a funky energetic show that had everybody dancing!!
What amazing concerts to see live!
Haul: I ordered from Sephora prior to the sale, and picked up 4 Dior highlighters & the Backstage highlighter & contour quads, KVD brow products & Shade + Light duo, Bobbi Brown Face Base (I’ve wanted to try it for ages, but always OOS when I think about buying), Dermologica Daily Microbrasion Powder (I absolutely love this stuff, and have been rationing what I have left, which is still plenty, given the current events…), and some random array of The Ordinary products. I ended up Rouge…
From ULTA, which took a week to process, so I don’t have it yet, I bought both Lime Crime Prelude palettes, The Body Shop Drops of Youth (another I’ve been using sparingly…), and another assortment of The Ordinary products.
I bought some hand sanitizer from Milani, and threw in a couple of the new baked highlighters, and grabbed 2 Physicians Formula Talc-Free powders with a BOGO deal. There may have been more, but I honestly can’t remember…
Plans: Pick up a few grocery items. Laundry. Hopefully get around to purging my closet & decluttering a bit of makeup (I simply can’t find the motivation, although I finally have the time…).
First Concert: Marc Almond at the Pantages in April 1989. It was also the first time I did a winged-liner outside of my bedroom, and I still have the lipstick I wore that night, Revlon Scarlet Fantasy… I last saw him live last October, and he still puts on an incredible show.
Dior highlighters are very nice. I think at one point I had a number of Becca h/l’s and I picked up Dior Pink glow, and never bought another Becca afterwards. Eventually, I donated all the Becca to a dorm room of girls (friend’s daughter)
Haul/Rediscoveries: I’m waiting on my Sephora orders to arrive, a little slower than usual with covid but also I’m okay with being patient. It’s hard on everyone. I ordered the rms beauty Living Luminizer Glow Quad, Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer stick in “Baked”, Jouer Highlighter in “Citrine” to replace the one I shattered, and Youth to the People Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser.
Weekend plans: None! Just chilling with my family, happy to be safe and healthy and together.
What was the first concert you went to?: September 1985 Bruce Springsteen Born in the USA tour.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I took advantage of the Sephora Spring Savings Event and placed 3 orders, the third of which just shot me up to VIB! (insert Snoopy dance here)
Order 1, yesterday: Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Secret Salma and Liv It Up lipsticks, Marc Jacobs Enamored Rebel Rebel gloss, and a backup Sephora Green ON! mascara-I need a backup because it’s one of the few green mascaras that isn’t hellish to remove.
Order 2, also yesterday: NARS Thrill blush-one of the last of that shade that they had on hand, I checked the site later that night and it was sold out!-and backups of my Fenty Pro Filt’r 110 concealer and Soft Matte foundation.
Order 3, just now: Melt Millennial Pinx palette and Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Electric Poppy lipstick.
Weekend plans: Beat the heat with Ion’s various daily marathons-NCIS: LA tonight, SVU tomorrow, Sunday a mixed marathon of NCIS: LA/Chicago PD.
What was the first concert you went to?: Josh Groban-my parents and I drove to Louisville.
Update: I just made a 4th order-a backup of Marc Jacobs Ch-ch-Changes gloss, with the spring sale code and the COVID-induced free shipping code stacked. The Josh Groban concert was enjoyable for my teen self and my parents alike.
You are the handsomest, Mellan.
Haul:
MAC x Selena Inolvidable, La Reina and Queen of Cumbia lipsticks and La Leyenda highlighter
Sephora, 20% off
Marc Jacobs See-quins eyeshadows in Glamethyst and Copperazzi
Anastasia Eye Primer
Tom Ford eau de Soleil Blanc
Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask
Tatcha Water Cream & Deep Cleanser duo (points reward)
Farmacy Green Clean makeup remover (points reward)
Jack Black Lip Balm – Grapefruit
Deva Curl Wavemaker
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Regular and Glow, Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01 and Bronze 02, Caviar Sticks in Intense Amethyst, Burnished Bronze and Metallic Taupe
Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Bronzer Shady Biz
Weekend plans: Morning walks, playing with makeup, making a few pots of soup/chili and a Zoom meeting with friends on Saturday. Sunday is at home facial and mani.
First concert I went to?: Erasure back in the 80s.
Just what I needed, Mellan to cheer me up today!
Haul/Rediscoveries: I opened my Visa Bill today and the balance was 0, how’s that for a no buy! No reason to celebrate though the American Express and Master Card will come next week! I did put an order in to Sephora for Tom Ford Bad Ass Mascara and my Dermaflash Replenishment Kit.
Weekend plans: Our snow finally melted so we will be doing yard work this weekend.
What was the first concert you went to?: I remember it very clearly it was Kiss, I was 13, first big concert in a big city. Otherwise I used to live in a small town in Ontario close to Toronto and we would get all the up and coming bands play at our school dances, that was an experience that every kid should have. I’m sure that is why I love music so much, my husband and I still go to concerts. I hope the Alicia Keys concert in August won’t be cancelled.
How sweet Mellon is by cosying up to the camera? What a beautiful boy.
Haul: Nothing beauty related at all this week. Target Aus. is open and I happened to get some lovely light weight jumpers in Maroon, Bronze Brown and Khaki with black spots. It’s been a long time since my favourite autumn shades were available in clothes that I like. The best bit was that I had to take the Khaki jumper back (the dressing rooms weren’t open) because it was too big, I needed a much smaller size.
Weekend Plans:
Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all pretty much the same: extra cleaning of bathrooms, laundry, a food shop, going for a walk around our local reserve, preparing some meals for the family and reading my books.
Saturday is Anzac Day here (where we commemorate our fallen soldiers from past and recent conflicts). As our Anzac Day march has had to be cancelled, we were asked to get up at 6 am and hold a candle on a driveways to mark the dawn service. It was lovely to see how many families in our street did so.
Sunday – I will probably do some cooking for the week and for my son and daughter in law. The school lockdown is starting to wear a bit thin in many households now. All the kids are missing their friends and doing it on zoom isn’t quite the same.
We are reading about how still incredibly awful the virus is in many parts of the States, so I hope everyone here is still well.
First Concert – Probably The Bee Gees in Year 11.
Who didn’t have the hots for Barry Gibb? ?
Haul/Rediscoveries: I actually did a big Ordinary haul. I got a 9+ month supply of niacinamide, Matryxl, and their retinoid. I tried to go without, but couldn’t stand the acne. I also bought MUFE Full Cover concealer, my only true must-have base product, and Stila Micro Tip eyeliner from the Beauty Insider sale. I don’t feel great about it, but I was relieved to see Sephora is at least taking their time processing and shipping orders right now.
Weekend plans: Write scholarship applications, exercise, play Mario Kart.
What was the first concert you went to?: Backstreet Boys. I feel like they emerged from this box and flew over the audience on surf boards??
Haul: Selfridges: Suqqu Pre-Summer collection – Designing Color Eyes 131 quad and Pure Color Blush 116. My small Sephora order placed in hour 1 of the sale arrives on Monday. Buying groceries for us and an elderly friend was really my haul. Am trying to stretch grocery shopping to every 10-14 days.
Weekend Plans: Taxes, finding Spring clothing, and enjoying walks outside as temps move into the 60s. I’d like to linger in Spring weather for a few months.
First concert: Most likely Corey Hart at the beginning of his career (1985-ish); Glass Tiger and Bryan Adams were around that same time. Ironically, the last concert I saw before the pandemic was Corey Hart with Glass Tiger last June back home with my twin sister and our best friend, who back then lived five doors down. A fantastic night!
