What fragrances do you tend to wear more often in fall?

I wear most fragrances year-round, especially since I’m at home and don’t leave the house much (even pre-pandemic, LOL). I definitely reach for Maison Margiela By the Fireplace more, though.

Clinique Aromatics Elixir is strictly a fall/cold weather scent for me and the same goes for Guerlain Shalimar (which I only got because I found it for a good price and I really love the bottle; sadly, Guerlain fragrances in general aren’t great on me). Maison Margiela/Replica’s By the Fireplace is also pretty much a cold weather fragrance for me (the name alone should be a tip off), though I do tend to wear it year ’round, but more in the cool/cold weather. When I used to wear YSL’s Opium (the original), it was also a cool weather or evening scent for me.

I was surprised a few weeks ago when my daughter mentioned that she found a new fragrance she loves (but it’s not in her budget just now) and it turned out to be By the Fireplace! So I’ll be getting it for her for Xmas, if she hasn’t bought it for herself by then. I hope you like it too, Genevieve. It seems several others here also love it for the cooler weather.

Guerlain fragrances have something in them that is so strong that I cannot tolerate them on myself. I like the smell of them sprayed on the sample cards or on other people but they all seem to have a similar note that comes out when I spray it on that overpowers everything else and turns me right off.

YSL Black Opium, Viktor & Rolf Bon Bon, Maison Margiela Jazz Club or By The Fireplace. I like warm, spicy scents that have some punch and feel more cozy. I find a lot of scents don’t cut through the cold Minnesota air so I try to use ones with weighty base notes.

Hey, this is Arizona, so it doesn’t even feel like fall until the end of November, LOL! When it does begin to get a little crisper and cooler outside, I start wearing Tom Ford Black Orchid, YSL Black Opium (the one in the silvery sparkle bottle version) or Avon x Christian LaCroix Absynthe. These are my cool weather fragrances through March.

While I’ve left lengthy replies on perfume in the past, having to wear a mask 6+ hours during the day currently and in the foreseeable future, there doesn’t seem to be a point to wearing perfume when I can’t smell what I’m wearing and no one else can either due to strict social distancing at work. I tried a few times wearing my old favorites, but could not smell them on me without going massively overboard. Sadly this fall unless things change, old favorites will be shelved.

I own so many Fall and Halloweeny scents from BPAL and CocoaPink, so the moment September hits I’m all about all of them and then just keep going into Christmastime. I wear Opium Black and S by Shakira (i think it’s called?) year round too.

In the Fall I get out the animalics, vanillas, and woodsy scents.
Maison Margiela REPLICA Whispers in the Library – The warmest, pepper, tonka bean, and cedarwood scent that will make you want to cuddle up with a good read.
Tom Ford MÉTALLIQUE – vanilla and sandalwood
Santal Blanc by Van Cleef & Arpels – creamy sandalwood with fig and violet
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay- tart blackberries & fresh bay leaves, reminds me of the California coast
Byredo Gypsy Water – bergamot, juniper berries, lemon, pepper, incense, orris, pine needle, amber, sandalwood, and vanilla

I put away my citrus and coconut based scents for fall. The smell of citrus actually sends a chill down my spine–brrr! I don’t need that feeling on a cool, crisp day. As fall approaches, I reach for my spicy, cozy scents. The ones that are balsamic and woody envelope me like a wool peacoat. That definitely includes By the Fireplace by Margiela. A classic fall/winter perfume!

My all time favourite autumn/winter perfume is Affection from Mary Kay. Sadly discontinued, so am eking out my last bottle. Will have to try some of the ones mentioned!
